The problem when your name gets out that you're a top class technician, is you get the hacked jobs that no one else can solve. But, you can't run a profitable company spending hours on a repair when a replacement device is available at a cost close to the repair bill. Your honesty is exemplary.

Love that home made tool for attaching the power supply to the board without having to remove the board. Also no risk of damaging the battery connector. I’m definitely going to be using that idea from now on. Great video Jason.

That’s the trouble with being a goto guy for the difficult jobs! You made a good decision, if there is little chance of fixing it in reasonable time (or at all!) it’s best to call it BER and move on!

Your videos have helped me out before, I saw the exact same fault with 20% Failure at 3Utools with the same model just last week. I too thought it was probably a NAND failure or something but client was not concerned about data so I for the hell of it tried the Anti-Recovery Flash mode in 3Utools - it went through and iPad working normally again. Just in-case you didn't already try this option you might want to give it a go.

A little tip when unscrewing the plate over the lcd connecters... use a little crosshead bit that goes into the end of multi ended screw driver... there's enough grip to turn it with your fingers and causes a lot less stress on them lcd cables

Don't know if you had set it up but after you said "want to see what happens when you connect this to a computer right" at 10:00 KZbin played an ad. The timing was perfect. Connecting iPad to a computer causes an ad to play.

Wow, the ad timing is entirely done by a computer! I could choose the timing by hand but I only enabled monetization with their default settings. Also after KZbin finished checking this video, they suggested a new title that was based on words I said in the video! "Dead iPad Pro from Indonesia - Can I fix it?" is what they suggested.

I know the pain. I used to repair JDM car dash clusters and touch screens for about 20 years, but in the final few years so many clusters and screens came with failed prior repairs that I had to give up...

I had few cases when one of top ribbon causing a problem like you have. Try to run this iPad with unplugged top flexes from mainboard.

Maybe you should make it a policy - if someone has already tried to repair the thing and didn't succeed, you charge by hour and material. Because in such cases the chance for success goes way down, if it was something trivial the person before you would probably have fixed it, plus there's additional risk of that person making even more damage.

Time is a killer if you have commitments. ie, you need a quick way to know if it's feasible. Unfortunately from what I see, a quick swap of ID-ed chips to another MB would save time, but then you would have to charge extra for the new MB, ie, probably costs the same as faffing about with the original MB. Even though this is a quick way to know if it's worth fixing, if you go back to the original MB you have to solder the chips back off and on again - ouch! -. The only way I can think of doing it quickly is have a pogo-pin adaptor iPad you can drop/clamp the chips on to, like ABD's ziff socket C64. This saves the solder off, on, off, and on again, plus you need to re-solder anything someone else has attempted anyway. Someone needs to invent a chip tester like they have in the retro computer world - lol -. Me personally, I would attempt it - it would niggle at me -, but I don't have commitments.

Thanks. I'm a life-long Linux user but recently switched my bench from Windows. That's Debian 11 with Xfce. No fancy distro here :D In trying to use it for recording, I've ran into typical linux problems with graphics and hardware compatibility. For instance, the Logitech Brio will do 60fps only sometimes and when 60fps @1080 is an option, it can also do 4k @ 30. For some reason it is falling back to USB 2 and I'm not sure what the determining factor is yet. Not a deal breaker! Plus I was expecting such nonsense & can probably fix it.

This is nothing new, going back 40 years to much more simple stereo systems in the 80s if I saw a lot of soldering had been done on a solid state board it was usually an impossible fix. You had to fix the last person's screwups before you could even begin to repair it. Good call, this would have been a nightmare. I'm old enough to remember when people would pull the tubes out, take them to a drug store for testing, then put them back in the wrong sockets. Those were still repairable because the tube stereos and TVs could handle abuse, but modern electronics cannot.
