@@GardenSanity you sure ARE an enabler and I love it!!!! The only sad thing is that the lobelia is a zone 6 and I’m in zone Siberia 😂😂😂😂, I mean zone 5 so it would not come back for me. I do buy verbena boneriensis though even if it’s an annual here because I have tall yellow and orange rudbeckia and the combo is gorgeous!!!! I’m trying to put as many perennials as I can so that next year I can sit back and watch everything grow….. who am I kidding!! Sit back? 😂😂😂 I’ll probably ask the neighbors if I can plant a little in their yard too knowing me 🤣. Thank you again for the video and looking forward to the next one 🌻🌻🌻

Thank you for providing such clarity, and the before and after pictures. There seems to be an abundance of differing advice on deadheading Geum Totally Tangerine. I've had one for 3 years now, and it has never repeat bloomed. I get a wonderful flush in April/May, and I've deadheaded by simply removing individual blooms, and also by removing complete stems. Neither has been successful in prompting new blooms. Your video has given me a bit more confidence in what I'm doing, so will follow your instructions and see how the plant reacts. Thanks again.

Love my Rozanne, love my geums... though mine are a shorter variety that only blooms for about 2 months... but I am falling in love with them.

Hi Sandy -- it sounds like you've got two great varieties of flowering perennials! Yes, Totally Tangerine Geum -- the variety in this video -- is sterile, so it blooms much longer than other geums. However, many geums bloom for a couple of months -- like you said yours does, which is great. (Some perennials flower only for a few weeks.) I also have Tempo Rose Geum, which doesn't bloom as long, but is still so pretty when it does. And the foliage remains so nice once the flowers are done, which to me is such an added bonus in the garden! 💚😃

Great video and great help - thanks. I live in London - but what time of year do you think is best to divide Geums? There’s a lot of conflicting ideas on line and I would rather go with what you recommend! Thank you.

Hi Brian, you can divide them either in Spring or in early Fall. I do mine in the Spring, and they always thank me for it by growing nicely for the Summer season. Plus I never have to worry by dividing them in Spring (versus Fall) that we get an early freeze and the plants get damaged if they roots haven't established themselves into the soil yet. So I'd say divide them now and enjoy their beautiful foliage (and maybe more flowers here and there) this year! 🧡

Looking good! I was wondering how long your ko roses take to rebloom after the first flush? Mine have been sleeping for the last 3 weeks. Should I fertilize them?

Good question Will. I try to deadhead my Knockouts a little at a time so that there’s not too long of a lull in between blooms - versus deadheading an entire shrub all at once. That being said, there is definitely a break after the first heavy flush of blooms each year. They are heavy feeders, so adding more rose fertilizer is a good idea right now. In fact, the Knockout breeders recommend fertilizing after the first flush versus in Spring. I do both. Do you see rose buds forming? 🌹

@@GardenSanity The first flush was great. I only see one tiny new shoot and no buds. The thing is; I dead headed my floribundas after the knockouts and they’re already pushing out new growth.

Hmmm… How’s the weather been? For me, one or two hot and sunny days seems to kick them into high gear. Fertilize and talk nicely to them, gently tell them that their “cousins” are showing them up. (Yes, I talk to my plants. No, I don’t have any data that it helps.) 😜

🤣 Glad there’s no jealousy. Unless you fertilized with something high in nitrogen (which I’m sure you didn’t), the nitrogen would push out leafy growth moreso than flowers. So give it a good dose of rose fertilizer worked into the soil and water it in. And then wait. Patiently. My second flush hasn’t kicked in either, just a few blooms but there are lots of buds forming. 🤞🌹

I purchased these Geum plants around 2010 or 2011. I divided them into five plants last year (2021) and they continue to bloom and thrive! So I’ve had these for over 10 years so far. I hope this helps! 🙂
