I used to live in Reidsville, and still visit yearly for family. This place was a dump in the late 90s and it's only gotten worse. Literal holes in the roof that water pours through when it rains. Interesting to see Bob Adams Florist is still in that building as they have been there forever. I guess there's enough older people in Reidsville that keeps the Belk afloat. I remember going into Roses in 2007 and seeing extremely faded Sega Genesis cartridge port cleaners dating back to 1993 displayed prominently on an aisle endcap. Funny too, that little fighter jet ride was something I rode on when I was 4 (I'm 38 now). The roof is by far the worst part of the building, and the mold is atrocious.

I've lived in Reidsville my whole life and it's a shame what this has turned into. I remember in the mid 90s it was still a fun place to be. Even had an arcade and a comic book shop. And I'm not sure how many times, but in the 90s they actually had a small fair with rides in the Belk side parking lot. I have alot of happy memories there. And to add to the sadness a bit, right behind it is what used to be a Winn Dixie that has been vacant since it closed down. I wish someone could do something with that whole area but I doubt that'll ever happen.

The Eden Mall finally has closed, and has been converted into a large consignment antique store where Belks used to be, some unrented office suites in the middle, and a granite countertop manufacturing company where K-Mart formerly was. I don't think malls can even exist today, due to changing customer needs and Walmart and Amazon offering the same things at much lower prices. I remember when the Eden Mall first opened, with three large department stores, four jewelry stores, two toy stores, one cafeteria, and around five shoe stores. The mall even had a store that sold nothing but cameras. The mall was doomed from the start, because it was "more mall than a small town really needed."

Pennrose Mall used to be so fun as a kid in the 80’s. Peanut Shack was my favorite because it was the only place I could get an Icee😂 so many memories. Belks used to have people modeling clothes out in front of the store. That empty glass case to the left of Belks was used by a local photographer Tim Talley to display his work. I used to shop at Jewel Box for my mom or a date in High School. They would decorate the mall for Christmas and the Christmas parade would start in the parking lot. They had the best Santa for many years. Wow, just a flood of memories. Thanks for sharing

Great video!! Thank you for the work you do in preserving history on some of the things we once cherished in our lives like our shopping malls. I much rather shop in malls versus online shopping. There’s no greater way to shop than trying on clothes, shoes, smelling perfume, looking at physical media forms like books, music, movies, games, and actually eating inside a building with people around. To me there’s nothing in comparison. Like most everyone here, there’s a bit of nostalgia growing up walking through these concourses and corridors. Thank you for your videos.

Great video! I have to say, the shots showing the lit up part of the mall leading to the dark parts was so unsettling. Here in the Dallas area, many of the malls I grew up with are getting "re-imagined" as shopping centers or fancy apartments. It's fascinating from the perspective of a former 80s kid that so many malls are still standing even though they are abandoned.

Photographed this mall a few years back when I started doing urbex (sadly haven't been up to exploring over the last year and a half) and found this place while looking in the vicinity of Eden (which has/had its own urbex treasures). When I was there most of the lights down the main stretch either didn't work or were off, which made it eerie, but seeing it at night is somehow creepier.

I went there in January for the first time in over a decade. I was walking around and another guy I knew was there doing the same thing. That little hut you asked about was the peanut shack. They had icees, different kinds of nuts, popcorn, some of the best chocolates you ever had, chocolate covered pretzels, etc. I was sad to see it go. I was born in ‘81 and it was busy up until around ‘97. My first job was at roses at 16. Bob Adams florist was there since I remember in the 80’s. There was a good arcade where the gambling is now and every Saturday it was full of kids. Afterburner was where I wasted the most quarters. I think roses was a better store in early 90’s then they turned into a dollar store. Years back they made a comeback and opened new stores. The chain has been sold a few times since the early 90’s. There was a rite aid or some drug store in the mall. Strader’s shoes has been there since I can remember. I’m surprised the mall is even open. We’d hang out there as teens then people in Reidsville started going to Carolina circle mall near Greensboro or the four seasons mall to hang out. It’s depressing to see the condition and it hit me realizing how old I am now. When I was a kid around Christmas it was packed. As teens we’d hang out in the parking lot at night sometimes. I can’t understand why they didn’t fix the roof before it got that bad when there’s places still open. Maybe if they’d fixed it some small businesses would be there. I was surprised when I seen the image. Thanks for posting.

LOL...Generally speaking, the people in Reidsville are really nice and polite. Surprisingly, a lot of Reidsville businesses look completely dead outside but are actually full of people when you go in. It's anticipated that the current conversion of Route 29 to Interstate 785 is going to bring in a lot more industry. In the past, a lot of major companies have decided NOT to break ground on new facilities because Reidville was not located on an Interstate. I'm pretty sure my neighbor just purchased one of the adjoining buildings and turned it into a climate-controlled storage facility.

It doesn't blow my mind that the Reidsville mall still exists. I can't speak of Reidsville itself since I've never been there, but I have been to Chesterfield, just outside of Morganton. There's some areas like that where a mall like this is pretty much a requirement to have for locals because otherwise, there's not much in the way of shopping unless they want to go out of town with a drive of a half hour or more, and that'd be a one way trip.

We used to go there quite a lot on Sundays after church. I grew up down the road a little bit in mcleansville. Crazy to see the inside after all these years.

Thanks for calling out the property owner! If anyone is looking for more places to film, visit their website…. Looks like the portfolio has lots of old, run down properties that have never been updated for great content!

Hello again, Ace, from a fellow Buffalo Niagara guy. Definitely a zombie mall. Half alive, half dead. I'm very surprised that there is essentially no dividing line between what is falling apart and what is still essentially open. Definitely a different set of standards down there or at least in this area. Please keep us updated on this one! I love all of your videos. This is pretty much the only Dead mall video channel I go to.

Great video Ace! This place is treasure. It really takes me back to the old malls I grew up with in the 90's, incredible atmosphere. I don't know if you had them on the east coast, but all of the old malls out west had Ben Franklin and Woolworth.I really feel like this place reminds me of that kind of mall :) Thanks for this video.

This mall, theres one nearly identical down the road in Eden, NC and not far is a sad mall in Danville, VA. I live in this region and the only real mall around us is in Greensboro, NC.
