This is the only game I actively keep tabs on in the hope that there is some scrap of news in regards to something new. For real, with Xenoblade Chronicles hitting the Switch with great success, it would be the perfect momentum for them to remaster/port the original two to the Switch and attempt to find the audience it could easily have. Smash Bros even has Sagi as a spirit, like come on, there's enough current reference for them to do it. I'd love to write these fuckers a letter but they only accept inquiries in Japanese.

@@BadgersGameRoom I feel like a well-written letter to MonolithSoft after the success of the Xenoblade re-release in the last couple of weeks might actually create the kinda spark necessary for that kind of thing to happen, as Baten Kaitos is a cult following kinda game that only reasonably failed to garner attraction at the time because it was an exclusive on an outclassed console not known for its JRPGs. With a Switch release on the Eshop, it and Origins would flourish among the slew of lower end JRPGs that kinda permeate throughout it.

BK:tlo has aged so well. It's a jewel filled with colors. Characters, enemies, backgrounds and even cards display outstanding level of detail. While I find the voice acting to be lacking, at least it's there! The combat is brilliant and highly addictive it should come with a warning. Then again cardgames have a bad reputation to be addictive😆 The musical score is of course godlike -sublime filled with emotion, every piece was performed with a high degree of talent. My current favorite track is the one featured in the mystical garden, mixed with water effects throughout the labyrinth makes it one of the most memorable melodies in the game. You know BK:tlo has something for everyone when you get to a certain 8 bit dungeon. An HD port for current generation consoles is much needed. May we keep on enjoying it for many years more❤️💯

Great video man. Didn't have Xbox or a PS2, I was a GameCube kid. This game was visually stunning when I first played it. I often put the remote down and simply gazed at the setpieces. Agree with all the points on the music, I wasn't a fan of tracks being used for multiple cities, but aside from utilization the music is one of my favorites (Motoi Sakuraba was a monster during that era). Also loved how when you brought up the bad VA, Palolo III was the first thing that came to mind. I swear they pulled that kid off the street two minutes before recording the final take...

Something to remember about card combos is that they DO matter but not as much. Sure, short combos are just a nice bonus for the most part, but longer combos give bigger % modifiers to your total damage, with the 1 to 9 (or 9 to 1) combos basically tripling your final damage. I have completed this game several times and god I love it.
@BadgersGameRoom3 жыл бұрын
I just couldn't pull them off I prob should have setup my deck better. Funny thing is I'm playing thru Origins for my next review and I'm pulling off insanity combos...go figure lol
@torashiki56463 жыл бұрын
@@BadgersGameRoom tbh they arent necessary to finish the game just like in Origins. As for the deck thingy, something very obscure about EW is farming specific magnus from certain enemies - when you know what to farm for the game becomes ludicrously easy and combos are considerably easier to do if you have whole decks with multiple combo numbers. For example, farming a full Light deck for Lyude on certain monsters at certain points (Library, Forest of Spirits, Garden of Death, etc) can literally McFucking break the game in two since not only Light is the most broken element in the game but also its a bunch of 3-4 combo number cards.

Baten Kaitos Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean wow!!! I think it’s my favorite RPG of all times. I remember playing it for the first time back in 2003 and the first thing I noticed was the pre rendered background locked great an then the first fight and the True Mirror starts “what a great soundtrack” I wasn’t really in to the turn based card system but to music really helped and then the first boss with another awesome some Vitrolic Stroke a think. My English was really crappy back then but this game help me learn a lot. I noticed you don’t use straights spirit numbers on cards very often. On my last playthrough I built some great decks I could proudly say I did a full 9 straight chain and ohh boy the bonus damage was crazy like %100 or more I even took a picture XD. There are also some elementals defense cards that work exactly the same as your special attacks with levels and you have to play a card of the same element to use it but they are amazing with that card you can stop the enemy attack. It’s really useful for some bosses like Giacomo or tougher. For example when Giacomo gets his health low pulls a 9 hit combo with a finishing move if you have that the water defense elemental magnus I mentioned you use 3 defense cards and the last was water you can interrupt Giacomo attack it’s great. It’s also worth mentioning that this magnus evolves with you they start at level III and keep going up increasing it’s defense power. Overall great couple of games Baten Kaitos, I stopped playing them because both my game cubes stopped working and took me a while to find someone to repair them but I also got one of those component to HDMI cables and manage to play Baten Kaitos at it’s best glory with the progressive scan mode and looks even better.
@BadgersGameRoom4 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for clearing up a few things about the cards. I barely used Straight chains I just couldn't see the benefit as they were too rare for me. But I like the fact there are different play styles as I was still able to beat the game playing my own way. That's what makes this game so replayable I think...you can try new strategies every playthrough. And of course the awesome music and graphics make it that much better.
@FalcoMerc4 жыл бұрын
@@BadgersGameRoom It's a very unique game I try to replay it both Baten Kaitos Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean and Baten Kaitos Origins at least once a year. It took a while but the game is getting all the recognition it deserves. The defense magnus I mentioned are called Element + Aura for example Wind Aura, Fire Aura, etc. The bonus you get for doing straights and pairs is more helpful while defending you may not have the element to counter the enemy attacks so for example you manage to pull 4 cards pairs or straights you manage to nullify all the non-elemental damage but also got +50 fire damage so with your bonus defense points from the straighs/pairs you get -%40 so the total of the attack is going to be just 30 doesn’t sound like a lot but in though boss fights is really helpful. The second interesting thing to try are doing the SP Combos that you get from recipes or from tips in the description of magnus (the avocado says “some say that it tastes like tuna if your add some soy sauce) you can make some powerful recovery magunus that way. I recommend the following combos: On the game you only can find two sacred wines a really useful magnus that heals 500 and revives allies to get this you need to use during combat the Holly Grail and Rice wine on the same turn just this two then in the summary page the new magnus will pop out you just need to select it at the end of the battle to get it. The second SP combo is mixing Avocado and soy sauce in the same turn it doesn’t matter if it is on enemies or allies. By mixing this you get Fatty tuna that heal 1900 HP!!! And if you manage to pull a pair or straight with your healing items you can heal more for example let’s say one of your party members is down so you use a Sacred Wine with number 7 and then a Fatty Tuna with 8 that makes 2400 and the bonus straight it gives let’s say 10% =240 so you are going to be recovering 2640 instead that’s really neat.

Not sure if you know how to select the other numbers besides the top right number, just tilt the C Stick in the direction of the number you want. In all of the videos I see no one seems to be doing this and I don't remember if the game tells you or not. The numbers work like poker hands, so if you make pairs, three of a kinds and straights you increase damage done. The best combos being Final Straight Sunrise/Sunset 1-9 and 9-1 respectively increasing damage done by 300% making the hardest of bosses cakewalks. Later on in the game its worth grinding to get some of the more powerful magnus. Towards the end of the game you get access to magnus with 4 differerent spirit numbers, and with a good collection of these you'll be hitting straights almost every turn. It is worth it since it can double the damage you deal and make the combat much quicker. A big complaint I see of this game is the combat dragging on too long, but that's because people didn't engage with the battle system in the way it was intended. In fact, it can sometimes be better to skip a card to maintain a straight or a series of pairs/triples because of the damage multiplier you get. It's a lot of fun when you understand it.
@lightning09383 жыл бұрын
Most annoying part for me is in the middle of a straight they do a guard that immediately ends your attack(the guard where a red circle appears over them, giant flash then your turn is suddenly over) and since the attack is incomplete you get no bonus, unless by a voice attack or something.

I hope this series gets picked up again. You don't see games like this anymore. Pretty fun The black dragon boss that turns into the wiseman boss in Origins I still can't get past. Either I have a sucky card set or my level isn't high enough (50)

Damn. The comment about not being concerned about the hand you are dealt and getting the numbers right is a big misunderstanding i believe. I can finally remember putting my deck together and getting massive damage from going through the numbers 1 to 9 or having all elements being 1 only. And when you pull that off you will see massive damage increases. But you will have to be really mindful about the cars you put in your deck.
@BadgersGameRoom2 жыл бұрын
I meant that if you CAN'T manage to wrap your head around that don't worry about it you should still be able to win battles. But yes by all means the extra damage is great 👍

I remember getting all level 99s in every character in this game then letting the gamecube auto play this music even when I had to go to school. It's all fun and games until your sibling pulls the memory card 🤣 Note: Gibari was extremely broken. He could make any boss in the game including the end game boss spin in a circle.
