Calling ron in furiten? That's a chombo. Declaring win without a yaku? That's a chombo. Messing up the wall? That's a chombo. Calling riichi without tenpai? That's a chombo. Trying to win with a dead hand? Ooh you'd better believe that's a chombo.

Do you have successful techniques on memorizing all the Yakus? Like how did you remember them when you first started playing?
@LightGrunty
@LightGrunty 6 жыл бұрын
The best thing is practice. When I first started out, I would just stare at a list of yaku to try and memorize it. It's probably easier to just learn them little by little through playing.

Thanks. My set is coming in the mail tomorrow so I will do that. In the meantime I am making a quizlet set.

just make the 9000 IQ play of intentionally paying out the chombo at draw, just so your opponents don't know what your wait was and won't get free info to read you with later.

I was Oya and became distracted in the opening draw and took 16 cards instead of 14. Other players did not draw but called a chombo on me. Was this instead a dead hand for me, and remaining players then each draw one card to complete their 13 cards for a starting hand and game continues with me playing a dead hand?
@LightGrunty

Penalties in cases like these depend on the rule set. A chombo is common for an error like that, but a more lenient rule set might make it a dead hand.
@Kamoleplace

After reflecting, I think combo is appropriate as drawing 16 cards by oya really alters proper tile selection of other players@@LightGrunty

Today the oya had a combo hand and after paying the other ko players, does the oya keep the deal (east position) or does the deal rotate?
@LightGrunty
@LightGrunty 2 жыл бұрын
The deal does not rotate. The hand is redone without adding any honba.

Thanks. Also, after a combo all riichi bets are returned, except bets from previous rounds, correct?@@LightGrunty
@LightGrunty
@LightGrunty 2 жыл бұрын
@@Kamoleplace Correct. The round is treated as if it had never occurred, including returning the riichi bets from that round.

Does the game end in a draw if on the last draw, player A makes a kong? Player A can not draw from deadfall. Does player A have to discard a tile?
@LightGrunty
@LightGrunty 2 жыл бұрын
If there are no tiles left in the live wall, no player can declare a kan.

@@LightGrunty Got it--no kong, but player drawing last card must discard, correct?
@LightGrunty

@@Kamoleplace Yes, the player who draws the last tile must discard a tile.

we have a discussion about "should riichi player show his correct tempai in case of abortive draw". What do you think? Some players insist that they should only in case of 4 riichi draw, I think that it will be more correct in case of any type of abortive draw... Proofs from japaneese source will be useful.
@LightGrunty
@LightGrunty 8 ай бұрын
I have no strong opinion about this and cannot easily find a reliable Japanese source that would rule one way or another. Abortive draws are not commonly used in IRL competition rule sets, so there are no sources to reference on that front.

Would getting chombo multiple times in a game be called a chombo combo?

let's say i have a dead hand, can i chi, pong, kong? Do i need to declare i have a dead hand to other players?
@LightGrunty
@LightGrunty 6 жыл бұрын
If you have a dead hand, you are not allowed to make any calls at all. As for whether or not you need to declare that you have a dead hand, it's a little big ambiguous. For things like having too few or too many tiles, you or your fellow players might not even notice it. If you make a calling mistake as shown in the video, then it will be obvious to everyone that you have a dead hand, if the people with whom you play choose to enforce that rule.
