@@R2Bl3nd And monitors and TV's resolution keeps on increasing because... companies need to make more money I guess? That means the older video's shot in 480p get stretched out and looks bad on modern monitors. Go get a older monitor that can only go up to 480p, watch a video in 480p and won't look so bad and could even look close to 720p or 1080p quality.
@R2Bl3nd6 ай бұрын
@@TheFlyingZulu well, it's not quite that simple, since analog video tends to be interlaced (480i) and needs to be displayed on a screen with scanlines to look good. Deinterlacing isn't perfect. Also, 480p content is compressed to look good on a 480p screen, hence why if you had the raw footage, and upscaled it to 1080p, KZbin would compress it to look good on a 1080p screen. A 480p screen doesn't have as many pixels, and therefore you can't see the compression artefacts as easily. I agree that the ever-increasing resolutions have diminishing returns. They take so much more data while barely looking better. Besides, most content isn't even produced well enough to benefit from the extra resolution anyway. With standard definition video, more care had to be put into the limited resolution, so the colors, detail, framing, etc were better.

Accident: Lake Hood Seaplane Base. Anchorage, AK. 07-Jun-2009. The private pilot was taking off in the floatplane from the lake’s west waterway. The aircraft was on the step, gaining airspeed, and the takeoff run seemed normal to the pilot. The aircraft was nearing takeoff speed, and proceeding directly down the waterway, when it encountered a right quartering tailwind gust that lifted up the right wing and float. The Beaver veered to the left toward a steep bank, and the pilot was unable to correct the deviation with the rudder. He did not feel that he could reduce power, as he would slam into the bank. The aircraft lifted off, but after the float collided with the top of the bank, it cartwheeled about 160 degrees to the left before coming to rest on its right side. It sustained substantial damage to the wings, fuselage, and floats. The pilot reported that there were no mechanical malfunctions or failures. Pilot and three passengers only suffered minor injuries Reported wind at the airport approximately three minutes after the accident was from 020 degrees magnetic at 3 knots, with no recorded gusts. ANC09CA050. A/C is restored.

Rookie stick and rudder skills, he never got on step, that's critical to reduce the hydrodynamic drag and increase air speed. He displayed poor directional control with the rudder, and from where he crashed, he had 1500 feet more of water to utilize for the take off run. Winds were not a major factor, lack of ability was behind this crash.
@zachansen82936 ай бұрын
stick and rudder don't matter. the problem was trying to "save" the takeoff instead of just stopping and swinging around and trying again. It's a decision problem and that's a MUCH bigger problem.

wind not a factor, didn't you see the windsock ? no prob that pilot obviously didn't either
@josepherickson60566 ай бұрын
@@servantprince I didn't say wind is not a factor, what I said was wind is not a "major factor". Lack of technique is the primary factor here, or as the FAA likes to say the pilots inability to maintain directional control of the aircraft.... I've taken off by, and landed by that specific windsock thousands of times, I certainly saw it 😅 A crosswind takeoff at Lake Hood and at any lake or river is a very common event. For reference, I'm formerly a seaplane instructor, current 121 Airline Captain/Check Airman and still fly seaplanes out of Lake Hood on the side for one of the Part 135 charter operators at Hood. Lots of DHC-2 (Beaver) time, and a lot of time operating out of PALH Seaplane Base... So it's not really an amateur analysis. Thanks for pointing out that light crosswind though!
@xrpb11a6 ай бұрын
@@josepherickson6056 There's no reason whatsoever for a crosswind takeoff at Lake Hood. Plenty of room to manuver into a straight headwind takeoff.
@josepherickson60566 ай бұрын
@@xrpb11a Haha have you flown out of Hood? The East/West waterlane is 4541' long, the North/South waterlane is 1930' long, The NW/SE waterlane is only 1369' long. So you're telling me that when the tower is using a west flow and the west lane is in use, that because of a light crosswind out of the Northwest you're going to request the NW or N waterlane for takeoff even though you've cut your takeoff distance by a half or more? I'd personally rather use correct seaplane flying technique to get the aircraft on step quickly and efficiently and then use rudder and aileron to maintain directional control during the remaining takeoff run (this guy didn't do those things). Then, once you're airborne you still have a significant amount of water in front of you to set it back down if you have an engine failure immediately after takeoff. If you fly out to any lakes or rivers with challenging terrain you'll find that crosswinds takeoffs and landings become operationally necessary a lot of the time, and it's a basic skill that every pilot should learn in their initial stages of training. If you can't handle a crosswind take off or landing, you shouldn't be at the controls of an aircraft. Period. Forgive me for being rude and blunt, but you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

In perfect conditions, with less passengers and fuel and a straight & level takeoff the stunt may have worked but the 3 kt. 20 degree tailwind and fully loaded along with a veering half power takeoff pushed the wing to far and it stalled. Conclusion - lives risked for a great video. Hard to believe people are willing to attempt this stuff just for a video...
