Folks like watching older off the road car revivals because it is something that a lot of folks can do unlike driving or owning a $100,000 super car. There is something satisfying about bringing an older car, clock, watch , appliance back to life.

As others have said, this type of project works on your channel. Without blowing smoke up your exhaust, you are a very decent amateur mechanic, so you can get these old cars running without a fully kitted out workshop or an Ed China type "helping out". Also, who doesn't like a Mondeo? Pronounced "Mon-day-oh" of course but a woman I once knew pronounced it "Mon-dee-oh" which for some reason stuck in my mind. So here's to the Mon-dee-oh getting back on the road! 😁

Citroen started the standard fitment of AC with the Xantia in the mid nineties. I had a 97 Xantia SX which came with ‘Air conditioned luxury’ on a rear window sticker as a brag! This is without doubt a great new angle to the channel. The Mini is fab and can't wait to see that over time, but I really love the Mondeo - a true modern classic now and definitely one to save!! Especially one that has obviously been loved and abandoned. The velour seats are decadent. Seat materials of the 80s and 90s was so much more hard-wearing than modern materials - even my mid 00s leather is a pain and shows its age. The newer stuff is proving to be very weak indeed. I can very confidently say that I'm sure I am not the only one was on the edge of my seat anticipating the start of a 90s Mondeo which to me is far and beyond more exciting than seeing a supercar being flung around a track. Keep up the execellent work Matt and bring us more rare and humdrum motors!!

Good luck getting the ac to work. Also, you might want to replace the cabin filter as my old Mondeo when I bought it had moss growing out of it! It's under the wipers on the bonnet area. You have to take the plastic trim thing off and it's a pain but makes a big difference to the comfort levels.

Also, if there's a fuel filter under the car. I remember getting that replaced on all my Mondeos and it made a difference. It seems to get forgotten about and can block up. I'm guessing they're cheap being Ford and maybe worth changing when you do the fuel pump.

Great video - as was part one. I really like Mondeos (I still have a very nice Mk3) and as Mk2s are becoming increasingly rare, I think you have a classic car on your hands there. Your video really shows how good Ford interiors were built, and I was amazed how good the paintwork is under all that dirt. I wonder, what is it like underneath? Really looking forward to part three - hope it starts! I hope whoever buys it will further restore it and keep it as a classic car. Hopefully we'll see it at shows. Cheers. Vivian

How good Ford interiors were built were being the right word there. The Dad had a MK 3 Mondeo horrible car horrible quality inside but well built. It was built like a tank. Then he had an S-Max and well that was not put together so good inside parts of the armrest between the seats coming off. Then he got a C-Max and it was a bit better but there was still some lose bits on it.

The bonging noises are the “fasten your seatbelt” warning. I’ve got a Ford Cougar (a mk2 Mondeo in a party frock) that does the same thing. If you push the seatbelt release in while turning the key it’ll confirm this, as that’ll make it stop. All independent of any alarm or immobiliser, and nothing to worry about in this case. My Cougar makes six bongs if you start it without your seatbelt on, then the bonging stops if left to it’s own devices. I’d imagine this car does the same.

I worked on repairing these when they were new, the LX was a pooular spec for hire and reps cars. They should have a red master key to program spares, and two red chip insert keys from new. You should be able to get a spare key cut and cloned cheap enough on the High St. Ford do lock tumbler repair kits to replace a worn or damaged barrel. The hexagon end of the key has 6 cuts and they match up to 6 tumblers, coded 1to4. The key code is easy to read by the depth of the 6 cuts on the key. Only higher spec cars had remote button keys as standard. The ignition barrel has a receiver behind the cowl to detect the chip in the key. People do chop the red chip off a worn key and clip it to a new cut key if you don't want to pay for a full cloned key. The door handle barrel has a switch to activate the central locking, they do fail but switch cleaner usually revives them. Air con started to be standard fit on the LX from the mid 90s. The fuel flap should release by a lever beside the front seat they do have an emergency release too, tucked away behind the boot trim, my year 2000 LXTD estate had it. If you look it up, there is a way to test the factory alarm and locking system etc, by blipping the rubber alarm button on the bonnet slam panel. It should run the test sequence when all opening panels are closed, and just the bonnet is open.

Took one on a family camping holiday from Yorkshire to Lake Garda and back again, full of family camping gear, it never missed a beat, even through horrendous summer thunderstorms. If it is a Bissell Spot Pro I use one as a Pro Valeter and highly recommended as the best or top 3 machines on the market and far superior to the industrial hire type. I reccomend a foaming cleaner and a hogs hair brush 1st on carpets and seats or even an APC. Press microfibre onto stains once treated and smooth the cloth then peel back as the microfibre will wick the stains into the cloth. As mould can get into foams and below fabric level, adding an antifungal or using an antifungal shampoo in your cleaner will prevent re occurrence. Usually I say use as little water as possible but with jobs like this it is impossible to avoid lots of water. Multiple extractions over 2 says with the machine but also trays of catlitter and salt or moisture traps will help. Heat not so much as it causes shrinkage, removing wet carpets will also cause problems when refitting with shrinkage.

She is going to clean up really nicely Matt, certainly looks like it was well looked after in the past. Have you dared slip your fingers under the carpet in the front foot wells? One problem I discovered on my car was water trapped under the carpet, it rotted small parts of the floor on either side. I knew nothing about it because the carpets are totally waterproof, thus they never even felt damp on the top side of the carpet. But underneath the thick sound insulation was soaked through. On the passenger side it was due to the seal between the pollen filter housing and the bulkhead had perished and cracked, and the drivers side was due to the actual sealant used to seal the body joints drying out. Mine was built in 1997, hopefully they had changed the body sealer used by the time they built yours. Mine got to about 20 years old then seams all over the car started to leak - the roof seam underneath the black roof trims leaked, then the joints around the boot went. Whatever they used just dried out and shrunk with age. Really hope you don't have the same issue.

I personally buy premium, however, There is nothing wrong with budget tyres, just drive on them accordingly. They are perfectly safe if the cars is driven sensibly and within the law.
