Appreciate this, strange to hear it being talked about in past-tense in some ways, even though it's not quite dead it's still not the hub it seemed to be a while ago. Remember people showing up early to do laps for exercise before the swarms of younger people showed up to socialize or whatever. Still remember that floor pattern :) A lot of what you're seeing now is post a few big renovations back when things were booming. Also seems like there are lot fewer sales booths, those used to be between stores in the walkway areas with like sunglasses and other small things. Wonder if the rent costs have dropped...

Nice cinematic shots @8:24 Glad you got the video up! Also cool to see the pics of the older version of the mall in the 60s!

I worked at Northtowner restaurant lounge in the 1980's & believe it or not had underground tunnels everywhere but when Northtown Mall changed I don't know if they blocked all the tunnels & Spokane Washington has lot of tunnels underneath it don't know if it was from the Civil war era where they used tunnels for slaves to escape etc.

@@geno1825 woo cool yeah, I think the tunnels connect from the Davenport Hotel to the Old Spaghetti Factory! Perhaps used during prohibition

Thanks for posting this. It brings back memories. I lived in Spokane and worked near that mall from 1991 to 2003. I remember when it remodeled, then remodeled again adding the movie theaters and Barnes and Noble. JC Penney is the only anchor that has been there the longest, but what amazes me is Taco Time and A&W were in the original food court. A&W is very rare these days. I think Champs has been there for a while as well. I love that you mention the floor because that hasn't changed since the early 90's. Keep the dead mall videos coming! I'm kind of addicted to them.

You guys are too young to know but, in the 90s and early 2000s the elevator went to the basement. That's where Bumpers Fun Center was. It was a kid and teen hangout zone. Big arcade, DDR, 18 hole mini golf, bumper cars, and a area to order food, eat, and several pool tables with bar-type lighting and music. It was pretty popular with teens.... until it wasn't anymore. Unsupervised fun for kids where parents figured it was safe enough. When I was in middle school and early high school (graduated 2002) the mall was a place to be. Tons of teens walking around, eating in the food court, going to Bumpers. In the same manner teens drive around, meeting up in parking lots now, we went to the mall and stayed all day Saturday, meeting up with friends and new friends from other schools. Back then the anchor stores were Bon Marche (what Macy's used to be called), Sears, Mervyn's (where Get Air is now) and JC Penny's. Montgomery Wards was there originally, but ended up moving down Division to the Franklin Park strip mall (now replaced by a failing Burlington Coat Factory). The Cole's store was built later along with the entire wing it's in containing 3 major chain restaurants. There was a Chillis next to the old Macy's but that closed too. You used to be able to walk all the way around the north end just like all the otjer sides, until they put in the aquarium and they needed more space and outside access for deliveries and utilities. Northtown Mall is no longer seen as a good shopping option or hangout for locals.

I really miss those big MALLS from the 1980's an 1990s. Back then, the MALLS were a great meeting spot for a variety of groups: The younger set, the older set, working people trying to shop after work, etc. That's pretty much all gone. Sad. I think that the hub for Americans to gather, sort of in a "Center of Town" place is gone. We have lost that human connection. And when the Malls shut down, that was a marker for the loss of our Community spirit.
