Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Thoughts and Concerns-AngryMonkeyGames

Today we're talking about Dead Rising, one of my favorite games ever which is getting a remake later this year. However, for every amazing thing they're adding, they're also changing some things. Some bigger changes, some are more minor but we talk about some of my thoughts and concerns in this video. What I'm excited about, what I don't like about it.

@@bam3654 Yeah that would be great! I don’t know how long modding would take but yeah the game comes out September 19th, I’m sure they’ll have that fixed before the end of the year. And if they can fix the lighting issue in a mod so Isabela and Frank don’t look so old, that would help a lot too! That would solve probably my biggest issues with this remaster, is the updated dialogue (along with the changes in lines) and the lighting. Now adding back in the erotica point system would probably be more difficult but I’m sure someone out there can figure it out.

⁠@@AngryMonkeyGamesre engine games are pretty easy to mod. I modded all the resident evil titles for myself. I think 7 is my least favorite but making Ethan spout out a Filthy Frank Line makes it more entertaining since I find Ethan as fun as watching paint dry.

I am going to skip it for the censorship, it isn't WHAT was censored. It is the principle that it is being censored at all. I will not support people that censor art.

normally i'd agree but the problem is dead rising fans like me had basically come at peace with the idea of the franchise being completely dead so any shot at a franchise revival is gonna take priority (bias) over any principles I have with censorship/shady business practices. The only thing that would probably get me to lose all hope and not buy the game would be if core game mechanics were changed to the point where it felt like i was playing Dead Rising 4 or something even worse.

Yes exactly! It's not WHAT they censored, it's the fact that they censored anything at all is that bothers me. All we wanted was improved controls, graphics, and smarter survivor AI. Which they did give us all that but they also did all these other weird things too.

@@BEDCORN That's fair too. Dead Rising 4 sadly bombed pretty hard. I enjoyed it more than a lot of other people seemed to but I definitely agree it was missing the magic that was in the 3 360 games. I heard they had a rushed deadline and fired half the staff or something too which is why the game hurt as much as it did. But I am no way discouraging people from buying it. Who knows, if this one does well they might give us the long awaited Dead Rising 5. I might still buy this remaster at some point as well but I'm not in a rush to get it either. I'll have to wait and see what other people's thoughts are on it.

I personally think that Capcom has gone about this remake in the wrong way. I find it very pandering. Like this game is made for adults, ok? Not children yet Capcom is treating us like we’re sensitive little babies with it’s censorship and other changes. It’s kinda ridiculous and i just can’t support that, it’s not Dead Rising in the same bowl of the original. Yeah I agree with the majority that the Mall, the zombies, the gore and other little things like that. I love that. I’m glad for it. It’s amazing with what I’m seeing. BUT with these pandering tactics? It’s too distracting. I’ll probably get it in November when the game’s been patched and I hear everyone’s final thoughts. See the whole game and see how it fits for me on personal note. But right now I’m too mixed on the game so, I’ll just wait it out and not rush out for it. So yeah, some bad things about the game and some good things about the game. So yeah, all mixed for me and for me, I do feel the remake won’t have the same magic as the original. That’s what I feel heavily on, dunno why some people say it’s a “love letter” it’s more corny love then passionate to me.

I wholeheartedly agree with all that. Visually looks amazing but the censorship is very unneeded. I know that a lot of the people who tried the game is playing like an older version like a beta build or something so there's still hope for them to fix things, and I hope they do because them removing ANYTHING at all that was present in the original defeats the purpose of it being a remaster. I might still get it later because I do love the original so much and I know that the stuff they did improve on are going to be amazing from what I'm seeing but the changes are just too much for a remaster. You say made for children but you clearly have not seen the terminally online brigade complain at any and everything they possibly can in video games. R mika slapping her ass (a wrester who do that in actual wrestling) or complain about cammy wearing a leotard, which is exercise clothing all while little girls get naked on tik tok and dance and lip sync to songs IRL. As long as the original is available I’m good. I wonder if kidders are gonna make a control mod for the original. The only censorship I’m cool with is Larry, cause that is an overtly racist design. Cliff, Erotica, is all stupid especially since this is the same series that had Nick Swinging a gun that shot Massagers and a gun shaped like his shaft.

Everything about the remaster with the exception of the voice acting and censorship (which I don’t think as big of a deal as people are making it out to be) looks 100 times better than original game.

Honestly these initial insights ive seen really killed all my hype for the game. The erotica being lost, i mean i guess thats fine. Unnecessary since it still gives you points and just doesnt say its erotica but fine. Cliff having his tragedy removes is a massive low blow, like now im curious if theyll make him not be married to a man in his death cutscene. Frank looks just so wrong for being a man in his 30s. If i had that much of a widows peak or gray hair when im through my thirties, thats game over for me bro. His voice, i mean its alright. The new va is talented but its putting a new voice on an iconic character. That's like mickey mouse not having his hoho high voice, it could be good but it just feels not right. The biggest thing for me is the voices. Theyre so out of tune with the emotion theyre trying to convey and their word timing. It feels like its a tts speech voiceover because there was poor voice direction from capcoms side to the new voices Edit: spelling is hard

@@thedevilsleutice I guess there is the 2016 PS4 version still available and it’s cheap so yeah that one is easy enough to pick up. In fact the original is under $10 too but Xbox 360 games aren’t as easy to find in stores since they’re discontinued but yeah the game is still easy to find and can still be enjoyed on a newer console like PS4. I don’t know what changes they made to it but I don’t think there’s anything too significant they changed, nothing like this one at least

@@AngryMonkeyGames it’s the same. Just with better performance do to the ps4 I’m pretty sure it’s more prone to crashing. Game runs at a silky smooth 4k 60 on pc even on mid end machines like mine. PC versions the best tho.

@@Isabel369 yep the original version is like $5-$7 and even the PS4 remaster is definitely under $15. I mean the game is worth $70, it’s such a fun game BUT those censors are pretty bad. I’ll wait for it to drop in price, it’ll probably drop pretty quick to like $20 or something and I’ll get it then.

Yeah there is still a lot of great things the remaster brings to the table. I'm still split on it because of all the reasons I mentioned but I'm sure it's still going to be a fun experience.

@@RottieGuy1980 Oh yeah it looked great but one of the major criticisms I heard was removing genders and choosing “Person A” which isn’t a boy but basically a boy or Person B” which isn’t a girl but basically a girl, because we’re not allowed to classify people as only 2 genders even though there are still only 2 genders in the game. Something like that.

I think the photos you take during the helicopter segment at the beginning don't actually give you points or cap it out since it's a tutorial in the original game

Im replaying my 2016 version on pc isntead of buying the new one . The 2016 version is everything a new version of the 2006 version should be .

The voice acting is fine. I'm okay with the new Frank voice. I actually prefer it to the original. I'm not fussed about hearing Cliff's original video. I don't think the original casts voice acting was positively notable that THEY must re voice again.

Honestly Larry was censored Cliff not being a vietnam vet is a trade off for trying to make the game take place in modern day if you look at the gameplay thet mention social media The Kent thing was probably just a choice because the hypersexualization of DR2 was kind of just annoying and cringe

@@shrippie-4214 I did think about the with Cliff. In 2006, Vietnam ended roughly 30 years ago. So a Vietnam vet would be in his early 50s at the youngest, now they’d be in their early 70s at the youngest so it can be a valid reason why they’d change it but if I guess my big problem here is them calling it a remaster instead of what it actually is, a remake. In a remaster you just clean up the graphics and make the game run better. But this is a full remake. I think that’s my big issue here.

Og dr is still perfect. I even kinda found survivor AI to be endearing because people in real life are kinda stupid when it comes to survival. The graphics still look nice. The voice acting is still superior. The "remaster" is a deep sale for me unfortunately. If the communist line was changed because of the game being sold in china... couldnt they just modify the game in that region? Like have chinese and international release.

@@ashureg1354 Exactly! They’d have to translate it to Chinese so the Chinese can enjoy it anyway probably so yeah just change it for them but keep it the same for us! Yeah I figured some people would like the original AI for the challenge or whatever but when I was playing it you’d have characters just standing around even though you yell come on. Or get caught on a wall, that’s what infuriated me more than the “Frank! Help!” Though that was annoying too.

@@AngryMonkeyGames well, if this is indeed RE engine then hopefully we can modify it enough so everyone can have their own perfect edition. Still, this doesn't excuse Capcom changing the game for worse in some aspects, this shouldnt be rewarded with a release day purchase. Anyway, this whole DR situation made me want to play the original again. 5 and 7 day survivor are the last achievements I need. I think the time is right.

@@ashureg1354 Oh I didn’t realize it was the same engine as RE but that makes sense they’re both Capcom, I’ve been wanting to play through the original DR game too, just been so busy the last few days I haven’t been able to. Yeah the 5 and 7 day survival I still need to do too. I have a few other things I need to do. But I got one of the hardest achievements, the Saint Achievement which was one of the hardest accomplishments I ever did but I did it!

@@armplanet7524 I guess I just don’t like how old Frank looks. He looks like he’s been in the middle of the apocalypse for a while, not just the beginning of it. I can’t remember how he looked in DR 4 but he looks old enough to be how he was in DR4. Yeah the voice sounds fine, it’s acted well enough, I just really like his original voice.

I am only supporting this game day one because I love the franchise. I believe with backlash we can get them to change some stuff. Mods on pc will fix parts of this game. All this censorship has been happening to all these games. We are talking about dead franchise from silent hill to dead rising. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and make your frustrations known. That is me and if you don't want to buy the game go ahead. I bought dead rising 4 day one and I still enjoyed it for what it is. When you love a franchise I feel like voicing your opinion of the direction is most important. I complained to capcom on social media on several posts. They just ignore it because they are probably getting money or tax incentive to change this crap. Maybe they want a pc game so they don't offend anyone. Who really knowns at this point. All I can say is that dead rising franchise is amazing and I hope capcom learns from players feedback.

@@raven80wolfx2 Yeah I guess that’s partially why I made this. I highly doubt Capcom will even notice my little video but I had so much to say about this game I had to put it all in video form. Because like you, I want this game to do well, I want this game to be the best it can be. But that’s why I’m so upset about these changes. I was going to get it for console because that’s what I have, so while the PC version will have all these great mods, sadly I’ll be missing out on all that. If nothing else I at least have the original. But I’ll still probably get this remake at some point too.

Imagine how much more you would enjoy it if it wasn't made as a lazy inspired cash grab. Companies will never change how they treat their customers if their customers continually act like mindless consumers who can't refrain themselves from buying something even if has no true value to them. @@Pure_Games_for_Play Absolutely! I’ve played through the original so often and would pay for that experience again. Not sure if I can say the same thing about this remake. If I wanted to be belittled I can do that for free on the internet but it almost feels this game is adding insult to injury, pay $70 and be treated like a child.

Capcom lately have basically been reaping the benefits of past better devs. They are re~releasing lesser versions of great titles. Dragon's dogma 2, re2 remake, re3 remake, re4 remake, just off the top of my head. Although they look prettier, it's not better. They are selling the work of better devs in a nutshell, absolutely displaying their lack of talent.

@@Pure_Games_for_Play Yeah I’ve been pretty upset with video game companies and their weird decisions for a while and every day I seem to get more disappointed in them. I think that’s one of the reasons retro gaming has gotten so popular, nostalgia plays a huge part of it sure. But also getting fully finished games that don’t need day 1 patches, things aren’t censored, or at least not in the way they are now, and are in a lot of cases better games. Companies now are releasing unfinished games that you have to download that can be taken away from you at anytime, and putting in these weird agendas. I still get excited about new releases but this may be the last video game generation I care about. And if I never buy a NEW game ever again, I have plenty of retro games to look for, and even if I never buy a video game again period, I have enough games to play to last me 3 lifetimes.

1. Capcom doesn't hire voice actors that are in a union. Not saying I agree, but thats the reason for changes in voice acting 2. They removed the communist comments cuz modern gaming is afraid to offend the libs. Its not a big thing tho, gameplay isnt changed. It's stupid, i agree. 3. Larry the butcher.... the asian company doesnt wanna offend the asians, which is weird cuz they were an asian company when making this character. Killing white people is the trend now i guess, its ok now to hate on the whites. Again, the gameplay is still there, but the change is dumb. 4. I dont mind my character leveling up too fast cuz ive already beaten the 360 version and the xbox one version. This is still a hard game, and with modern type gamers they may find it too hard and walk away. Its a shame but i'm cool with the decision. 5. The erotica removal is complete bullshit, that changes gameplay. Chopping peoples heads off is good, taking pics of cleavage bad, its weird. Wtf were they thinking.

1-Oh that makes sense, I didn’t know that was the reason 2-Yeah I know it’s a political change but it still felt unnecessary to change it. It just makes the character more unlikable which would give you more of a reason to get rid of him at least in their eyes. But I guess they don’t want to make a “bad guy” TOO bad? @@SeanJohn127 5-Yeah that’s dumb. It’s a Rated M game. There’s going to be Rated M content in it! I don’t understand it, blood-good, boobs-bad…what?

Lince and erotica removal and changes may suck but thats is all ot is. Most remasters do change due to shift in general politicis and such. Larry might be seen as offensive since the game is also shipping towards China. But if only these minor chnages did happen, then I don't mind it at all.

@@neonnook5630 It’s not a big deal it’s removed except the fact it’s an element from the original game that’s being removed. It’s not necessarily that they removed it that I’m upset, it’s the fact they removed anything at all is what I’m upset about.
