This is part 5 of a many part series, if you'd like to start at the beginning, here is part 1:
• Dead Eye Versus - Stag...
InRange is supported by viewers like you, and every $1 counts!
/ inrangetv
The first official Dead Eye Match is in the bag, being embedded in CQB Brutality 2024 run at the SUPS range in St. George, UT. This is the third of what will be many "versus" Dead Eye videos in which we discuss and analyze Dead Eye as a match concept, but also our own performance and firearms as well.

This is. THE MOST. ABSURD. Gun drill I've EVER seen. And I love it!

Something about Russel being an incredible shooter but fumbling with the card is very human

Really ups the "thinking fast under pressure" aspect. Even if one never gambles in a saloon, it's a very practical ability to hone.

For you DIY'rs that wants to use a rubber target but doesn't want to spend $75 for the cheapest and smallest target Infinity makes. I bought a 3/4" thick 4'x6' fatigue mat from Tractor supply. Make sure you get the one that has a smooth side or the bullet holes don't show up very well. I cut mine into 6 pieces. Two that are 2'x3' (full IPSC/USPSA size targets) and 4 that are 2'x1.5' (C zone IPSC/USPSA size targets.) I bought an IPSC/USPSA stencil off Amazon to trace the lines onto the rubber with a silver sharpie, and I used a Dremel with a router type bit to cut the IPSC/USPSA target into the rubber. I can paint it multiple times, and the lines still show up. Now it's a lot less expensive I paid $60 for the mat and $22 for the stencil and I ended up with 6 long use targets. I don't think they will last as long as Infinity Targets, but I think they will come close, and I have twice as many targets for the money spent. Side note: don't shoot rubber targets when they are frozen. They don't last very long if you do. 😉

I missed Karl's noshoot, so I was briefly amazed at the difference in rankings for them just being a few seconds apart.

Good lord this would break my brain, even though I set up similar drills for competitive videogaming. The important part here is intentionality and presence of mind - and why Karl had the early advantage over Russell... and then lost it when the gun malfed. The difference between upper skill levels in many hand-eye coordination hobbies is not just the ability to rapidly and reflexively complete your task but also have your brain keep up, keep aware and keep ahead.

I am glad your rifle is zeroed. My Uberti 1873 I had a hard time with. Had to drift the sight over, and it shot 6-8 inches high at 20 yards, and no further lower elevation available. Tried a skinner sight, still not low enough. That is one downside to the 1873 is the limited options of sights, my carbine has the entire front sight attached to a barrel band so its not easy to put a new front sight on. The rear sight is marked out to 900 which is insane, but I can't go any lower. What a shame.

Anyone fan the hammer for that close shot? Seems like one of the very few cases that technique would actually be useful.
