Happy bday. I always did like the Jaws series. It had a simple plot to follow and the villain of the movie was easy to identify. Unlike other movies, the villain in this series doesn't go off in a tangerine and monologue, explaining his complex plan or be predictable. The movie is basically man versus nature. The movie, even tells you this isn't the first time the shark or sharks have attacked oh, so it's hard to tell if the previous attacks were by the same shark or not. I think this makes this movie A Timeless classic, worth multiple re-watches.

RE: Shark motivation, The Shallows: the shark was shown to have a rusty hook in its mouth, implying that it might have a tetanus infection, which might have made the shark act crazy, not eating for sustenance, but killing out of blind rage. I have no idea if tetanus does that to animals, but an infection could explain its behavior.

In defense of The Meg, I agree that it was sort of not able to find itself a niche but if they just took the novelization of The Trench by Steve Alten then it'd be a lot less action and not as fun for casual audiences. The novel had more exposition and character development than the movie but with that being said that doesn't make for a good movie in some cases like 2014's Legendary Godzilla, it focused too much on the human characters that were not that memorable the only ones I remembered were Bryan Cranston's character of Joe Brody and Ken Watanabe's portrayal of Dr. Serizawa and they weren't even the main character which was I had to look this up believe it or not Aaron Taylor-Johnson's character of Lieutenant Ford. 2014 focused on characters more than the actual star of the movie Godzilla; much like how The Meg didn't focus on what it truly was which was a sci-fy thriller because if it focused more on that beach scene like Jeremy said then the movie may have been a bit more enjoyable to the more inclined audience like yourselves. I enjoyed it for what it was a giant shark movie with comedic twists, yes I will agree that The Meg isn't the best shark movie but I feel it deserves a lot less scrutiny than what it got. Sorry for ranting just wanted to say something, if Josh reads this even after 2 months hi new to your side of youtube and think that your content is really good and honestly if I weren't so shy and more inclined to do social things then I'd love to show up if you wanted to do a ranking of something, just say something if you want I just wanted to say my piece on the meg.

For the inquiring minds, the my hat is like a Shark's fin line in the Deep Blue soundtrack is recycled from LL Cool J's hit song "I'm Bad" where he says: "They call me 'Jaws,' my hat is like a shark's fin.". So LL is a Jaws fan too.

Real disappointed by the shitting on The Meg. Theres been like 3 good shark movies since Jaws itself came out and The Meg is one of them. It's a movie about a Megalodon. Sure they could've done a little more craziness with that idea but it literally was the definition of a movie that knows exactly what it is and what is is is a much higher quality of campy cheese than Jaws 4 is. Seriously. I grew up watching Jaws. You'll never convince me the 3rd and 4th movies are anything more than a torture method bordering on violating the Geneva Convention.

God, I laughed so much over that The Reef reveal. All right, my rankings in parenthesis: Jaws: The Revenge (4): I'm starting to realize my fellow voters aren't that into so bad its good films. This film is a blast. And what can I say, it kind of ticks my 80s nostalgia box. Jaws 3-D (8): Coked out Dennis Quaid was kind of amusing but otherwise I was pretty bored with this. 47 Meters Down (9): Pretty dull. Just a general weak effort. The Reef (6): Some pretty photography but nothing special. Open Water (7): I was really torn on this. There's some bits that I thought were really effective and other stuff that I was thought was embarrassingly bad. I was also bored for a lot of it. The Meg (Dead Last): God, I hated this movie. Genuinely one of the most miserable dead last experiences I've had. Just not a movie that's made for me. Deep Blue Sea (3): Deep Blue Sea is fun. Jaws 2 (5): Was kind of surprised by how bad Jaws 2 is. I rewatched it right after Jaws and the quality really careens off a cliff. Far from the worst film on this list but pretty mediocre in my opinion. The Shallows (2): Having not heard of this I was surprised by how much it stood out from the pack. It's not a great film (I gave it 3 stars on Letterboxd) but there's just so much more thought and effort that was put into it than most of the other films we watched. Maybe it's weak to praise a movie for doing the bare minimum but a lot of these movies didn't so I think it earns the second place. Jaws (1): I don't love Jaws as much as some but it's a great film and none of these other films come anywhere close to it. My very lukewarm critique of the film is that I like the first half more than the second half because I'm a horror fan, not an action movie fan but we're talking about a pretty minor difference in enjoyment. All in all, this dead last isn't too far off my opinions. I'd say I liked Jaws: The Revenge more than most and The Meg much less than most.

i can see thinking that jaws the revenge is terrible, but i can't see thinking that it's not a blast to watch.

i always tell people to just rank however they like. like, use whatever criteria that you see fit for your own list, so i get it if they're just going off of total quality. i'm definitely realizing that there's a strong distinction between horror fans that like HORROR, like straightforward horror, and fans of cult films in general, including horror, like "so bad it's good" stuff.
