Deacon Blue - Sydney - November 22 & 27 2019

A treat for Deacon Blue 'Believers', recorded at their Sydney concerts on the 22nd and 27th of November 2019. 17 songs which can be listened to as a delicious whole or broken into chunks and savoured song by song.
30 years on and still going strong, Deacon Blue sounded fantastic, performing 24 songs on the first night and 23 on the second. As with all their shows the setlists were not the same. The songs in this video are basically in the same order as they were played on the two nights, with the exception of "Your Town" which was played earlier on the second night. Of course, some songs were not performed both nights. I had thought of creating two seperate videos but I wanted to watch it as one complete performance. Despite some differences in sound quality between the two nights (where I was standing on the 22nd produced poorer results), I’m pleased with the end product. I hope I’ve done their live performances justice. I also hope they’ll be returning to Australia soon.

@@ruudvandiermen8747 The ads have absolutely nothing to do with me. You had better take your complaint to KZbin. I'm not paid anything as i don't own the copy write to the material. KZbin are suppose to be paying money to the owners which would include Deacon Blue. Perhaps you are annoyed by the possibility of them earning money. That all said, yes I totally agree with you that the placement of the ads totally destroys the enjoyment of the music. When breaks have been marked in the video (as I have done) the ads could be placed between songs.

So love deacon blue. Saw them the first time they came at the Coogee bay hotel. Loved them ever since and was excited to see them 30 years on at the factory theatre at Marrickville. They were as good as ever!! I’m a believer!!

I missed them the first time around although I have liked them since 'When the World Knows Your Name' was first released. So I was very pleased when this tour was announced. Two great nights at The Factory. I hope they return soon.

Thanks for posting this. I was meant to be seeing them live this evening in Nottingham (UK) but all theatres & other entertainment venues are closed due to Covid-19, so it's been rescheduled for next year. So instead I watched you excellent footage on my smart TV with my Bluetooth headphones and danced away. I live alone - apart from my cat who was somewhat unsettled by my actions!

Very glad my footage could bring a little consolation to your disappointment at missing seeing them live. I'm hoping that your rescheduled concert goes ahead next year. So many concerts I have tickets to are now being rescheduled for second and third times. My living arrangements are similar to yours. My cat however, is used to my dance moves. The crazy thing Peter ( as a gigging musician myself) is that most ( if not all) bands tune down live so they appear to still be able to hit " the high notes" as they can no longer hit those notes as they did when they were younger - but this is still in the original key as when they recorded them in the 80's/90's - brilliant!!!

Listening/ watching this concert from Sydney, Australia while I'm in Salem, Massachusetts in 2020, discovered Deacon Blue in 1987 while living in the Oxford Circle section of Northeast Philadelphia listening to a radio show out of Trenton, Nj called "Rock over London" with Graham Dene. Real Gone Kid was in their top 5 songs of the week. Oh those years flew by...but remember which relish finally getting Real Gone Kid on CD back in 2001!!! Been blasting it loud out of car radio ever since!! Thanks for posting this concert!!

Two great nights! I'm glad my video has brought back the memories. These days I'm frustrated how quickly I forget the details of the concerts I go to. I find videoing a few songs (although in this case I did get a little carried away) helps me relive the experience. I've looked at this video many many times since.

After the first show, I left a message on Facebook asking them to please sing "That's What We Can Do" on the 27th. I've no idea if my message influenced their playlist in anyway, but if you recall, they did play it. I was so stoked that I didn't even have the presence of mind to record it. @@Peter_LiveMusic i know you weren't asking for it but it's a public video and I wanted to share my own thoughts. Sometimes you gotta live in the moment and enjoy the concert. We don't get to see these bands every day.

@@musikandotherstuff How you enjoy a concert is entirely up to you. Lots of people go along, drink too much and spend the entire performance shouting in their friends' ears. Personally I find it very annoying but that seems to be their idea of seeing a band. Mine is videoing a number of songs. I did video more songs at Deacon Blue (about a third of each show) than I normally do because I like the band. For the remainder of each show I was 'living the moment' as you put it. But I take offence that I wasn't enjoying the concert. For me videoing is a significant part of my enjoyment of any concert. If I wasn't videoing I probably won't have gone to the second show. Now we have both shared our thoughts. I'd much rather know what you thought of the video itself, either the band's performance or my attempt at capturing it.

I bootleg audio all the time , less work than filming but still requires me to not clap (loudly) or sing along and yes probably nullifies my experience to some degree. But being able to listen back for years to come is worth the hardship in my opinion. Theres some gigs I've relived 30+ times. Great work uploader, brilliant video.

Actually they did. It was the third song of their performance on the 27th. Deacon Blue are a great live band, not sure what Lorraine’s problem was on this occasion. When she’s good, she’s really good - but when she’s bad she’s awful. Not the best 🙉

Not sure why you're blaming Lorraine when the problem is most obviously my non-professional recording gear and her position right in front of me on one of the two nights. Her vocals sound better on the night when I was on the opposite side of the stage to her. However, sound quality in any venue is always poorest right down the front (which is why I rarely video from there these days). Unfortunately, the sound quality of my other Deacon Blue concert is also not good, once again being too close to the speakers. Maybe third time lucky.

Normally the vocals are seamless and balanced. I’m not ‘blaming’ anyone - but on this occasion Lorraine’s vocals are too prominent and she’s really not at her best. Perhaps she had some sound issues.
