It's not like she got better incomes (worst she's the reason why her daughter has to work part-time instead of spending quality time with friends or even with what should have been a normal family). Some SJW gonna hate me, but I did study and get a degree in psychology, and single-parenting (whether it was fate or choice) is a very bad case for any child. It would not have been for that "kind" man she would have ended very "bad". Hence the alternative end is way fairer and progressive as it is fatherhood getting at long last the place it deserves. Motherhood is not something all women have but something they have to acquire. And clearly, that woman has not what it made to be one. You can hate someone for being mean to you, but making your child pay for your anger... is one step too far. But I guess the author wasn't "realistic" and just "optimistic".

The pure definition of "the line of work does not define the person". Either that, or he wanted to return to some decent ways and couldnt leave the bad business at the time. As sad as the reality is that there are kids that don't get raised well, or even at all, by their parents, they'll see the simplest acts of kindness that random strangers give and remember them forever. Personally, I prefer the alternate ending to this manga. Some people stay rotten to the core, and others, still got that glimmer of light.
