The De Lisle carbine designed by William Godfrey De Lisle was one of WW2`s most interesting weapons offering a superbly quiet fully suppressed rifle for commando raids using a .45 ACP/Auto pistol round shot through a converted SMLE MK3 actioned rifle. This De Lisle reproduction rifle from TW Chambers, Scotland is a superbly accurate rendition in every detail of the Sterling Arms De Lisle made at Dagenham during the war. Perfect for the collector or shooter wanting an historically correct rifle embodying the authentic design of the original. Build quality is excellent and every part is made to be as true to the original as possible.
25, 50, 75 and 100 yard factory ammo tests and reloads to test this fine silenced rifle to ascertain accuracy and trajectory down range and how quiet off course from this TW Chambers repro.

My Irish father served 7+ years with the Irish Guards & No.s 1 & 2 Commandos from 1938-45 but typically never talked about it. - I was forbidden all toy guns - so naturally I have been a hunter and target shooter now for some 66 years 😄.

Nice video and firearm! I have a Delisle clone that I built in the USA, I've really enjoyed shooting it.. Here we have to obtain ATF tax stamps for a short barrel rifle and for a suppressor. Two tax stamps total for a Delisle. My rifle is a fairly faithful reproduction, Ian Skennerton who is based in AUS provided blue prints. For accuracy, I recommend hollow point bullets. These bullets are inherently more accurate in 45ACP than ball ammo due to the manufacturing process. In fact the US Military marksmanship teams use the Nosler 185gr JHP. Cheers!

Very interesting, it was clearly a very effective weapon in the fight hands. One thing though and just out of interest, I would love to have seen the sound level measured at the target end too to see if anybody other than the target is likely to have heard the shot, another sentry for example.

A more realistic test of "operational consistency" would be to fire a shot from a cold bore, then wait for ethe barrel to cool down, then fire another at the same aiming mark, then a third for a "group after the same "cooling> Omn the "two-way rifle range" these cute carbines would not usually be laying down a hail of bullets, but potting the odd inconvenient human or canine sentry, until the blokes with the serious toys could do a short, sharp assault to finish the job. Note that the "silenced" Sten and later L34 were generally used in "single shot" mode until battle ramped up in a target-rich environment. . Once the belt-feds and grenades join in, "discretion" is less important

The clatter of the bolt during reloading defeats the whole object of a silent weapon. That said, an interesting one, without doubt.

In a "close" rural or urban environment, you probably would not even notice it, at 15 metres or even closer. This, especially if the operator is working the bolt SLOWLY. Only in the movies do the heroes have a quiet chat after sending hundreds of rounds down-range, indoors. Theatrically racking the slide on a shotgun is best dune BEFORE close battle is imminent. Otherwise it just clearly discloses your location, weapon type and "limited skill level". Once the shooting starts, the sound of gunfire and loud yelling will mask a LOT. Anyone who has ever fired a decent center-fire firearm in a close environment WITHOUT hearing protection will be aware that the first shot essentially "shuts down" hearing ability, which is why "professionals" use well-practised drills and HAND signals before and during and, often, after a contact.

Love the videos Bruce, just one tiny suggestion during the filming of the shooting inside the range: it would save you so much time in editing the video if you set the camera focused and then go to manual mode to avoid the shifting focus and sudden change in the exposure. Otherwise, it’s a superb review of a classic carbine. I’d love to see more of these in the future.

The qu3stion is how much of the sound is actually the noise of the striker falling, vs. The report thru the suppressor...I've shot suppressed Ruger 10-22s where the action cycling made more noise than the report!

I built one of these a few years ago. Still not got around to putting any baffles in or build a mag well/plate. But such good fun. Though I left the bolt the original full length. Would fix that if I ever built another. The inner liner is interesting. To keep all the powder residue from clagging up the inside of the moderator tube. Might incorporate one of those. As my barrel is back drilled and ported after 8-3/4", to keep the original ballistics, but stay UK legal.

Given that the groups you got were similar at each range, I'd wager the limitation was what you were able to do with the crude sights. I know it wasn't fielded, but one of these with a period correct scope on it would be cool!

You could get TW to modernise it slightly.. build it on a No.4 action, with a 4T cheek piece and a No.32 replica scope.. You would still have the ladder sight, but the battle peep would be ground off.. I think that would be kinda good..

Hi The wartime barrel was a lot shorter but for legal reasons in the UK its longer, hence less baffles, but you can reload to get it super quiet. At 100 yards when the De Lisle was fired the muzzle report was hardly audible, hope that helps.
@todderstaffes
@todderstaffes 5 ай бұрын
presumably you have no experience of suppressed firearms, Hollywood suppressed quietness only exists in movies and possibly on rimfire guns with massive suppressors.. Most of my centerfire rifles you would not want to shoot indoors without hearing protection, even with a moderator on the end of them… I have one of these from chambers and they are very quiet indeed, about the volume of an unsupressed sub 12 air rifle… Best proper review on a firearm from a UK channel I have seen so thumbs up 👍

My Dad was a Royal Naval Ordnance Artificer in WWII. When we went to see Dr. No, the James Bond film, I asked him how the sound was suppressed. He said that silencing to that extent was impossible - and then described how the originals were made. He had obviously worked on them for the Royal Marines aboard the ships on which he served, because the parts in the video were just as he described.

How you are going to hit a target with a maybe 800 fps bullet from a 12 inch barrel at 200 yards I do not know...maybe you can hit something the size of a dumpster.. but a person sized target ( presumably what it's for) not with any reliability.
