Off topic, but do you know much about the bubble magus curve 5? It's constantly overflowing since i added UV. Ive tried lifting it up at various heights and it continues to bubble up fast and water literally builds up in the cup. Ive taken the hose drain stop off to let it drain back into the sump and left it for a while to see if it would right itself. It hasn't so I switched ito off for 2 days. Just tried it again today and irs no different. Its switched back off now.

Hi @Reef Dork, Perhaps you could get hold of some of the black silicone strips that are used to hold the tanks together, and either stick the mesh to it, or sandwich it between the strip and the bar? Cheers, Rich.

I believe those middle bars are a cross brace type support for the mesh if you had a wider/longer section. Could you use something like the front of a wide cable trunking strip to clip over the middle two bars, hiding them, the cable ties and covering the gap?

You know you will end up with the Uber expensive policarbonate ones so just do it!

That cover is the right choice, those polycarbonate ones don't look good and would look out of place on that tank. Router out a groove in the cross brace so you can use the same mesh cord.

3d print the middle bars with the slit for the mesh rubber stringy thing. I think you can also find the corner bits of all sorts as 3d print.

Don't cheap out on such a beautiful tank. Get's yourself a polycarbonate lid. I know you'll be much happier with the look and finish of a nice lid. With your following, I'm sure you can swing a discount to showcase someones lid.

Don't those create a lot of condensation on the underside? Asking because I wouldn't mind one but thought that was their trade off.
@Reefkpr1
@Reefkpr1 3 ай бұрын
@@deansmith2124 Condensation is not a problem. The frame is made out of polycarbonate but still has a screen mesh in the center. If you went with full polycarbonate covers then I could see how condensation would be a problem.

Put a small weight holding piece down. Then run a heat gun carefully along then area of tight mesh this should settle things and save loads of time.

I made a mess of mine cutting it to fit around my overflow box. Waterbox give you a nicr glass cover for the top. But i wish id just went over it. Although then it is ouodnt sit flush at the back. I hated putting it together. How did you cut the metal? Im struggling with it right now. I havw an AI blade rhat sits on the tank rests, which sits on the glass. So the light is only whout 2-3 inches above the water. So it means lifitng the light up everytime i need to take the lid off or move it back etc.

Yeah, the little cut out sections are a nightmare - glad I could avoid that! I used a mitre saw to cut everything - I can never get a straight cut with a hand saw...

Yeah I used my mitre saw. But I was impatient and just used the wood blade 😅

On top.of if acrylic frame net looks ugly . This is my personal opinion. Too much plastic on it. I prefer the sliky design of the aluminium bracket

Sand the bottom of those middle bars, get some super glue and accelerator spray and glue the mesh? Then after remove the ties. If that wouldn't be secure enough, get another bar if you have more, and sandwich the mesh between them with an adhesive (I'd use a few spots of something that sets fast like super glue, combined with a stronger slower curing adhesive of some sort). That way it should look clean with no cable ties

Absolutely pain making these lids, I've given up on them now and just make my own with Polycarbonate sheets from Toolstation

Agree and polycarbonate would also reduce water evaporation.

Its a good effort tbf they are a pain in the ass. Those thinner bars are for support i had to use one on my 3ft tank as the cutouts for lights and weir made it more tricky with the net. I also have the DD version although ive had a red sea one ready to replace it with when i can get the patience

Is it worth trying to heat the mesh up with a hairdryer to see if it will stretch a little. Nothing to lose

Looks good. I have the London Aquatics lid as I know I’d completely balls up anything DIY. AAC clam in I see ( I also succumbed to the temptation yesterday ! )

@@ReefDorkXtra It looks good 👍 I've built the DD one, tensioning the mesh & keeping the grid square is a headache 😂 took a few attempts but its worth the effort.
