John Mayer, you appreciate our 'acceptance' of you? You were Born to fill those big sandals of Jerry one day brother, and I can't really think of anyone who could have done it better. You've stayed true to the music and group, and breathed new life and vibrancy into it every step of the way! I can't afford the tickets, but getting to listen to you with Dead and Company online has been such an uplifting part of the past years, and I hope that it can continue to be. Blessings to you all...

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Jerry Garcia but something about John Mayer, playing Dead, gets the nod from me. His guitar prowess and energy just does it for me.
@timturk18993 жыл бұрын
Saw Jerry play many, many times, and certainly they're won't be another like him, yet Mayer has seemed to really dig deep into his role in "The Dead", not copying Jerry, or even sounding like Mayer himself, lately, just excellent playing with the band as a cohesive whole. This Fall Tour is the best I I've heard yet with John. It's taken 5 years for them to really find they're fit, but I would have waited forever. I didn't think they'd ever sound as good as they have lately. Just excellent!👍😃

Mayer can't out 'Jerry' Jerry, no one can, but he does a wonderful job & I love his renderings... he sounds great & is very talented. Jerry would certainly approve of him & his guitar stylings. I'm grateful that his joining the band has allowed the music to continue, the tours to continue, & let's there be songs to fill the air! (~);}

he is an absolutely amazing guitar player....im a die hard jerry fan also but John has taken the jerry style and made it sound even better since he is such an advanced player......he mixes a little more blues into it which is the main difference... :)

@@jeffreypetro3803 I agree! Mayer can't out Jerry and Jerry can't out Mayer. They are both one of a kind. In my opinion and from my perspective, my ears, eyes, and soul, just enjoys Mayer's take on it a tad bit more.

i'm 34 years old, my dad was a deadhead, it sounds like john might continue the band even after the older guys retire and if this thing continues I am just too excited that my generation gets to have the Dead experience, its crazy exciting that Bob Weir wants this thing to continue and it just might go for quite a while. The Grateful Dead is the religion (sorry for the religious analogy) and Dead and Co. is the church service. If in like 20 or 25 years I'm still going to Dead and Co. shows life will literally be better because of it, I never paid attention to John Mayer but now I am very grateful that he has a love for this music and he seems like a pretty cool person
@mikem6682 жыл бұрын
Wonderful comment. I hope John is Weir's age with a younger Jerry/John taking over. * Mayer said the Dead finds you. I liked them in 70, but I passed up a press pass to see them in 71. In London in 72, I passed the theater where they were playing that night, didn't check for tickets. In 77, I'm in the military and see them in Winterland. Maybe they thought I was a Punk Rock guy. They didn't play one song I hoped to hear. I now realize it was the best show I ever saw and I saw Cream, Hendrix, Dylan and the Band, Springsteen... Dead and company is a gift. As are all the recordings. During the pandemic I picked up the guitar again and taking John's advice by diving into their music as a player. Never too late.

This was really cool to hear John talking about the music and how he approaches it. I am not a musician and really don't know a lot about the technical aspects of it, but this helps people like me to understand better what they are doing. One of things I like best about this band is that they are not trying to faithfully recreate Grateful Dead. They are doing thing differently, their way.

I agree 200% but would also say that I don't think the Grateful Dead ever tried to recreate Grateful Dead either, they just went for it every night and it was always perfect for that time.

i got to witness 2 shows in denver this year, I went in 2018 and 2019 also and those were too good to put in to words, but this year the band definitely reached a new level. the songs and the improvisation were amazing in 2018 and 2019, but this year was something different, like Dead and Co. is carrying the torch of the Dead but it is becoming more than a tribute or cover or follow-up band, it now seems like it's own thing (still the dead), but they are going in some unique directions every once in a while and some of the stuff they are doing is out of this world, and you can tell John is getting really comfortable with the songs and playing in that style
