It's important to note that abuse isn't only physical. Abuse is also verbal. Ignoring verbal abuse can lead to physical abuse.

lot more the that..there's emotional, sexual, neglect, financial, abandonment..probably more sadly..as for lots of women they usually can't fight back, and if any do and hurt or death occurs they get locked up a long if they get brave enough cause it's hard to get away from these types,.they are possessive and never leave you alone.

So true. I was in a relationship with verbal abuse happening to me everyday. According to him, I couldn't do anything right. I was afraid every second that i was with him. It finally wears you down to you start thinking that you are useless and more. The fear would start from the time i would get up to the time I'd go to bed. And the abuse stays with you even after you get away. It takes time to even start feeling better about yourself.

Great movie! My father was abusive to my mother and my 3 siblings. I swore never to suffer at the hand of an abuser but found myself married to one who bragged about slapping women. He lifted his hand to me when I was pregnant with our son and I smacked him right back leaving him on the floor lights-out. It was then that I decided to leave him. He never touched me in the months to follow but kept on with emotional abuse. The more I did not react the worse it got until one day he came home from work and me and our 6 month old son were gone. Now happily divorced and my son is an upstanding 27 year old young man - nothing like his father (who died when my son turned 10). I will not stand for abuse from any person in any form - least of all against the innocent and defenseless or any animal.

I'm crying and having a panic attack 10 minutes into this. I also got out of an abusive, manipulative marriage when I saw my 3 year old son trying to protect me from his abusive father. The hell of it is, now the kids have to spend time with him without someone there to protect them. And I am still being abused and controlled through the children. The court system does not protect women or children who are victims of abusers.

Bridget, have courage, have faith in yourself. You said you have got out of the miserable situation. Your children will never "emulate" their ignoble (biological) father. They will surely have the resolve to differentiate between righteousness and immorality. They will protect you from the evildoer. There are many social media platforms that are personalized, so you can always connect with your son first in cyberspace then in real life, as he grows up! Look at the bright side---you have someone to look up to ! God bless You and your son!

I remember a story by a pastor in the 1930s about a very slight woman married to a huge male drunk. Everyone knew he beat her up and no one liked it. Anyway, one day, she tied him up while he lay on the bed drunk and when he woke up, she beat him up with a whip. He never beat her up again and everyone, including the pastor, was glad she did it. People stayed out of people's marriages and families back in the day, but people wanted her to leave him. Divorce was not common. You can divorce now, but there are women who stay with physical and mental abuse. I think if you tied him up and whipped him these days, he would sue you and the police would lock you up - even if he regularly beat you up. I suppose they reckon you could leave if you want to rather than beat him up.

Oh Dear God. This was me for 5 years. This was my life. I'm so glad I got out. There were times I thought he was going to kill me. He slapped me, he hit me, he kicked me, he strangled me, he shoved me against a wall, a refrigerator, he broke my foot, my nose, my ribs, black eyes, bloody lips, I had bruises all over my body all the time. He did the unthinkable to me (his wife) He broke dishes, glasses, punched walls, punched his hand through a windshield & broke his hand. He begged, promised & cried on his knees many times that he would stop the violence, it never stopped. I don't wish this on anyone. The first time someone shows you who they are, RUN and don't ever look back. It's not your fault no matter what they say to you. Five years of my life I wish I could forget. After being in several abusive relationships...I vowed to die alone and single. I never get bored, I never get lonely...and I and ONLY I decide when, where, who, how and what I do. I have my kids and grandkids...I give my time to rescues...cats....and I'm happier for it all. You do NOT need a spouse or significant other to be happy as long as you are happy with yourself. And I DO NOT tolerate the abuse of anyone or anything. Life is TOO short to waste it on someone who does not appreciate and respect you. Love yourself, trust yourself...and know your self worth. And have faith in God that HE will lead you down the right path. And if you have days where it seems like God is a little short handed and moving too slow...just keep walking your own path.

One has to ask the obvious question how come it took you so long to learn that valuable lesson? Several abusive partners? Is it that you just thought you weren’t worthy or you simply couldn’t learn a lesson. Thankfully it wasn’t too late for you. I know other silly women who have had multiple abusive partners not necessarily physically abusive but controlling And they always defend them. I have a friend well she is with yet another abusive partner and I’ve just walked away. She never learned her lesson never. Yes, Anna I know I sound judgemental but it just makes me wonder how these victims never learn their lesson.

Many times he cheated on me and he knew I knew. I stayed with him and tried to help him get thru his issues. We had good and bad times together. It was a love/hate relationship. He passed away almost 4 years ago from cancer. I did take care of him while he was ill. I am not in a relationship now, and am alone. Have dealt with many health issues myself since then. I am coping as best as I can with getting older and taking care of my beloved cat. He is my support animal and I love him so much. Taking one day at a time, thats all you can do and try to keep your spirits up. Hope the best for you in the future. Take care. 😊😊😊

The best thing to do is out the abuser as hard as you can; tell everyone who will listen and make it as public as possible. Doing that will take the abuser’s leverage away. Trying to cover it up is what the abuser is hoping for.

The husband is representing a true narcissist. Arrogant, angry, abusive, manipulation, cares about his marriage status in front of others, cares about his business more than family, doesn’t have mercy for others, physical abuse, verbal abuse, mental abuse…..etc. The abuser always finds the empath, and the empath believes him no matter what others tell her until she falls in the trap. And always the empath is a very kind hearted person, she thinks will change or fix him. Honestly no one can change anyone. My advise to unmarried young girls to think million times before marrying someone and don’t love and give the green light until you are sure he is the one, the good one.

One thing I learned is that you don’t shame them or try to make them feel guilty. It’s really hard to leave an abusive relationship; it can sometimes lead to the death of the abused spouse. My mother was in an abusive marriage for 16 years, she told me how she had suffered from her own parents neglect and abuse as if to say that she had no choice. I told her that she subjected us three kids to our father and the situation just as she had been subjected but she didn't see it like that, she only saw her own victimhood. Years later I found myself in an abusive relationship for five years, it was morale and verbal and hateful and each time I left he came to get me, making promises. I even went from Paris to Vancouver via London and he found me. One day I snapped into reality, packed up what little I had ( I wasn't allowed to polute HIS home with my 'stuff' despite me paying the rent and food and costs) and I moved in with a friend and never went back.

Domestic abuse is a deadly cycle that never ends. It begins with insults, shoves/pushes and it ends with your being terrified for your life. Listen to your loved ones & friends who say not to be with a person. They see the truth while you are blinded by rose-colored glasses.

And to all of you guys who haven’t left yet… you can, you will, it will seem like it’s too hard, too difficult, too dangerous to leave but you must! You must choose life! You must choose you! Praying for you all 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 I left…. And yes it’s difficult and embarrassing but staying is worse….

I lived through severe abuse. My husband was the nicest man, until... long story, but the very first time that he laid a hand on me, was to murder me. I never knew that he was hiding many things- I left, restraining orders, charges etc. He walked on a technicality, and that was the start of it all. 22 years later, and it still hasn't ended-stalking, paying people to follow me, hurt me, 15 break ins in the homes that i rented, and lisinf everything over and over, been through 9 cars that mysteriously are ruined. The legal system is no help - no matter where I move-these things DO happen in real life.

If only you knew. If you are not that type of person, you don't think as they do, and you can never out think them, because you have morals. You can only defensively react to what they've done to you- my mail was stolen in January with all of my tax paperwork, my renewed driver's license...so it's become identity theft, too. In the last month, I've been assaulted twice by people I don't know. The police are part of the problem, because they are friends. I'm not from this area. I will now have to change my social security number, I have had to call all agencies ... I will change my name, again.I did once already.. Being married to this man- and his family, his pals, cronies, his school mates from kindergarten even,- just for 3 years, became a life sentence for my daughter and myself. Turns out he had done this before, and his daughter from the first marriage went through a similar ordeal as us- but, the courts never allowed his violent history into our case.

Just started watching this movie and was reading the comments. its heartbreaking that so many people go through this. I've just come out of a 35 year marriage to a narcissist. Any abuse weather it be verbal, physical, emotional even financial, controlling is all abuse. People always say just leave or why does she stay. There are many many reasons why someone stays. Fear, panic, no self esteem, lack of finances, dependant on them, battered wives syndrome, trauma bonding simular to Stockholm syndrome. What ever the reason its usually because over time the abuser has caused you to feel all those things, made you feel your nothing without them, you have been brainwashed into thinking you can't survive without them. I've only been out of my situation for a month now and it is extremly difficult, maybe it takes time to adapt and find yourself again. I am trying to start my own new life now completely alone, its far from easy especally without any support. when someone tells you they are being abused the best thing you can do is tell them and show them that they are not alone because going from an abusive relationship and being completely alone is also difficult. But if i can do it i hope others find the srength to also do it.

I had a male acquaintance who suffered abuse by his wife. I was told by a psychologist friend when I told him, the longer you are in such a relationship, the harder it is to get out, and that often it can take six times (of leaving, getting out) to finally make the break. That man moved out a couple of times, and each time he went back, but he finally made it. By that time he was in his late 60's and broke, but he seemed more relaxed and at piece.
