Nice one Graeme. As you so rightly say it's not about the length of your rod but how you dangle your worm,or deadbait. Wish more people understood that about tackle. It's the angler not the fancy gear that catches the fish

Ya we call those walleye or pickerel up here in Canada. Ugly looking fish, but one of the best kind to eat. I wish our avaerage size was 4lbs.. ours is like 2lbs where I'm at. If you catch a 6lbs one you got bragging rights.

Zander look incredibly similar to the North American walleye. I wonder what kinds of looks I'll get next year when I do this ice fishing.

Zander is basically the same fish as North American walleye, major difference is that it grows a bit bigger. Same goes for the European perch, basically the same fish as the yellow perch that lives in America, but it grows bigger ^^

Do Zander fight like a wet sock? Walleye have very little fight to them. They're like reeling in a wet sock. Same goes for Sauger. I guess I'm wondering if the entire species fight in a similar fashion.

Thanks Greame. there seem to be mixed opinions as to whether or not Zander exist in the Broads. I'll definitely be trying that method. Great collection of old books you have there, pure gold. were people still tackle tarts back then do you think?

are there any good alternatives to injecting air into the dead bait? I fish the river rhine, and the crayfish regularly destroy my bait within 20-30min. I was thinking about underwater floats like we use for wels catfish, but they seem to scare the mistrustful zander away.

Great video! I was planning to try doing some deadbaiting for pike next week. However, since I'm new to this and there are almost no waters with large amounts of pike living in them (I live in Belgium), I'm not sure where to start. Which types of locations would you suggest I should be looking for to get a decent chance at catching a pike?

At a steep canal bank, where you see heron hunt, you can sometimes see big pikes cruising in the margins Problem is that you have a problem to get a landing net under them without risking your neck. Old bunkers in the canal bank near Maldegem are pike territory. (I live in Eeklo)

Should do.Hypo into deadbaits was all the rage for Pike when I was doing it as a youngster.

if ur deadbaiting in a pond with no current why not just use a float with a night light on it... u'll miss less bites this way.. over here we use 4-6 gram floats..(a chub float would do the trick).

You'll have better flotation with air. Syringes aren't all that expensive and one will last a light time. My father has had one for decades that he uses to float his earthworms.

+ Adarchist, strips of bubblewrap or packing foam are fiddly to get in, cork is even harder to get in. How hard is it to get A disposable syringe? Nurses, doctors, diabetics, family... Explain what it is gonna be used for, most will not look at you as if you was going for them herons. incidentally, an old syringe can also come in dead handy to put fine oil in small bearings (thermostats, reels, whatever) and, as Graeme shows in some videos, to inject fish oil into the deadbait. One thing tho, you may have to use some PVA string to keep the bait on during the cast. The PVA melts and up it wafts.
