In "Deadfall," a thriller by R.D. Wingfield, retired British special agent and demolition expert Harry Davis is reluctantly pulled back into the dark world he thought he had left behind. Harry, now working in the demolition business blowing up old factory chimneys, had once been part of a covert section of the Ministry of Defence operating under clandestine orders. Years earlier, he was involved in an ill-fated assassination attempt on a rising African politician named Kabinda.
The story picks up when Harry's seemingly peaceful life is disrupted by the sudden appearance of an old army colleague on his doorstep. Shortly after, an attempt is made on Harry's life. This sequence of events forces Harry to confront the possibility that Kabinda, now a powerful figure, might be seeking revenge. Alternatively, it could be that the Section, still engaged in its dirty tricks, is manipulating events from the shadows.
Harry navigates a web of intrigue, attempting to discern friend from foe amidst the tension of old grudges and political machinations. The thriller weaves sharp dialogues, clear-cut characters, and a series of twists and turns that keep the audience on edge until the very end.
