Thanks for the view of my old childhood village. I grew up in the 80s playing football & cricket on that field in the center. It used to be a well kept playing field, now all bush. You didn't go down the main street which wrapped around the playing field. Houses surrounded the four sides of the field. I lived in the NW corner. I also went to Zeeburg School in the old buildings in the 80s. Names I remember from those times are Raymond, Abidin, Ajay, Hemchand (Suren), Fazo, Paapas, Winky's boys. It was a fabulous and grand village in the 80s.

@@RealNiceGuyana Thanks. The bridge you exited at the end is De Groot's only bridge. Before crossing the bridge into Zeeburg, over the canal/koker. The bridge you entered, by the mandir, is Ocean's View 3'rd bridge. De Groot is a rectangle with the short Southern side touching the public road. Going left from De Groot's bridge is the main street. Western side of the rectangle. The road West of it didn't exist. Was a dam & flood wetlands separating the rectangular village from the canal's flood plain. Was a small forest grove once. Monkeys and wild animals used to live in it. A fishing village used to squat on the flood dam you parked and walked to the koker. That is now a road with houses. It might be a different village but might be now included in De Groot.

Thanks for making a basic video documentation of parts of true and real Guyana history. So much of the past is totally absent from the internet compared with other countries. At least from the recent past we see here a visual record will exist for the world to know. When I view other vloggers of GT it makes me wonder what's missing from the history between Stabroek Market then Courts store and now Giftland Mall. Those segments of Guyana's timeline are absent from the internet. All the old colonial kokers, kirks, cathedrals, estates/plantations and historic schools will all be gone one day leaving only these few images behind. Thanks for another upload.

I still marvel at the construction of those walls and kokers still standing today with next to no upkeep all these centuries. Thx for the vid. If you ever feel adventurous and want to venture in the country I'd love to see a trip into Mahaicony river especially from Mora Point to St. Francis mission. :)

At 15:38: those two koker. Knew this area very well when I attended Zeeburg Govt. Secondary school, ZGSS (shown in the video) many years ago. Had a chacha and his family (uncle and family) who lived at Ocean View, last street, near the playground. Would visit them often after school, walking along that seawall. Also, remember walking along that same seawall (further West) from near the cinema (Tarla) to get to school from my home in Metten-Meer-Zorg East. The few school children using that seawall as road to get to ZGSS (there were other roads to get here) were free to take up a hand full or two of whole dried shrimps (to snack on) that the fisherfolks had blanched in salted water and put out on the large flat surface of the wall to dry. De Groot En Klyne was not as populated/developed then as now. Our Technical Drawing teacher (Ganga Persaud) lived there. Also had a close school friend who live in 1st street Ocean View (Chamanlall Naipaul) who recently died. I also recall another school friend (Ishranie Singh) who lived along that cross street you drove through to get to those koker. Her dad was a pharmacist and they had a pharmacy too. at 22:19, what you call the old school was actually the new school built the year I graduated from ZGSS. The actual old school can be seen at 24:48. So what you see here are THREE distinct periods in the development of this school. The good old days. This vid does bring back good memories. Thanks for the upload.
