I heard about the “theory” that clowns were inspired by nephilim a while back and always found it silly, but you are proof that any idea can work when somebody with the proper skills puts in the effort. I love the different accessory passes on the giant pair. Also love the idea that humans aren’t the only ones being experimented on and altered. Personally I think that there being a distinction between “dragons” and more mundane animal dinosaurs will make a much more unique and overall stronger story impression than all the dragons looking like something out of Monster Hunter by default. But I’m along for the ride either way.

A bit of research I found was that Seraphim, the six-winged angels in the Bible, are translated as "fiery serpent", so the idea of the Watchers originally being serpentine or draconic in nature is not that far off. In fact, I think making dragons more explicitly magical or fantastical compared to dinosaurs could also be really interesting and helpful in distinguishing them, cause right now I feel the dragon concept can still be pushed a lot more to make them more mutated and "wrong"; extra limbs, eyes, teeth where there shouldn't be - imitations of the divine serpents but within twisted bodies.
@Nunya-k4jАй бұрын
Fun fact… The Feathered Serpents like Quetzalcoatl were not snake-like, they were actually more wyvern like and described as having legs covered in feathers. At some point they were combined possibly with a different myth to be more snake-like but that information was lost. Quetz specifically however was a bird more then snake, being represented by parrots, crows, and Quetzals.

I've always found the tales of the Watchers fascination, many often linked them to the annunaki and other forgotten dieties. But from everything I've read until now, you're the only one who translated the texts " And they began to sin against birds, and against animals, and against reptiles and against fish," perfectly, I love, I mean I LOVE what you did there. The idea of Giant humans and Giant Dinos who are hybrids is really awesome. But there's only one aspect that confused me a bit, the depiction of the Watchers, are the giant creature like Quetzalcoatl also watchers or just hybrids like the animal-Nephelim ? and if it's the case is there like one race of watchers who can shapeshift or are they separate ? I can't wait for next video to learn more about Dead Gods !

the hunter being that big actually takes away from his impact. being as big as the biggest things out there just automatically defines him as a super powerful being, its out in the open and supercedes anything else about him. You look at him and go, well, ya, of course he can take out anything, look how big he is. A god of the hunt need not being enormous, in fact, if he was, say, more akin to the main character (still big, but more average given the size cap of beings here) that, if anything, makes him more terrifying. If he is calm in the face of what seems like overwhelming odds, that tells the audience there's more to him than it might seem, and to have imbued himself with the aspects of a Dragon hint's at even greater power. I would think he should be sleek and serpentine, eerie but graceful, wins not with power, but inhuman ability.
@kurtisdiston4851Ай бұрын
and his hunch can make it even more impactful, because if hes wearing robes at first (think Avatars King Boomy, or the Warcraft movie where the orc necromancer is challenged to a dual) what seems like a gaunt, less intimidating creature stretches out to his full length and suddenly you get a glimpse of his 'true form'

I have constantly worried about the Hunter and his design, but making him a Nephilhim takes this to a whole new level. Also considering that he is driven by the hunt wouldn't a Watcher be his ultimate trophy? Or was he a human who hunted his way up the chain to become what he has become. Love and admiration as usual.

There would pretty much be no way for the Hunter to kill a Watcher, even a weak one. They are spiritual beings with an artificial body. Hey there. Just a thought on an explanation for the larger creatures. The bible mentions a firmament around the earth and that it opened its gates to pour the floods water. This could be interpreted as a larger protective insulator for the atmosphere making it more dense, some even say it was pure water. If it was water it would have blocked UV light to a degree that perhaps aided in lengthening lifespans as there would be less damage to cells from the sun. The flood itself (if primarily coming from a layer of water around earth) would have killed a significant amount of plant life and decreased the land mass. Maybe this helped decrease the oxygen saturation in the air (Which is one of the reasons bugs and perhaps other animals were larger prior to the major extinction events). A denser atmosphere may also help explain larger flying creatures with non hollow bones, much like bees basically "swim" through the competitively dense air for their size. Another thing that has been debated is the fact that only after the flood was Noah "allowed" to eat meat. This conflicts with your shepherd and hunter themes so it may not be relevant, but perhaps the more pious characters being vegetarian could be an interesting idea to explore. Either way. I love the content and am eager to see where this series goes.
@heavybar3850Ай бұрын
They could have eaten meat before the flood since animal sacrafices were performed and sacrafices were usally followed by a meal where only a portion of the animal was offered up.
@mattrhodesartАй бұрын
Yeah, I'm assuming the firmament theory. But before I fully plant a flag there, I'm thinking about how that might effect the look of the sky. I still want "star worship" in some places, and I need to figure out how those two ideas interact.
@kailanerman5090Ай бұрын
@mattrhodesart stars might be more prevalent even. Potentially thousands or millions of years ago the stars may have been brighter or closer as the universe hadn't expanded to the distance it is today And with the extra layer of water hovering over the earth ( "waters above from the waters below" ) it might have caused the sky to be a different color. Perhaps a light purple even, with a more orange/red sun look. This could cause daylight to look like a Pandora-esc twilight hour
@NovaNocturneArtАй бұрын
@@mattrhodesart The Firmament could act like a sky-wide telescope lens perhaps? That would make the stars appear so large and prevalent even to the naked eye that "star worship" almost feels like a given. Such a telescopic effect could also be exploited by watchers on the outside looking in. 👀👀👀
@jath6164Ай бұрын
@mattrhodesart . Another issue is light in general. If it blocks uv enough to lengthen life spans it also blocks most light. Maybe replace water with a combination of gasses created and placed by the watchers to create better, stronger specimens. This still allows for interesting sky colours as @kailanerman5090 suggested.

I like to bear in mind that it's the winners who write history, and *that* so-called history always portrays the winners as maintaining the moral high ground - eg. the noble necessity of the actions of the Roman armies, the behaviour of the English Public Servants in the African colonies (Kenya for one), and anything (gawd, anything at all) that Douglas MacArthur touched during WWII and the Korean conflict. Equally, the social/community constructs that developed/profited on/by that history are typically hyper-protective of the established mythology which they define as *Truth* 😊

We humans as a species have a weird and consistent fascination with some higher/stranger/otherworldly forms of life coming in to breed with us across various cultures and history, don't we? I'd say you have tackled the Nephilim pretty well. I wouldn't exactly call the Grogori/Watchers 'demons.' They were more like angels. Sure, they definitely 'fell,' but I'd say that there is a sort of difference between them and those that fell with Lucifer, or whoever you want to interpret the Devil as being. In that way I'd say Nephilim are more 'half-angels' in place of 'half-demons', not like that makes them any less monstrous, alien or malevolent in their actions and thought processing. But as far as dragons are concerned... Yeah, it sounds about right. Especially with that passage about giants you provided. That fits with the European kind of dragons perfectly. Dragons were creatures in overindulgence. You might think that the dragon will leave you alone as long as you give it stuff. But that only leads to the dragon demanding more stuff. And more. And more. Until you have nothing else to give and so it takes you and anything you have left. All to sate their bottomless hunger, greed and pride. So the dragons being twisted offspring of higher energy beings, devouring everything around them like some unrestrained invasive species, and potentially doing so with genuine evil intent in mind is a pretty good interpretation. I just think that you'll just have to make a difference between the more animalistic and the angelic/demonic dragons. As in the dragons that just devour everything around them like walking forces of nature, and those that simply let the poor souls they terrorize bring the food and wealth to them until the day their slaves fail to measure up.

Bergmann's rule, you might find this helpful in trying to develop an evolutionary reason for why gigantism exists, and it gives you context to the environments that led to that gigantic

I would like the dragons to feel more primordial and elemental like volcano imagery. I dislike the idea of modern dragons but the idea of fantastical dinosaurs is very interesting to me. I’d love to see you take the dinosaur motif as far as possible.

Yeah, in my intro video I explain that the Bible will be my primary reference, but I’ll also use secondary references as long as they don’t contradict the primary.

As someone that had a fascination with mythological interpretations I want to share some things. Firstly one interpretation of Nephelim that makes a lot of sense is that Judaism wasn't made in a vacuum there were other Gods and mythological characters all around. Hercules Achilles and all the other were known of and were against their religion so children of of ffallen divine. Secondly Dragons! In ancient Greece there was a semi mythological man Draco that was the first legislator. He made oral laws into writen with most punishments death. His Draconic laws gave him and all others of his way of thinking an appearance bigger than life but cruel. They became what you call Ogres!! That rabbit hole is wierd imo but true! The first versions of Shrek I saw as a kid had him reffer to him as a Dragon in translated Greek

I like the idea that the 'nephalim' version of the animals should not just be bigger, they should have mixed features: image a t-rex with human arms and hands, capable of fine motor skills? Or a snake with a human mouth capable of speech?

Very interesting stuff! The Old Testament is an incredibly fertile ground for worldbuilding, and you've gone some incredibly interesting places with it. It's particularly interesting to me, since I was recently on a bit of a "giant re-evaluation"-kick, though my inspirations were more from Norse and Celtic mythology, with me eventually tying Giants into something almost akin to Australian Dreamtime: ancient beings so in tune with the very creative potential of the world that their minds are almost out of sync with time, and they're kinda stuck in the ancient past. They still see the world as it once was, and as it could have been, so humans observe giants walking up hills, touching the cliffside, and seemingly disappearing into the mountain, or they lie dead and dreaming as a pile of rocks for centuries until they wake up and reform themselves into a humanoid shape, or they trample down a village with no heed of anything, perhaps following a path that was there thousands of years ago, or maybe could have been. Very different visions!

Ok so…the horned spino is considered a “dragon” and the more blue spino is the natural animal right? Or am seeing it wrong?
