Wow, That plane was seriously overloaded, and when the pilot couldn't get it up on step, he should have aborted the takeoff. Strangely stupid behavior on his part.

Float flying differs from wheel flying in that turning takeoffs and landings are pretty common, due to obstacles and naturally-shaped waterways. If you try to force a plane to fly early, you should expect a strong left-turning tendency. Similarly, If your right-rudder inputs aren’t having the desired effect, reducing power slightly will allow you to correct course to the right. Some instructors don’t like to teach step-turn maneuvers, due to the risks involved. But a pilot who is accustomed to utilizing reduced-power step-turns would have known what to do here. This guy had a tiger by the tail, and no ideas.
