Back in the mid 80s my buddy Lonnie and me,Rich got the Mopar nationals started at Woodburn after being turned down by PIR, SIR and Spokane. Jim Livingston the Woodburn owner took us on.First year was Ford v Mopar and we won all classes that day. Jim sez Mopar only from now on.Looks to be going stronger than ever. Thanks to all.

Half the fun of driving an old vehicle is all the looks and waves a thumbs up a guy gets. I had a 79 powerwagon that I frame off restored, jacked up with big mud tires and sounded amazing. I couldn’t stop at a gas station without somebody coming up and commenting and asking about it, had people ask to take pictures, one guy seemed to love it even more than me and took a several minute walk around commentary video…..at a gas station 🤣

Oh yeah. My daughter learned this lesson early on… when we’re in an old car, it’s kind of like we’re famous. Everyone is going to look at us, and people will want to talk to us all the time. When I was younger I really didn’t enjoy that aspect of classic ownership. I just wanted to be left alone. But I’ve grown to appreciate the enthusiasm. And it’s important to remember that my car is probably the only one like it they’ve ever seen, or have seen in decades…

The wagon is just awesome! We have left lane losers here in Ontario as well, ‘frozen in the fast lane’ as I say. Would be a blast to see two classic Mopars like that on a road trip! We have only seen the dash lights twice on our 66 Charger, I’ve owned it since ‘85. Once idling in a friends driveway at night the dash lights lit up on me- blew my mind for the few seconds they worked, happened to my son once as well since he keeps and drives her now. Keep up the great content Jamie!

Beautiful car. I am old enough to remember when no one wanted the four doors or the station wagons, but those days are gone. Frankly, they're just cool. And there's a chance they weren't hot-rodded by high-school idiots like I was back then. Maybe somebody flipped the air cleaner cover over, but that's about all we did to mom's car when she let us drive it on weekends.

9:35 Finally i know why they call those rims 'slot mags'. I had no idea. As for running on old tires, i once did a trackday on 34y old winter tires😂. I got them as old stock from a garage sale. The rubber was rock hard. But no cracks. They had been stored in a dark dry garage. They gave me no problem other then the car feeling kinda lose😮

Your video has inspired me to replace the tires on my 68' Newport. When I bought the car in 88' from the original owner, my great aunt, the tires looked brand new. She said they were installed in the late 70's but she rarely drove the car again. Fast forward to 2024 and they're still on the car almost some 45 years later! They're still round and hold air. Good for trips around the neighbourhood (I think). LOL But now it's time to buy the old MOPAR it's third set of tires. I am finding it surprisingly hard to find whitewalls for a 14-inch rim! Especially here in Canada. Might have to go with black. Safety first!
@DeadDodgeGarage
@DeadDodgeGarage 5 ай бұрын
Even around here, getting 14” tires can be a challenging proposition. And for the wagon, I got about $1300+ quote for four new 15”s in these dimensions - and they didn’t even have them.

Fun times! I watched this video after the live stream. Good to see Colin & H.D. I nodded off about when you arrived at the track for a couple hours & then watched the rest. I still think that in the muscle car era that the big 3 had their poop together best the following years - 63 -64, 66-67, 69-72. I rode in many of the fast cars of those years when they were new or a couple years old. The Mopars ruled! So many different models of AFFORDABLE muscle cars!

Living in Tigard, Woodburn is only a 25-minute drive. Yours was very entertaining. I went to the first Mopar Nats there in '86 and have been to 25 or so over the years. Mopar Heaven, always hot and exposed. I met Graveyard Mark there when he came with a completely cased original General Lee. The trunk was filled with concrete for the jump.

Great video brothers Atwood 😊! Definitely a good reminder to make sure you have provisions in case of worst case scenarios. I’ve done the same things and it made for some really difficult days; truth be known-I look back on it as lessons from the Devine 🙄🤦🏻‍♂️. I say that because there were many…many times that I was extremely lucky just to have made it home! Those times made me thank me lucky stars but didn’t make me very diligent concerning preparedness. We all get excited to take our project cars out on the road-usually before everything has been double checked. When you’re building entire cars there are so many incidentals that could be missed and some adjustments are of course normal but …as the grey beard has started to bloom I’ve gotten a more careful and mindful of all the things that could go wrong. Always good to call a couple friends and see what they’re up to…say hey if I call broke down, can you come and pick me up😂? Having to foot it all the way home to get tools and a recovery vehicle sucks, but the real challenge is driving two vehicles back home! It’s not easy but I’ve done it 🤣. I leapfrogged two cars home from about 6 miles away. 1 mile at a time 😫the madness of this hobby + youth=life lessons lol. Once my shop repairs are finished from the tornado damage we had I will be able to get back to a normal workload and I will certainly become a member! Your knowledge of this stuff is very impressive, and it’s very valuable also. I appreciate the reference videos you’ve made, I’ve been reminded of things that I’ve forgotten over the years, and I’ve learned several new things watching your channel over the last year. Being able to reach out to someone who knows this stuff when you get stumped can be the difference between moving forward in days or getting frustrated where you walk away from that project….for me (at least on my personal projects) that could be between 6 months-6 years later before getting back to it! Those unfinished projects get heavy on the shoulders over time too. Thanks for all your Mopar contribution Jamie…and your fuzzy headed brother Colin too! 😁👏👏

It still looked good on the back bumper. because of the wide whitewall. this happened in 2008. date code on the tire was 1959. I used it in the 80s a lot. but then relegated it to the spare.

That F body wagon had KYB shocks all around and the HD suspension. The hiway up the south side of OC is curvy and very scenic and a little on the high speed limit side, glad you could take the drive. Put a little G force in your life, drive a back-road today.

The Elevator! It has a view of the dam and Willamette River from the top there, as I recall, and across to West Linn. It's probably as close to "Weird" as you wanna get. KPW

Try driving in Rhode Island. State is 49 miles long and on a good day will take you on the average an hour to get anywhere and they will take your bumper off to get in front of you.😂

My 66 hardtop is the same color (although with a bronze roof), same interior as yours! I did find that the earlier 66's have the '65 front swaybar - yours is the later one, mine is the '65 one. And I see that recipe for the stroker is from Gary Pavlovich, still the Poly guru and super helpful.

Originally the car didn’t have a bar. I was going to install the goofy factory style bar that I removed from my early ‘66 Charger. It had clamp mounts on the strut rods. But instead we put a Hellwig kit on it.

@@DeadDodgeGarage That sounds like my early '66/'65 setup. I wish I could find poly bushes for that. And this video was very timely - need to do LCA bushings, so will go with poly as you suggest. Looks like it would avoid needing a press too?

Look at all of the rich history that wagon was through Thank you , Jamie for NOT making your content go behind a pay wall ( that turned me off , to a few channels ) And keeping your content on a consistent basis Incredibly gracious of you Much appreciated 🙏 Your tech support Sounds enticing #DeadDodgeGarage

@@DeadDodgeGarage They are not that heavy. My '66 Charger is around 3,600 pounds. I can't see the wagon much heavier. I just read wagon 3,500?

GREAT VID! I LOVE THE LONG HAULS! ❤ I Am still kinda cornfused on "ping" .What it it!?? Cheers!
@DeadDodgeGarage
@DeadDodgeGarage 5 ай бұрын
Pinging is pre-ignition. The charge in a cylinder lights before the piston reaches the top of its travel, so the combustion event is actually trying to fight the piston back down and turn the engine backwards, or at least fight a piston that is stuck in its area of dwell. It’s that unstoppable force vs immovable object thing… one or two pings here or there isn’t the end of the world, but excessive pinging events will damage pistons and do other bad things. There are many factors that contribute to it, but too much spark timing advance is a big one.

yeah. the guts let go. looks like ripped tread cords on the inside that reinforce everything. when those rip, they kinda do that to the outer tread wall, and make the tread pattern zig zag like that
