Here are some tips for hiking in the Israeli desert:
1) Bring enough water - Be sure to bring enough water with you and some reserve
2) Start early - Start the hike early in the morning so you can be sure to finish before dark.
3) Check the weather forecast - Avoid hiking during floods or heat-waves (Hamsin).
4) Stay on marked trails - For your safety and to protect the fragile environment, do not stray from marked trails.
5) Beware of Army firing zones: In the desert there are army firing-zones, be sure not to step-in by accident, it can be fatal! The firing zone entrance from main road are marked with a skeleton sign. These zones are usually inactive during the weekend, but it is always best to check with the IDF.
