Your Queen didn't go back to box, you can see her at 9:06 on bottom left corner of frame. The suspense is killing me lol Great video

Yeah I saw that. Thought I would leave it to the community. Well spotted.

@cheryleesbees I saw it as I was only looking at that corner, if I'd was looking somewhere else, I would've missed her. The white spot made it easier. I never mark the Queen, and maybe that's why I completely miss her lots of times. 🤔🤓

Hi there. I had the same thing with one of my hives. I found a dead queen outside, but the existing, marked queen was still in the hive and no queen cells. It was an odd one.

You're right about the frames these days. I only make my own boxes and nail my frames together now. Any box coming from 'special sales' are pathetic low quality timber. I buy my marine ply from a local mob now. It's heavier, but a similar price to Bummings rubbish as well. An air stapler for the frames doesn't do the job either. To be safe, I put three brads on each end. One on top, and two on the sides. Nothing worse than pulling out a frame that comes to bits.

Its possible the bees decided to supercede for some reason and then changed their mind. Ive found queens outside of the hive with their entaurage, then return and start laying. Still so much thats a mystery. Possibly decided to swarm, decided against it due to weather, killed the new queen and contined in situe. Many variables

Absolutely possible. However I think she’s more italian than wild carniolan

So if that queen came from a walk away split - that split would have been hopelessly queenless and with an ageing/failing population. So it would need brood including eggs and some nurse bees (and maybe some resources) to make a strong new queen I guess. At least there seem to be good numbers of drones still around for mating - at least for now.

Yep. My previous video was me rescuing the walk away split

Hi from across the ditch 👍👋 ive had a bit of a surprise with queens this year myself in one of the hobbyists I'm helping hives. Opened up and found a young queen perhaps 6 weeks old in the top box of a double deep, came across the mature queen in the bottom box 😂 both laying up a storm so did an immediate split and shared the honey supers between the two hives. I suspect a failed swarm but very unusual 😂both colonies doing very well now👍😅

Yeah it’s pretty common for mum and daughter to work side by side in a big box. Pretty cool too
@jamesshaw33668 күн бұрын
So did that queen hatch and get killed by your original queen with the white?
@aussiebeekeeping8 күн бұрын
Probably killed by their population upon attempting to enter that hive

@aussiebeekeeping I think they try to make supersede queen And right after virgin hatched She was killed by old queen
@aussiebeekeeping12 күн бұрын
@MountainTopBeekeeping it’s possible. But she looked more Italian than the wild genetics in this hive I think. And I did have a failed walk away split 2 weeks ago.

The nail used in the bottom bar looked quite short, l use 45 mill C gun nails and skew them towards each other.

perhaps that queen returned from a mating flight and went into the wrong hive and was killed
