It's funny cause 'classic' Em' was never about this super fast rapping that Em' does now. I get he can have corny lines but I still think Eminem’s problem ,as of now, is an over reliance on delivering crazy bars. It’s like he keeps trying to outdo his craziest bar and if he’s not delivering bars then he isn’t satisfied anymore. I forgot who made the point but if you go back to MMLP, Eminem Show, he almost has no bars. Just impactful and hard hitting lyrics with sick cadences. In the MMLP2 he hit the best balance in my opinion between bars and still making songs with content. Legacy is the most fucking insane technical ability I’ve ever heard, same rhyme scheme throughout 3 verses while taking you on a journey to him getting his confidence and his voice on the track gets perpetually clearer in each verse signifying how he found his voice. Groundhog Day where he rhymes the “in” sound for damn near the whole song while TALKING HIS SHIT, and that Bad Guy last verse...I challenge anyone to find a better verse than that without mentioning top 5 caliber verses of ALL TIME. I just don’t think we have the same standards for his peers like Lil Wayne who really hasn’t said or done much in the same amount of time (2010-now). He set the bar so damn high for himself and it’s just like how the fuck can he even reach it anymore. There’s glimpses of it throughout the time since he came back where that shit takes me back to a little kid with his headphones on. Darkness is still a top tier song from all angles rivaling Stan IMO. Anyways if you bothered to read this far then some of my favorite lines from Side B are below if you’re interested. “Lone sniper, I hold the microphone, like a loaded rifle, my domes brighter, all I spit from my skull is fire, all that’s missin is a motorcycle with the chrome wire, spoke tires and y’all are flow biters so I don’t gotta, explain why the call me your ghostwriter (ghost rider)” “Cuz the gutters where my mind is and when, it’s in this frame, better split like the 5 and the 10, cuz without a second to spare, I’m strikin again, and when the beat is up my alley I go right for the pins (pens)” “Even when I’m rappin less stellar, it’s sour grapes, I still whine (wine), I’m the best Seller (cellar).” “Cause I got a bone to pick and Slim Shady, Will thug(Thug), and harm any (harmony) who attempt to diss Hailie” Bone Thug N Harmony reference that blew my mind when I heard it. Then a simple one but I still thought it was dope. “I take a Foe (fo) out like Fe Fi Fum” “Ain’t nothing you say could ever trump, Mic, pencil get killed, if you’re hypersensitive I wasn’t referencing the Vice President chill, I mean my pensmanship at times tends to get ill, violence but with skill, that’s why I hence when I write ends up with the mic and pencil gettin killed”

@M2DreDaniel4 жыл бұрын
Personally it seems like Em takes the heat for just about anything because I have to sit back and ask. What exactly is considered dope? What's considered corny? Cause I can look at a lot of artists now who put out shit and the lines the similies and metaphors they use, are weak as fuck but they also couple it with an equally basic flow and such but they get hailed as dope for it, all the while it seems like with Eminem people are so focused on the shit they don't like or find issue with and let that overshadow everything. I mean, who gives a damn that he's rapping about covid he isn't the only one to do it but I've never seen anyone catch as much hell as Eminem does even though while he's rapping he made a play on words making all the references, why is that a problem and how is that corny, like the hook in general touched on a bunch of references but he's playing around with the words and having fun. At the same time em has addressed this multiple times, every time he drops something everyone complains that it's not what they wanted. He writes about things that are important or have substance, he gets flamed for it, he gets mad and goes off, he's being petty and childish, he raps just to rap and for the sake of rapping and now he has no content, why is he doing it. Never mind that he's still at least putting a lot of effort into the craft and it's what he loves to do. It just seems like everyone is always coming to bash Em and run with it and that shit seems to be contagious cause if it wasn't em I guarantee they wouldn't get this much focus hate and criticism. I don't agree with the fact that just cause he came out putting everyone on notice with bars and all and now he ain't got it. More often than not no one truly pays attention to bars like that now everyone's main focus is flows and beats. Cause on both sides of mtbmb em was at least still dropping bars but the criticism was how it was delivered and while yea its completely opinionated on whether you like it or not, for example little engine while you may not like the hook, it was designed to sound like a chainsaw revving, and while you hear that and not like it it still doesn't change the fact that he's rapping his ass off and just cause he's rapping just to rap without a heavy concept it doesn't equate to him being corny I just feel like personal opinion at times tends to affect the perception of how the music comes out and that in itself creates an even harder goal to reach. Either way just my opinion.

Totally agree with you. Eminem is just held to way high of a standard that he gets ripped a part soon as he relaxes on his bars for a moment. He really can’t win. Eminem talks about this himself all the time. Everyone wants something different from him. These guys love the Relapse album, which I do too. But if Eminem makes another album that sounds like that what are people going to say “oh he isn’t evolving he’s making the same content” or “oh wow he’s still rapping about this grotesque stuff, he’s so gross we need to cancel him”. He makes something modern and time stamped to fit 2020 perfectly and with modern production and still gets ripped apart. It’s a lose lose for him. I know most wouldn’t be so hard on this album if it was a different artist that made this album.
@Yawdan4 жыл бұрын
It's because Eminem is in the conversation for best rapper. But he's sort of an outlier in that he doesn't make the same type of music that a Jay-Z, Nas... Or a J. Cole/Kendrick make. And the fact that his lives a different to life to other rappers, he's differences mean that he may have to do more to be taken the same way other rappers of his tier are. It seems that to make music that appeals to people outside of his core fan base, he has to step out of his personal tastes. When he makes music that he personally likes (by that I mean beat selection, content, lyrics, how he wants to rhyme), he isolates those that aren't a fan of his music. Unfortunately, it seems he has to decide between his personal artistry, and appealing to the culture. What Eminem nerds to do is just lock in with Hip Hop producers and make a pure Hip Hop album. Actually get Premier beats, 9th Wonder and the like, and not worry about sales, and just rap. Once he's delivered that, he will appease his detractors and can continue creating how he wants to.
@Shaolinmike19944 жыл бұрын
@@Yawdan I think you have some valid points, but at the same time they will still find a way to rip him a part. Another thing though, Eminem can’t really rap about the same issues as Jay, Cole, or Kendrick. He can’t relate to the same issues as a black man in America. He’s already rapped about struggles of poverty, but people say they are tired of hearing about that from him. Then when he raps about problems in America on “Revival” he got ripped up for that and some said he shouldn’t rap about “the plight of black people” or “woke Eminem isn’t good”. I really feel he is in a lose lose. There are some people that don’t want Eminem to be a part of the culture or they are sick and tired of him. One dude literally told Royce “I want you to kick Eminem out of the culture”. Royce said that is never happening. Although he may be the most loved amongst his fans, he is also the most hated in hip hop. There will always be negative feedback about him no matter what he does.

@@Shaolinmike1994 to be honest, i don't care about what foolish and/or racist people say lol. They are not important. Eminem doesn't have to rap about what others do. The fact that Eminem is himself is one of his strengths. _But_ he has to make at least an album that can stand next to the Illmatics, Reasonable Doubts, Death Certificates etc. He doesn't have to rap like others at all. But he needs to at least have the music to be comparable to them. He needs rap over the classic Hip Hop producers beats. No I.D, Pete Rock, 9th Wonder, Buckwild etc. Nas, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Rakim, LL Cool J, Scarface, Raekwon, Outlast and many others have all given at least one album that was an undisputed classic, and have gone on to experiment with their sound and content. That's mostly why people separate eminem from 1999-2004 and 2009-present, not just because of the huge break in between projects, but him relearning how to rap changed his style undeniably. For me imo, I have no issue with it.

I know that he needs to surround himself with better producers and live a outside of his shell for a change. But I also know that he's now only making music for his core fan base (me included) It's the same with all the legends. For example, while Nas has remained a true lyricist for the majority of his career he hasn't actually made a record that moved the culture in a long time ( Kings Disease was fire ) Kane hasn't had a decent album in a he'll of a long time. @@jaynelson1762 yeah i feel like some of his worst verse were during this screaming era (2010-1017). Him screaming can be goodon certain type of production like on recovery but it didn't fit well with mmlp2 type of production. A prime example of that is his verse on medicine man from compton. The beat was freaking nice, the chorus too, Dre's verse was nice and then came Eminem screaming is lungs out with a snare so loud that the combination made my ears bleed. I never thought before that moment that Em could ruin a song with a verse lol. I think this is why MTBMB is soo good because he has such a control of his voice and cadence that he sounds on alot of songs like he used to rap 15 years ago,he sounds 15 years younger lol. Kamikaze was a step in the right direction even though he was a little but too aggressive on certain songs, MTBMB has the perfect balance of cadence and aggressivity imo much like MMLP and TES.

I disagree about the Royce thing, yes royce had the better album of last year compare to em. But lyrically if em is on a track with Royce, em for the most part is out besting Royce, i didnt say every time. I said for the most part, look big Sean cypher, arguably em had the best verse on the track, even I will em out did Royce, not alike em out did Royce, caterpillar em out did Royce, and even you gon learn is debatable but ill give it to Royce over em. So lyrically if they are put together on a track, I'll put my money on em having the better verse. But I do agree that Royce currently is putting out better product, but then again it's all about your expection and what is the artist themself aim. For when they put out an album. Or music in general I can pretty much tell you this when em, was making this album especially side B, I doubt em went into thinking I did to make my equivalent of book of ryan or the allegory. Is em trying to make an album right now better than book of Ryan or the allegory. I don't think so, so why compare or bring up Royce when what em wants to do is have fun and put out as much music as he can, in this stage of his career, I think you'll actually start to like this version of em more if you accept that what he did. Before is done and dusted this style of em is goofy still childish with some funny to quote on quote corny lines, while still rapping with complex rhymes and good cadence and flows. And may refence current events to show that he is still keeping up with the times. While he may from time to time drop tracks in the vein of darkness to really show off his skill and to speak about subject matters that are quite deep. Or real life event, that's things em may do from time to time. As long as you expect this and alongside with the expecton that whenever em is on a feature he is going to really show up to show his the best on the track as the feature. Because his been showed to do this and is still doing this. If this what I can expect from em I'm okay with that, espiscally with it being this far into his career, I'll judge him on what his trying to do what his overall aim is and does he do it well. Or at least to a good enough level where I can still enjoy it. Even if it's something I don't particularly like. If the answer is yes even if it's something you don't like then mission accomplished.

It's not simply expectation because it's Em, people let rappers with worse lyrics pass and say "it's a vibe" because those rappers make a different kind of rap. It's not supposed to be lyrical. Em puts himself in a lyrical lane and writes bad lyrics and hide those bad lyrics in technical complexity and has been doing so for decades. We've been taking it easy on Em for a very long time. If this was any other lyrical emcee from the 90's we'd have written them off as lost causes after Curtain Call and subsequent releases would be obscure and without fanfare.
