Where do you find all your cars?
I get asked that question all the time. The truth is, you have to search high and low. Not every tip is going to pay off, infact most won't. I'll go anywhere, any time to check out old cars.
This was a special trip south with my buddy David Newbern and our friend Brandon. I spent a day flying south, slept over then we drove 7 hours though 3 states to check out an old junk yard.
Classics from the 30's up till the 70's where packed in a 30 acre property.
Most of the cars where to far gone to be builders but lots of great parts to keep other cars on the road.
If you're interested in anything you saw on the video. contact Ed on Instagram @rustfinder for more information.
Shoot me an email dan@ddspeedshop.ca if you have some fun places to explore.

I grew up in the 80's and 90's. and i remember walking around junkyards with my grandfather foaming at the mouth at all the cars out there. Now here i am 30 years later foaming at the mouth over these scraps.. Time has certainly changed things. Thanks for the tour DD!

The first yard is all pine trees, pine needles are acidic, hence rotten car bodies, second yard is deciduous trees, leaves are less acidic, equals less rusty cars. Nice walk around!

I think the moist air, wet leaves and tree debris makes for one of the worst environments for cars. Its fascinating to see these yards but also for me rather sad in that all these potential projects have gone. Lets hope they can salvage a few gem parts for people.

We had a local yard in Sioux City, Iowa full of iron from the 30's to the 70's. They piled them as high as they would go. Used to go on the weekends with my dad, and crawl all around those wrecks. There was a pile of engines, and I grabbed a hemi valve cover. Also got a 55 Chevy gauge cluster. Man, if I had a time machine !

Went to visit my Auntie in Ohio from the UK in I think 1990, and while there got my Dad to take me to a yard that was similar in size, they had been collecting since the 20's...and just kept moving the front desk forward. I'm not kidding you It was almost a mile deep, I ran around that yard for nearly 3 hours ( I was 17 and frenetic!). It had everything from everywhere, Just row upon row, through the decades, seeing the imports start to arrive in the 60's rows, just mindboggling. It was one of the best memories of my youth. Incredible. A great book to get by Pat and Larry Kytola, helped spark my passion. Thanks for this Dan!

My uncle Clary had a yard full of car's and Boat's, and is dreading me turning our yard into a junk yard, I only have 3 in the shed next door, and only 3 in the yard, then the couple out the front, speaking of that I gotta go do some lawns, as we just had two King Brown Snakes in the shed toilet only 6 ft so I better mow the grass so we might be able to see them sooner, thanks for sharing, all the best to yous and your loved ones 😊

Speaking of junkyards... In high school, my friends spent many hours roaming junkyards We are talking the mid-late 70s..... we all had an automotive class ( Skill Center ) on the other side of the city, so we would be there for the afternoon... or some days we'd miss that class and take our own "field trip" and go hunting in the 4 junkyards of our city or one of the junkyards in the surrounding towns Those yards were loaded with car guy gold, and if we knew then what we know now we would've stripped all the moldings, emblems, and even big stuff (engines, transmissions, hoods),all of that classic muscle car gold just sitting there...... 😮 We' d be there for hours looking for parts for our rides... ✌️🙂 Thank you for that amazing video Dan it brought back lots of great memories... BTW: My car 66' Chevelle SS - Ex-Drag car... White / Red interior- 68' 327ci / 4spd / 12bolt ( my 1st car money pit $ ) Opps almost forgot.... NO Bumper 😉👍

Pretty cool Dan. I could just imagine what it would have looked like before the first purge when it was bumper to bumper. Sad that mother nature wants to eat everything. The video doesn't do it any justice, that rot is so bad and the only thing left of most of the cars is just a hollow shell of a once cool car. Still lots of value in parts and trim. Only problem is it would take a lifetime to remove, catalog and put to market any of it. Hopefully you find something to salvage and bring home weather its just a piece of window trim or a whole car. Thanks for sharing 👍

I know of a few places like that here in Minnesota less than 20 miles away. Just found a hoard I seen as a kid but got moved 30 miles away to different location in middle of a different woods. I think that's why they get so hard to find after the scrap price hit 300 a ton like 20 years ago now.

Same. Born in 76 so I too grew up during the same time. I loved walking through junkyards. We had a couple near where I grew up in southern California Plus there was (not sure if it's there anymore) I have to go see But it was a motorcycle graveyard basically with a 1man operation shop mechanic and a couple older dudes working the counter. That was awesome checking that out. People went so often and a lot just wanted to see all the different bikes..the motorcycle salvage started charging 5 bucks to go to the yard. People still paid.

Its criminal to me to see places like this. I know of a couple places in my state where the people that have properties like this love to show and let people walk around, but won't sell a thing. They have it you don't, and are just fine with letting things rust away when there are good folks out there that would and could do something with the cars/ parts. It's a shame folks didn't have a better way to care for these vehicles and made them available to folks to acquire.

After , countless of years of watching videos like this( I just stumbled upon this). I always wondered what happened to millions of classic cars GTO' s, SS Camaros, SS Chevelles, Chargers etc you get the idea that were built in the US say between 1940 and 1980. They didn't just melt away. There right here , being hoarded by people all over the US. It seems a new video pops up with all these classics in all these fields OWNED by someone who either doesn't want anyone else to have one OR is completely out of the loop. It seems more logical the former than the latter . WOW
