I stopped at 17 minutes in - the outcome of this video was obvious (to me) the moment we saw the internal rust through the engine oil filler! At least other KZbinrs actually take on viable projects they know can be turned round in slow managed stages and film the progress. Not 2 hours of "Can I get it to Run" when the answer is no - it needs a rebuild quite clearly at 17 mins. I'm sure it's great entertainment for those in the comments who are casual observers of the classics world, while people who actually own or have owned these classics in recent times know what must be done. This needed to be a shorter more succinct video otherwise it drags it out unnecessarily.

May I give you a safety suggestion. When pulling any car onto your trailer try not to stand anywhere near to the wires pulling, as they have a tension on them which if they snap, they will do you serious damage and could well end up with you losing a leg. You may say "I'm not bothered", but believe me when a wire snaps it can whip in any direction at extremely high speed and any flesh in the way will not stop it from doing it's thing and even if it doesn't chop your leg off it will break it and believe me it is painful. From a concerned youtube subscriber.

It's torture, especially at weekends. Yourself, hubnut, furious driving, flawless cleaning, life by living etc, do alot to cheer me up, make me laugh, inspire me to service my car, basically keep me going until, Jesus or WW3 or grim reaper turns up. What a shame, this is one of the very last Austin 1300's in the very popular Harvest Gold. As soon as I saw this car, I thought there would be a lot of work. The very fact it was sitting so close to the ground in an open shed gave me great concerns. Rear sub frames were the first thing to go on these cars, even the tidy ones. it used to be a miserable job changing the sub frame on these cars as nuts and bolts were so rusty under them. The radius arms often needed new bearings too, because there were no greasing points. Get a nice one and you have a lovely little car. The ride never deteriorates with age, but the gearbox synchro's on 3rd gear used to wear on them. At the very least this car would make a great donor for someone, but I hope it survives.

What a brilliant example of the difference between indoor and outdoor storage. Both cars are the same model and age, kept in the same place for about the same time, both on dirt. One is saveable, one is toast. I never believed the people who told me that outside storage was better for a car.

Face it. This thing is dead. Even if the engine frees up, so what? It's an A series engine. They're not exactly rare. And the body is gone. The only thing good on this car is the interior, windows and a few trim pieces. You need to know what battles are worth fighting and which aren't. This isn't one.

What an amazing channel you've created. Your content is on point and has gotten me through many a night shift. You've connected with your viewers with the cars you've chosen to bring back to life, I love a modern classic. Well done ! Keep pumping them out, and I'm sure you'll have a long-standing successful career on KZbin and further afield.

New Subscriber love the video my 1st car that a brought for £60 in the 70s was a Ford Anglia it was made in 1955 and I kept it running for about 5 years then sold for £10 to a guy that restored it happy days when I could even change the bushes in the stater motor myself 😇

I had a J plated one of these in Old English White as my first car. Loved it, it had a long speedo. Love your video and honesty in your approach to trying to save it. You now have a new subscriber.

A 1973? Thats the year of my birth. If you work your magic on this one, I want it! It would make a fantastic American car!

Nice one on getting it back to the work shop, shame that A series engines seized, but at least it would make a great parts car, as you say that interior is worth its weight on its own. Years ago when i worked, for shit hole ( asda) an elderly couple was in shopping, and they had one in that colour, it was mint! The lads didn't know what it was haha, i was the only one out of them who did. I had a good look around it, and spoke to the bloke, he said its never been restored at all, and it was in daily use still. They must have had it for years! I spoke about the suspension side of things, as i was rocking a rover metro at the time. It was a real treat seeing one been used, as a daily. Also i have seen a few of them at our local classic car show too, but again that was years ago when i was last at a show. I often wondered if this was these were the " Austin Metro" of the 70s.

I loved this! It looked so hopeless at the start and it ended up being a lost cause, but the tenacious journey to try and revive this car was an enjoyable roller coaster ride with a tragic ‘old yeller’ ending 😢. Loving your channel Ben and find myself ticking the days off to Fridays (well more so than any normal working week 😂).

Ben, I used to live next to an elderly lady with one of these, I think that was on an L plate too. I used to do basic maintenance on it and and give it an occasional run out. Like all the other A Series gearbox-in-sump cars it was hampered by only having 4 gears, 50mph was a comfortable speed! I'm a little surprised that they used a side mounted radiator like the Mini when there appears to be space to bring it forward - although electric fans weren't commonly used then. I remember the rather crude hardboard shield that kept the leads and dizzy dry, I'm guessing this was a BL mod. fitted on later cars. Keep on bringing us these cars mate.
