Dead Poets Society is the only movie I have ever seen that has truly had a real impact on my life. I think what it makes me feel is too intense even to describe in words, it just touches my soul and fills it with hope and dreams. We all have a teacher who has marked us, and for me that is Mr Keating. I always wanted to be a writer and if it weren't for him, I would have buried that dream and right now I would be studying Chemistry and Biology to become a doctor and wondering what I did wrong so that nothing makes me happy. This is beautiful, thank you for that

That look in Neil’s eyes when he said “I was good…I was really good” my heart sank to my stomach. Him opening the window and looking out and taking a deep breath, he’d knew that was his only way of truly being free.
@c1nber3llA17 күн бұрын
"But only in their dreams, can men truly be free: 'twas always thus, and always thus shall be." his only way of being truly free was for him to kill himself, because even in his dreams he was still trapped: haunted by his father and the burden of his everyday life

The sad reality is that for as great as this movie is it seems like so many ppl ignored the blatant, in your face message that is spelled out left, right and center. Every bit of of it are lessons to live your life by, and how the world will try to bottle you into just being another number. So many ppl need to sit down and literally take to heart every word of this movie. Memorize it and have it burned into your subconscious for the rest of your life. I will admit that I've only recently discovered this myself, as for the longest time I only viewed this as some obscure work with Robin Williams starring in it. How painfully wrong I was...and after everything that has happened to me in the last few months from having to find a new job to my wife leaving, I don't think I've ever found a piece of media that reminds me so much of what is worth living for.

Just the title says so much, dead poets society. Think about how much it applies to our real life, anyone who has ideas and the heart, the voice to change the world and how people think always end up getting murdered and or die somehow. Evil is very prevalant in our world. The kindness and hope to change us is getting silenced one by one.
@Pee23517 Жыл бұрын
This is such a painful watch. The first time I watched it years ago I got to the main event and I almost threw up and had a panic attack. I felt so bad because my family was so into it. At first they were annoyed and said it’s almost over let’s just finish it but then I cracked and told them it reminded me of a death of a friend and a time I don’t like to think about. Stories are insanely impactful, and this story tears my guts out every time. The world is scary and young people need an honest hand to hold. Fiction can be so real man wtf

Neil’s father didn’t pull the trigger, but he 100% killed his son. And why? Just because he wanted to be a stage actor and not a doctor. And, what’s more? He had *NOT* a single regret about what he had said to him, but because his chances of living vicariously through Neil were gone!!!!! His chance of using his son as a meal ticket were destroyed.
@ahunter99 Жыл бұрын
I truly love this movie to my very core. After watching it the first time with my friend I took in the emotion, the message, the beauty, and after watching it the second time with my parents I began to apply it to my life based on the comments they made. My parents are just like Neil's and in a way I'm very similar to him. I have dreams (Acting, writing, singing/music) and my parents want me to work on school, get only A's, be in the highest level of classes, go to collage, and they say that they want me to be successful, but when I tell them what I want to do with my life they think it's a waste. That if I'm not doing what they want me to do, it's never going to be worth it in the long run.

It's just my favorite movie of all time and you reminded me how much I love it, so thank you for that. There are some movies in your life that, when you watched them, leave an everlasting impact on you, and Dead Poets Society is definitely one of them. I was 7 when I saw it for the first time, and I haven't been able to get it out of my head since then. But that's ok, because this movie is pure poetry, beauty and love and "these are what we stay alive for."

Mr. Keatings philosophy and view on life and literature have somewhat shaped my own perspective on literature, life and teaching. I read the novel and saw the movie for the first time when I was 16, I am now 34, I am myself a teacher now and I too teach literature and language. And I think that the novel, the movie and Mr. Keating made an impact on my journey and my daily teachings. Thank you for this wonderful tribute.
