I'm A Grateful Dead head from 1968 all the way.. I just can't do dead and Company. Honestly there are cover bands that I've heard that are better, and don't misunderstand every musician in the company is excellent..but they are not THE DEAD they should be, And Company

The dead were no saints in their heyday, and I'm not talking about the coke, the heroin, the lucy, or even the booze, but the misogynistic womanizing and toxic masculinity that they and so many other bands of the era perpetuated. Was Mayer a bit bombastic and inappropriate? yes, but that was almost a decade ago, he was a younger man, and dealing with a much bigger world, thrust under a much more invasive spotlight, so to speak, than bands in the 70's had to contend with. But hey, you can't be all things to all people.

@@nickmancinelli5447 You can't please the short-sighted internet hypocrite. Don't you realize they are perfect and know everything? They also can do everything better than anyone and are experts on everything. They also can dial this all in from the comfort of their sofa lol. I believe Jerry would get a kick out of this incarnation, meaning it is consistent with the spirit and ethos of the Grateful Dead, in the sense that it is a bit of incongruous chaos from which some beautiful music does arise periodically. Honestly, besides that, I could care less who Mayer (or anybody else) f'ed 10 years ago, and even less about what other fools think about it.

I'm a life long deadhead. Love the music, love the lyrics, no so much the vocals. The loss of Garcia was a major loss, nobody can play like Jerry, but Mayer is as good or better, though of course different, and NO OTHER BAND has ever realized what it means to have TWO virtuoso drummers, though some have realized bass can play lead. Every band leader needs to listen to the Dead to understand how to value bass, lead drums, and lead guitars. Then we have Weir, also a fine musician but sets the GOLD standard for making a band a family that can fight and argue and still love each other. Deadheads forever, it's the attitude, not the music, but ohhhhh, the music.

RHCP is almost always a one-drummer band, but if you haven't heard them live with John Frusciante in the band then they are also an incredible jam band. Frusciante and Flea and Chad do some magical things and were clearly made for each other despite their individual talents.

Dude I'm high listening to this and reading your comment. I just made it home and still parked outside. Was thinking I should really go to this concert. See some lady I just met during a one night stand on only the second time seeing each other in public invited me to this concert. I immediately didn't even give the idea any thought. Not in the sense of saying no, but just ignoring the question altogether. It literally just went through me. I was distracted at the moment as well, if you know what I mean. But I catch everything, and I really think I disregarded it mainly because of the name of the band. Well today she mentioned it again, and this time through text. So here we am in the evening trying to see what they're all about. Incredible, just incredible. I'm sure I'll have a great time.

That Knocking On Heaven’s Door is just something you cannot recover from. It will break you and mend you a million times. I can’t stop listening. I saw them for the first time in MSG on their fall 2017 tour. I had started listening to their music not long before that so I thought that a live show would be the proper introduction to their music and boy was I right. I went alone because I didn’t know anyone my age who liked their music. I was probably one of the youngest people there. I cannot put it into words how emotional and beautiful it was. The energy was unbelievable. I left the arena feeling so lucky that I had the opportunity to witness greatness of that magnitude.

A long (long, long) time Dead fan, I avoided listening to this latest incarnation. But John Mayer with Dead & Co. is astounding! I will always miss Jerry's sweet voice and sublime guitar, but thank goodness John Mayer stepped in to make sure the music isn't stopping anytime soon. (I don't know how old Bob Weir is, but he's got a new energy with Mayer. And it's awesome.)

I've been grateful enough to see the original Grateful Dead many times in my youth. John will never be Jerry. You do have to give credit where credit is due. John tries to be John and not Jerry. Let Bob shine. There's no doubt that this is a very tight and talented band. Digging this during our C19 summer.

Bobby has made great strides vocally since earlier in the tour. This is IMHO their best show to date. With John I dont see a pop star egotistical boy of his past. Bobby has the intelligence and experience to challenge John and help guide him into maturation. The rest of the band is amazing and blow my mind as well. Please dont stop this organism that is Dead and Company.

Thanks Dead and Company. You know how much we love you and didn't expect something so nice as this gift for the live stream, but then to have 'That' show be the streamed one...it could not have been more special or better. I never thought I could say this, but it was one of my all time favorite Grateful Dead shows....yes, that list is very long, but I have tough criteria and this show had it all. The music was beautiful and hot. The setlist...well, one of those shows with only faves. Encore was exquisite....Bobby what you were playing at the beginning of it was so pretty I started crying, actually during the whole song. Your voice, too, Bob, on Days Between was so beautiful and haunting, I love when you sing those songs. By the way, the other night on Looks like Rain at Shoreline was so freakin' great. Keep singing. Love you all together. O'teill, sing some more. and John, nice falsetto, love it. I'll stop now, it's supposed to be a little reply, but I'm so happy.

Morning Dead and Co. I happened to just stumble on to this last night . I had my acoustic with me at local library front stoop where I was listening.....live. I knew the tunes and started playing and singing right along and noted immediate sneaky little synergistic dragonesque modulations. When I tried playing lead omg with John he backed right off and the band chugged until I passed the ball and John took what I had just played and spun it on Mayer steroids. So we were having straight up musical telepathic communications from WNY to lake wood. I even heard Jerry chime in laughing about wanting to hear the Tons of Steele I had played earlier in the park. Twisted. Go Her. J.

What an absolutely amazing show! Sublime playing & magical throughout. 2nd set just flows and the playing seems effortless......really haven't seen this level of playing since the Jerry days. This was a special show with the band firing on all cylinders. Impressed how on each tour they seem to get better & better. And this Days Between.....beautiful.....had me in tears. Bobby channeling the spirit of Jerry. What a gift this music is!

Anybody that wants to dog John Mayer....just listen to his licks. He is an amazing guitarist. Jerry played diverse types of music. obviously not pop...but please don't put people in a box. If John Mayer had never made a pop album, and he busted onto the scene with these guys, he would be hailed as the second coming. Just let your ears decide if he's talented enough to be the "the guy". Understand that Jerry's shadow is immense. It takes alot of mettle to do it. He's not Jerry, and he doesn't have to be.

I have seen Mayer with the Dead 3 times and once solo. I agree he is awesome. My wife originally got me into Mayer and the more I listen to him I understand the depth of his talent and creativity. I think where he really nails it is the creative side that he adds. He's not trying to be a Jerry clone but rips in his own way; yet he still holds the nucleus of the original song together.

And I would say : stop consider "Pop" as a bad word. That just means "popular". I mean "Rooms To Square" is maybe my favorite Mayer album, because it's a well crafted pop record ! Songs sounds well, lyrics are good, guitar parts are quite amazing and it sounds fresh? What more would I need?

I feel like John and bob share Jerry’s weight now. Bob takes much of the stage presence that Jerry had and has the leader vibe. And John take the axe and does Jerry some serious justice. And John doesn’t stand 10 feet from the microphone when he sings 😂

This band is better than the last 5 to 10 years with Jerry. The music lives on. Songs sound great. Great vibes and everybody in the band seems to be enjoying themselves. O'teil is killing it.
