World's Most Dangerous Roads: Deadliest Journeys in Argentina 2016
Deadliest Roads - Senegal: • Deadliest Roads | Sene...
From the borders of the Andes Mountains to the jungle in south Buenos Aires, “It’s make… or break” in this new Dicing with Death, where we train on the roads of extreme Argentina. From lorry drivers in high altitude, approaching summits and braving precipices, to countryside doctors forced to walk for hours, covering more than 5000 metres, to visit patients, to death-deceiving Gauchos competing in corral arena rodeos, they all show a quiet courage and an impenetrable resourcefulness. We will never forget Pablo the farmer, who crosses the rainy-season lagoons on his Mad Max lorry, half bus half tractor, just to deliver milk to his farm.

“The path and the sky are almost one. We know when we leave but only God knows if we’ll come back.” A town at the ends of the earth, it seems. 3800 meters above sea level. The Andes San Antonio de los Cobres in Northwest Argentina Our high altitude delivery trio have been traveling the road between San Antonio and Payogasta for 15 years now. The three are inseparable: Manuel, Lenke, and their trusty truck which is 45 years old. We accompany them on their journey which, it must be acknowledged, is, indeed, a dangerous and potentially deadly one. Along the way, we see the Argentinien version of cowboys and rodeos. They take their competitions very seriously. A winning gaucho about his win: There’s no prize money or even a trophy. It’s knowing you’re known for your skill and your courage. 9 Facts if you want to know more about this soulful country Argentina: 1. Argentina has had a tumultuous history. There are several sources I can recommend - Wikipedia is always a first look for me. Too much to list here obviously. 2. We know that football legend Diego Maradona who passed away in December 2020 received godlike adoration not only in Argentina. Was he the best? 3. Madonna played Eva Perón in Alan Parker’s movie musical. That there was a musical about Evita, a disputed political figure in recent Argentine history. Very colorful, very controversial. 4. Argentina is the largest Spanish-speaking nation by area. 5. Yes, the Tango originated in Argentina. Tango is a partner dance, and social dance that originated in the 1880s along the Río de la Plata, the natural border between Argentina and Uruguay. It was born in the impoverished port areas of these countries, in neighborhoods which had predominantly African descendants. The tango was frequently practiced in the brothels and bars of ports, where business owners employed bands to entertain their patrons with music. 6. The tango spread to the rest of the world as we know and it is a beloved dance. And the music is divine. And couples really do dance the tango in the streets and squares of Buenos Aires. 7. World renown conductor Daniel Barenboim is from Argentina. 8. Buenos Aires is one of the great theatre capitals of the world, with a scene of international caliber centered on Corrientes Avenue, "the street that never sleeps", sometimes referred to as an intellectual Broadway in Buenos Aires. Teatro Colón is a global landmark for opera and classical performances; its acoustics are considered among the world's top five. 9. Our featured town - San Antonio de los Cobres - is also a stop along the Tren a las Nubes (Train of the Clouds) on the Salta-Antofagasta rail line. Train of the clouds sounds like something we should do a documentary on. To be continued. Enjoy! Available worldwide

Argentinians have great mentality. "If it's still running why to buy new one." I spent in Argentina three and half years and I 've seen cars, tvs, refrigerators, old hand tools in day to day using. Even people with money don't get rid of old stuff if it is good. I like it.
@XB10001
@XB10001 2 жыл бұрын
I agree, and that mentally stays with you through your life. I'm from Argentina, but living abroad for the past 20 years. One thing to note, though, people do that out of necessity mostly. Many don't have the money to buy new, and labor is quite cheap, so repairs are quite common.

In 78, when I was 18, I worked as a supply man for a deep coal mining company in Tennessee. When my 12 hour shift was over, I would hitch a ride with a loaded coal truck, down the steep winding gravel an dirt roads. At the very steep grades, the driver an myself would open our doors in case the driver missed a gear, sending us wide open downhill with a loaded truck. I had to bail out three times in the two years I worked there. Bloody battered an bruised, I lived to work another day. 4 people lost their lives while I worked there, an I felt blessed to go on to college. God bless these men that do this very dangerous job, day in an day out for years.

The most frequently expressed complaint men have about women is that, women are always trying to change them. When a woman loves man, she feels responsible to assist him growing, try to help him improve the way he does things. She forms the home improvement committee and he becomes her primary focus. No matter how much he resist her help, she persists. Waiting for an opportunity to help him or tell him what to do. She thinks she's nurturing him while he feels he's being controlled, instead he wants her acceptance.

I loved watching this. I live in Salta and work in a lithium mine near San Antonio de los Cobres, and I've traveled those roads countless times. The terrain it's not the most dangerous thing, I think that would be the isolation and the weather. In the event of a mechanical problem or accident you are hundreds of kilometers away from any town, with no radio or phone signal and temperatures at night reaching -20°C even in summer. There was this time a coworker got lost in a salt flat in the middle of a snow blizzard (we call it "viento blanco" here) and got stuck, we found him a few hours later and he could have died for sure.

I have family in Salta and I can't wait to get back there. I live in DC now. It's such an interesting country, people here don't know much about it but if you know, you know and love it over there. If I could find work in my industry I would live there in a heart beat.

Okay, I'm no newbie to these DRds docs. I'm an avid binge watcher, but MAN, this one was super scary on that mountain! And the angles they set the camera to show were just crazy nerve racking! But they jig along and talk and laugh like it's nothing. FULL admiration to these hardworking people, risking life every day to get their goods delivered, their families fed and provide aid an sustenance to people in need. Wonderful!

@@Kat-tr2ig Argentina IS a Third World Country ( y te lo digo como argentino). It's just "3rd World" is a very, very wide definition. There a many ( probably, most) worst places in the world to live than Argentina, for sure: We are still in the "upper side" of the developing world. Yet, the fact so many people has to endure what they have to, on the inner regions of our nation. clearly shows the level of disparity of income, and precariety of infraestructure we have, wich is not akin to a 1st World Nation. It's not a shame to face our reality.

i liked very much this doc, I born in Argentina and lived in different countries, you forget to mention several things on the 9 tops, Argentina has the highest mountain in the whole American continent (north, central and south) its called Aconcagua with 6962 ms over sea level, a Huge part of Patagonia belongs to the country, theres Glaciers, deserts, fossilized forest, at the north west theres the High Andean Range, one of the biggest salt flat in the world , but on the east theres jungles and one of the 7 natural wonders "the Iguazú Falls". Argentina had many contrast, with many different things to see and taste. very happy to seen that you enjoyed the trip,
