Ah the engine out , nothing quite wakes you back up like that sudden silence accompanied by a wing shooting forward . Keep the content coming, might seem boring to you but we love it
@Logan4661
@Logan4661 9 ай бұрын
While I agree that the sudden silence tends to adjust ones focus pretty quickly, I had a prop split open in flight, and that racket will make a pilot wide-eyed and bushy tailed RIGHT NOW! I killed the motor, but the noise continued, and that wasn't at all helpful. That also lead to what is probably still my most "interesting" landing. I had to stay seated and lift my feet to clear the last rows of head high corn and then get my feet down in the last 5 feet. I landed and kept kiting my glider about a 10th of a mile back to my vehicle. The fluttering prop was so loud that a farmer that lives about a mile from where it happened heard it and came to see if I was OK. No injuries, no other damage.

Thanks for sharing this, you're exactly right anything that good happens when we don't have the camera ready. I always carry an extra spark plug as well as a couple small tools in my bag. I have had to swap out a couple plugs in the past which kept me from eating a ride. Nice explanation of how to stick a landing, unplanned. Thanks for the video

I pre-flight and recheck on landing, I take off my shirt and fold my wing up and stuff it in my shirt if necessary. Yes, you are right always practice engine outs. I've had 20 mostly in my first year. I got one route to the beach with about 25 landing sites possible. On a 70-mile route. I'll go to idle and see if I can hit those spots for the fun on it. Always practice is what I tell newbies and really just never stop, plus it's fun to challenge yourself. I could write a book on my share of problems, most of them self-inflicted. I got it down pat now. I always look for a landing spot and always assume your engine will fail. AKA falconronfalconron f/b

A simple clip that connects to the fins on the head would prevent the plug from backing out. A small metal tang that hits the flat sides of the plug where the sockets grabs and simply attach that to a head bolt. I have seen several videos with this happening, preventing it in the first place would save a lot of money. Also, imaging getting whacked with that plug on the ground, or hitting a car lol
@btchhopperou812
@btchhopperou812 Жыл бұрын
It's not a bad idea although it has it's possible 'negatives' it can cause too. If you've a loose plug working back-forth and wearing threads down, and the head, being aluminum, will wear much quicker than the steel plug threads. On top of this, if a pilot is not in tune with his machine, it may stay like that for a while... in which case can cause a lean A/F mixture scenario resulting in possible early top-end wear/failure, or even a potential for premature coil/ignition system failures due to a weak or intermittent ground situation. Now this stuff I've said above is more like something a 'dealership' might say LOL, but they are real possibilities...and I'd rather not lose a plug- my luck, it'd happen while crossing over an interstate or something and just happen to whack a windshield and cause a freakin' pileup beneath me. So a spare plug is REALLY cheap and it's good to keep on hand in case of fouling(very rare these days)... but moreso just being cheap peace of mind. Man, sorry I turned that into a pointless ramble haha, have a safe weekend

if the plug is vibrating too strong and fall out you are forced to do a dead stick approach. never fun. but as you said with a good pre-flight inspection and proper lubricant on ALL necessary parts you can expect a smooth ride 🤪😜alright alright...i´ll show myself out 🤣

I don't have an ICE PPG (EPPG) but if I did, wouldn't it be a good idea to lock wire the spark plug to a head bolt or fin? Maybe, carrying an extra spark plug and wrench would be a good idea too. Plus, I carry a factory wing bag under my seat just in case I ever need to pack up in the field for a hike.

Could somebody tell me what I should be looking to pay for a used wing how big of one that I need I'm right at 250 lb, and where would be the best place to find one, I would really appreciate the information. I don't think I would like a nice one because I'm pretty sure I would tear it up trying to learn, once again thanks for the info and keep having fun, PS I want to put this wing on a trike,,
@kyleoglee
@kyleoglee Жыл бұрын
Wing selection isn't based on weight:size. It's highly model specific. Whichever model you're interested in, there is a size in that make/model that is appropriate. That size doesn't translate to other glider makes/models.

It isn't the first time you've had a spark plug blow out either! Its a fairly rare failure. For it to happen more than once on the same individual is exceedingly rare. Maybe you should reconsider how you are torqueing them.

I saw one of Tuckers videos where someone's plug came out mid flight and didn't damage the prop. Hard to believe it doesn't hit. Must be shooting out with a lot of force!
@cloudpandarism2627
@cloudpandarism2627 Жыл бұрын
@@adam1279 it does. think of motor compression. if you have 10 bar pressure or more on that plug at the moment it shoots out and even have enough energy to get ripped out that tight rubber thingy i doubt it will have any chance to hit the prop. i am more concerned the spark cable got damaged.

Ok,,, Borderline being talked into this game... Multiple (very Multiple) motor-out landings, not expected,,, is not very encouraging!! Do understand, what goes up, must come down,, but the coming down when and where up planned, plays an important part!! Is is the quality or type of engine I should be looking at??? Is there a "stat" or failures information sheet out there that the engine guys put out?? If so, are they truthful !! Personally this has me a bit curious.. Do you need to be a small engine repairman by trade to own one of these things.. hell, my lawn mower never stops.. aren't they under the same stress? A certain country build better engines. Just questions that the " paramotor Bible" doesn't really anser. Should be a big deal if you plan right, but going up and having to find an UBER who'll bring me back does... 😊

Kyle I want to fly so bad I can taste it. I’ve come to the conclusion though that it takes over and becomes a way of life. Up early, in bed late,fixing this and improving that. Constant maintenance! It’s like being married and having 3 girlfriends on the side. They all want attention and all hell breaks loose if you don’t give it to them. Actually 3 girlfriends might require less attention than flying. Hmmmmmmmmm!
