Errata: as some have pointed out - I forgot that, in BG3, Dual Wielding or two weapon fighting doesn't require you to take the attack action in order to attack with you "off hand" as a bonus action - you can always do it regardless of what you use your action for.

One notable thing about bladesingers is that early on there are two elvish longswords that are finesse weapons! I'm sure there are better rapiers in later acts, but I think it's worth noting that an elven bladesinger is very thematic with them! Phalar Aluve is even a 'singing sword.'

I very much prefer going 14 dex rather than wis. Its even more impactful in BG3 than DnD because for some reason larian decided initiative rolls should be a d4 rather than a d20, so essentially +initiative bonuses are 5x more powerful in game than tabletop. Its actually crazy. An 18 dex character will ALWAYS go before a 10 dex character without other initiative bonuses.

I was one of those comments that wished and prayed for you to try out mods for BG3 exactly for videos just like this! As someone new to D&D but with hundreds of hours in BG3, playing with these mods, hearing your takes on different multiclasses and classes, differences between D&D and BG3 and most importantly a good insight into spells to look out for, it feels so so sooo good! Like Spirit Shroud on the bladesinger is a spell I didn't even know existed and now I get to try it out on my own Bladesinger. And speaking of that Bladesinger, I found it so funny hearing you say how much you've always wanted to make a Bladesinger + Paladin combo as that is exactly what I did with my character in my most recent playthrough. It's heavily modded so the entire party was very different to vanilla, but I ended up with a 10 Bladesinger + 2 Conquest Paladin, 11 Divine Soul Sorcerer + 1 Order Domain Cleric, 5 War Domain Cleric + 2 Conquest Paladin + 5 Battlemaster Fighter, and lastly a 8 Path of Giants Barbarian + 4 Rune Knight Fighter. The amount of different combinations is incredible and I can't wait to see more of the different builds you can come up with if you tackle more BG3 content!
@bigsmoke8816 Жыл бұрын
Heya Colby just a quick tip on if you ever want to build that Bladesinger/Paladin in 5e: Pick Tortle as your race, dump your dex/wisdom and be a strength based bladesinger wielding a longsword. That way you'll have a base unarmored AC of 17 without needing to invest into dex, which means you wont have to spread your ability scores as much.

Idk if you have time to check out new builds in bg3 but I do suggest to check out blade singer + swords bard with duals. It's so much fun and the buffs to multiclassing (level-in-class for resources like inspiration or charges of war priest instead of ability scores) does incredible job on this combination. Plus another note about bg3 gameplay - 2 thorn blades (that dammon sells in act2) adds 1d4 of damage when you concentrate on a spell and they each do that so each attack gets additional 2d4. with another ring that does the same - it's 3d4 on each attack during concentration. so with upcasted spirit shroud BB attack basically a nuke strike

If there are any modders out there, I'd like to recommend creating an immersive endless spire/battle tower that scales with your level and gives you random encounters and loot after you beat the game, this would allow the opportunity for so much more in the modding community, imagine if you could get a character to level 40? I know I would enjoy this much more rather than feeling like I need to start a new game every time I want to experience a different class in true combat scenarios, this would extend the life of your character in the roleplaying fashion so much
@Swizz1210 ай бұрын
At last !! A class besides wizard that uses Intelligence as a core ability. I love the class for that alone - maybe at some future time Larian can include this class, the game is definitely in need of another class that really uses Int. You have motivated me to mod this game (which I haven't done to date, despite nearly 1900 hrs spent on it). I have been avoiding mods so far, since so many of them are either gamebreaking (by being too powerful), or purely cosmetic (mostly Shadowheart or your PC in very skimpy clothing). I am one of those people who cannot finish a game, because by the time I get to about level 7-9 I'm thinking of tweaking my class / race / equipment loadout / party comp, whatever. This is definitely worth another run as soon as I get tired of my current team. My current group is this : PC is a Duergar Berserker* (Tavern Brawler) throwing build + S'heart as a Tempest Cleric + Astarion as a Thief/Monk (Tavern Brawler) + Gale (straight Evoker). My Duergar pays homage to Rhiannon's ''Tomato' character, when High Rollers played BG3 - love that red face and bright green hair). I haven't yet run the 'Giddyup Gale' version of Gale, as played in Arcane Arcade (where chat made all the choices), where Gale becomes a Barbarian, dressed all the time in Lae'zel's minimalist camp clothing............but never say never, because it WAS pretty funny (and Gale worked well as a berserker, due to being re-specced). I'll see if I can get at least to the end of Act 2 with my current party - maybe even further as I haven't explored Baldur's Gate itself - and then its mod-time and another playthrough as an Artificer tank with maybe two squishy spellcasters in tow, given how well the class you describe can focus enemies attacks on themselves....................

Some note about 5e Spells Mode. They are bugged with booming blade and green flame blade - all classes with extra attack can use them as if they're blade singers, you just need to make first attack as usual physical attack and then you'd have BB and GFB highlighted as available in-1-action moves. That means that 5 paladin 5 warlock can do 2 BB + normal attack (and add smites atop at it) sooooo way to break the game even more than we usually do

To your point in the intro about modding having an effect on the integrity of the game (specifically regarding difficulty). I have found that, once you have an understanding of how difficult you would like the game to be, you can often mod the game in order to fit your specific preferences, and with regards to developer intentions, it is important to consider that the developer spent all the time they did on balancing to create an experience ranging from fun to challenging for the widest portion of their expected audience as possible. They did not balance the game for you specifically, which is why the impact of modding on difficulty can bring new challenges to a game that you find too easy, or provide more options in a game where you find the difficulty to be limiting. Also, love the BG3 vids :)

I just caught something that gave me a great idea for something potentially super strong inspired by my favourite build of yours : the hexbladesinger (eldritch blast in the middle of attacks just scratches the gish itch so well). What I noticed is this : pact of the blade's extra attack STACKS with other extra attacks features. Giving you 3 attacks for lvl6 Bladesinger + 5 Warlock. Now, I haven't tested this because my only high lvl campaign right now is a multiplayer one, so no mods. But depending on how that interacts with the bladesinger mod, it means you could potentially eldritch blast twice per turn. Combine that with spirit shroud and the only regret would be not having 13 levels to get action surge ! As I said I haven't been able to test this yet but I figured maybe you could and if it works that would be great news for us gish enthusiasts. Hoping you'll see this, love your vids keep it up and have a great day !

I ended up playing artificer because we needed a boost to healing, and buffs to our party, and I Loved this class! I have played a bit of an artillerist in a campaign later, but the first thing I played was an Alchemist, and I do love that classs! Being able to make elixirs and infusions to help my aparty, does force you to be a bit in the background, but once you get to level 10, you can have the spell rataining item, where ou can cast up to 10 spells up to size 2 (like, upcasted Healing word as a healer, or Ray of Sicknes, or thunderwave, or one of my favorites, acid arrow (I know, acid = bad, but... I got extra +5 damage to acid). But I loved that class! I wish I woudl have had Vortex warp when I played that class, and as an artillerist, who oft usede scorching ray from teh level 2 spell to cast many times, sometimes vortex warp let us move our barbarian around the field, and still being able to cast fireballs, and blasty spells! I've been playing Karlach with your thrower build from the other video, and it's been hilarious fun, but it spun me off onto a tangent of trying to make a Gnomish Grenadier and I'm realising I just don't know enough about this game for that level of theory-crafting... My objective was to focus on alchemist's fire, grease bottles, acid vials, water bottles and later smokepowder bombs as the objects being thrown, so obviously a few levels of Berserker Barbarian and Tavern Brawler are a given, but I don't know where to go with it after that. I thought I'd seen an ability at some point that let you throw as a bonus action? But I can't find it back and I may have just imagined it... I'd also prefer to multiclass into a class that lets me acquire more grenades, or increase their areas of effect, but I'm not sure those exist either. I'd love some tips, from anyone who sees this really...

In my extensive use of mods, what I've found regarding game breaking stuff - sometimes you want a chill funky "I have made the most broken character EVER" and other times you want "A REAL CHALLENGE". Baldur's gate is such a perfect game for such flavors as it has a ridiculous game replay-ability factor. Anyway I recommend mods by Mharius for some new takes on race and class options. If someone would like to bring all the companions with them on their adventure, I recommend "Aether's No Party Limits", and for a more skilled, challenge seeking aficionado I recommend Maxichigo's "Additional Enemies - More encounters and fights" and PseudoV11's "Double enemies".

Does Multiclassing Bladesinger 6 / Draconic (fire dragon) Sorcerer 6 allows you to add CHA to your green flame blade damage? Does it add it on both targets? It is super MAD so it would require the gloves of dexterity, but you get to keep full spell casting, CON proficiency and add CHA to damage twice on your cantrip. Plus quickened green flame blade to do it again. Gloves of Dexterity + 17 INT, 16 CHA. Hags hair to INT, ASI to get INT to 20 and another ASI for CHA to 18. You get to use level 6 wizard spells with spell scribe too. Unfortunately there is no "thunder damage" draconic sorcerer so this wouldn't work with booming blade. But Bladesinger 6 / Tempest Cleric 6 gets you Thunderbolt Strike which allows you to push enemies for 3m when you deal thunder damage which is quite good too. In this multiclass you can dump wisdom or keep it at 12/14 and it would still work fine.

Booming blade + bonus action shove is nutty

I love these videos! Hope we can do some more pathfinder 2e. That game needs some great optimizers.

Bladesinger for life

OMG I was planning to use this exact build for bladesinger in my second playthrough - feeling to ridiculously validated right now!!! There is one addition I am considering - what if I take the elven accuracy feat (from mod) and replace the last two levels of wizard/fighter with barbarian to get reckless attack (as I understand it works with all melee attacks not just strength based ones in bg3). My character would be getting triple advantage on all attacks. With the endgame rapier that's a 27% chance to crit (38.6% with the dead shot bow equipped). Gonna get those juicy crit smites every round :))

As a twilight cleric fan i downloaded a cleric subclass mod. love it.

The way the game works with these mods allows you to booming blade as your extra attack anyway, which takes away the luster of bladesingers extra attack special feature. Because paladin and deepened pact extra attack stack, the strongest gish ive found is hexblade5/paladin5 then fighter2 for action surge. Also, in a game where you can have advantage on tap from risky ring, and you can improve your critical range dramatically with items, i always pick elven accuracy as a feat...its pretty glorious

For Artificer, get 2 levels in sorcerer and get distant metamagic. Summons count as allies. Cast a summon, move away, use bag of holding spell twice on the summon....watch massive damage. Brokenly OP!

There's an Oath Of Conquest mod that I suggest you try if you're into modding. Also, Fizban's Tresury of Dragons got ported too, to buff dragonborn

I just took my Lae'zel down this path.. It seemed to fit her demeanor really well.

The WoW style death knight mod is super fun too. Pretty busted, but very, very enjoyable

for the bladesinger mod, since bg3 doesn't allow you to one hand a versatile weapon without having a shield, the mod removed the restriction to 2 handing longswords for bladesong. That means you get to use the phalar alluve longsword, which i think fits the bladesigner extremely well. My favorite for this character that i had a lot of fun with was going drow for rapiers and picking longsword as bladesinger for the phalar alluve and larenthian's wrath (that has the razor gale weapon skill for some great aoe with green-flame blade. Another fun idea for this is using something like the voss silver sword, while running some artificer levels with the subclass trait that lets you use your INT modifier instead of STR or DEX for magic weapons. :)

What i ended up using for this character was the infernal rapier, making my hits very consistent with 20 INT, from the Wyll questline, i definitely recommend it!

I went for longsword proficiency with bladesinger in order to wield the singing longsword you get in the underdark.

Adding another tip, when backing up your game files your game saves are located in a separate folder from where “Browse local files” takes you-they’re in your Local folder under AppData How to get there: Hold windows key and press R to open the “Run” window Type %appdata% Hit enter, go into Local folder Scroll down and go into Larian Studios folder Folder Baldur’s Gate 3->PlayerProfiles->Public->Savegames->Story All of these folders are your individual saves, feel free to backup wherever works best for you

I'd still love to see some builds that focus on the illithid powers if possible, but I love the builds in this video

Technically, in D&D, Bladesong ends if you don't have a free hand or light armor/no armor, so you want to be a duelist. Also, Its usually A scimitar you get with it, and a scimitar to me, seems to be the type of blade you'd dance with. Expeditious rettreat is another bonus action spell you may want to consider early on, oft I replace it when I get haste. I want to play a Full bladesinger, but Pali is good. Ancients is great, and you get some cool spells.
