I think Ends makes it clear that it was about his status as the Boogeyman instead of a literal power that keeps him alive. It was Dr Loomis who spread the rumour he was pure evil as a child and the whole town bought it as part of the urban legend. Over the 3 movies of the recent reboot, Laurie comes to terms with that at the end and demystifies the status completely, though it doesn't mean it's contained and can easily spread. Similar track record Corey. The more he embraced this idea and the fear surrounding his accident in the beginning, the more "powerful" he became. Basicall,y anybody can embody the status of Michael Myers so as long as people fear what he initially represented. And in that sense... He truly is invincible.
