Todays video is a wild one. We headed out for bluefin tuna in our local waters in northern california. We started off the day slow but things heated up in the afternoon with non stop action!

Nice man!! Sweet setup! The rod holders we were using aren’t the greatest to be honest. We are swapping them out, they kept rotating on the rail. If you can get some smiths, they are more expensive but probably better than the Amazon ones if you plan to fight the fish in the holder.

Awesome man glad to hear you are a fan! I would get a 20-30w for albacore. You can run smaller reels too if you are in a pinch. We caught them on little avets last year.

Thanks man, one of our best days of the year! We liked the rod holders for that time being. Since this video, we mounted to fixed rod holder, like ones you would mount to the gunnel, on the rail and it works really great. If you watch some of our newer tuna videos you will see how we mounted the rod holders.

Killer fish and yes power naps are a rule in. What kind of boat is it, How far out was the good water., I'm a commercial tuna fisherman I up here in Oregon but lived in Huntington Beach most of my life and worked on boats most of my life out of San Diego and Long Beach. Great job trading off the rod and killing it quickly I was on the wrong end of one of those battles for over five hours and then he decided to teach me a lesson and spooled me,boy did I hurt for a while Great job on the video

The Power Nap saved the day! It’s a 24’ Airslot and we were 30+ off the coast. It’s cool we reached someone all the way up on Oregon!! We always try to keep fresh hands on the reel, i think it helps keep our line real tight. That’s had to have been a major punch in the stomach! 5 hours and to watch the fish slip away is brutal!! Thanks!! It was an epic day! We haven't used the mad mac 240 yet, I am sure it works, its a big ole bait. Big bait big fish? We look for life, birds, fish jumping, whales, any signs of life. The rod we preferred was our big rod, a Penn Carnage III 80-150lb sized rod. We have used the Okuma PCH 60-100 lb size and its a little light for this application. One fish was caught on the 60-100lb sized rod.

I did a loop from Santa Cruz. 12 miles out near the fingers, it was 54F water and not blue. No signs of tuna or anything. I have never caught a Tuna but I am trying. I got a rod and reel for it and my little Whaler can get there if the weather is really nice.

Thanks man! It was a blast! I think the info online is misleading. One site from a someone’s blog says 2 fish per boat per day. Charter boats, and 6 pack boats come in loaded with fish all the time. From the rules I can see from CADW I see 2 fish per day or 20 fish per day boat limits. I don’t get where the 20 fish comes from. But I do think it’s 2 fish per angler.
