I’m happy that you review these films. King Kong ‘76 is such underrated remake. And King Kong Lives is such a schlock, I love it.

With apologies to TitanGoji, the effects in KING KONG LIVES are terrible! The gorillas are just slightly more expressive -- barely so -- than Toho's exploitation versions from KING KONG VS. GODZILLA and KING KONG ESCAPES, and like those cinematic travesties, LIVES has a dunderheaded script that no one should have green-lit. KING KONG LIVES was made on a shoestring budget and it shows; John Scott's rousing film score is the only thing the film has to commend it.

I always liked king kong being more bipedal like a sasquatch/big foot than him just being an oversized gorilla

Here's a little-known fact: as anyone who has the seen the original SHOULD realize, the 1933 KONG is largely bipedal as well, which makes criticizing the bipedalism of the '76 KONG an empty and unwarranted gripe.

I don't like how human he looks on the posters for Kong '76. It's a relic from Dino's big push to make Kong look more human, which got pretty much abandoned when Rick Baker made the suit.

Kong 76 is my favourite Kong movie. Great man-in-suit action and good minatures combined make a great kajiu flick. The score by John Barry is one of the best scores in cinema history. Movie is well paced, unlike that boring shlock that was the unnecessary remake by Peter Jackson. King Kong lives however is a guilty pleasure. There were far too many characters in he movie (I can´even remember their names), the score wasn´t good, John Atkins character was too over the top and Lady Kong just appeared without a build. But at least this Kong movie is something different than most of the others in terms of story. Since there are 3-4 movies in the franchise that are just telling the same story). But it also has some nice scenes (Kong collecting the crocodiles or killing the hunters, Kong in rural areas insted of New York).

Kong 76 was Dope. I Agree with you on Tron Legacy. Rick Baker is a legitimately documented deity. This review was freaking awesome. No disagreement with me.

I’m still confused on how they were able to make King Kong Lives with all the red tape. Also quick question, did you know there’s 3 animated King Kong films? 2 based on the 2000 TV show?

King Kong and Invasion of the Body Snatchers kinda kick-started the 1980s cycle of The Only Decade With Good Remakes (The Blob, The Thing, The Fly, Invaders from Mars, Cat People, Little Shop of Horrors, probably others I'm forgetting). Cimabue to the Renaissance masters, as it were. Gotta say though, I'm not a huge fan of these outside of the suit monster and miniatures (oh boy do I love that end sequence for King Kong Lives). It's too long, it takes itself too seriously (something KKL doesn't do, which I think helps it a lot). It's a movie about a giant monke grabbin' a gal and rampaging through the jungle until he gets nabbed and then tear-asses through New York. That original film gets to the point, gives you the scenes you want, and is out the door before your bladder gives out on you. One thing I'll give Kong: Skull Island: It's under 2 hours long. No King Kong film needs to be longer than 2 hours (YOU HEAR THAT, PETER JACKSON). The fact that Godzilla vs Kong clocks in under 2 hours is actually the thing that gives me the most hope that it'll be good. Sure, out of pure morbid curiosity I'd like to watch that damn 3 hour version of Kong '76, but only out of morbid curiosity. One other thing that bothers me- the weird beyond-on-the-nose social commentary. I'm not like... a FAN of oil companies per se, but... they made Charles Grodin look like Hitler (I mean in dress and appearance- his hair, his mustache) and Jeff Bridges look like Jesus. Okay, fine, visual cues, whatever, it's a dumb movie. Also an oil tanker would be the only kinda boat one could conceivably transport a 50 foot money in, so OK, not a big deal... until the bizarre sermon Grodin gives while Kong is stuffed inside a giant gas pump before Kong steps on him. And then, a year after Vietnam was concluded, we've got Jeff Bridges cheering and shrieking with glee when Kong brutally tears through a bunch of soldiers... which is uh, really uncomfortable to watch. There's a VHS/DVD cover out there for one of the myriad releases of King Kong vs Godzilla that uses pictures of the 1984 Godzilla suit and the 1976 King Kong suit. It just. MAN that cover burns me up, that we'll never get to actually see suits made in that era using judo on eachother. AGGHHHHHHHHH.

King Kong 76 was one of the first films to sneak in SJW Propaganda into a Big Hollywood Movie.

@@loanaoftheshellpeople5627 Movies have always been propaganda of one kind or another- left, right, corporatist, communist, etc. I just feel like the stuff in Kong 76 was really out of place and thuddingly obvious.

Just one of those Ludicrous Ideas Dino De Laurentiis threw out there, In order to create interest in his Projects. In the end he made King Kong Gets A Heart Transplant and Finds A Girlfriend.

I hated both of the Kong films by Dino De Horrendous, He was a Cheap, Corner Cutting Bastard. He hired the Satire Happy Hack Writer of Batman to pen the Screenplay(Who Stuck In Lines Like-Put Me Down, You Chauvinist Male Ape!), He was too Cheap to hire anyone to do Stop-Motion Animation(Can you Imagine this movie with Effects by Ray Harryhausen or even Jim Danforth?), So there weren't even any Dinosaurs in it. Instead we got Men in Gorilla Suits, and an Expensive and Completely Unnecessary Animatronic Kong that could Barely Move. This movie was nothing more than a Crass, Cynical Exploitation of the Classic King Kong Name, and the Sequel was even Worse(So Bad It Was Almost Unwatchable.), and a Huge Box-Office Bomb. So Glad Dino's Kong Franchise Didn't Continue, and the Rights Eventually Reverted Back to Filmmakers That Actually Cared.
