Deadly combination of war and drought leaves Ethiopia facing famine

It's already been ravaged by war. Now Ethiopia's Tigray region is on the verge of famine - with at least two million people at risk of starvation and death. Elders and international aid agencies are comparing the crisis to the mid-1980s - when war and drought caused a famine that killed up to a million people in the East African country.

The government in Addis Ababa denies a famine is imminent and says it's working to provide aid. But in Tigray, at least twelve districts are already in the grip of a severe drought.
We heard from residents in Abergele, one of the worst affected areas, where people are struggling to survive.

Either way the results remained absolutely tragic for the innocent people,mainly women,children & babies who were caught in the crossfire of political & militant unrest,in the middle of the most severe drought in recorded history & it’s only going to get worse for the poorest peoples & countries, as global warming will not only cause the sea levels to rise, taking coastal areas off the map around the globe. It’s also going to be an absolute catastrophe for those countries & peoples who are based on the equator. The wealthiest don’t have too worry one bit, they’ve got plenty of million dollar retreats to literally retreat to & live their life’s out in luxury, the financially vulnerable peoples like always, are going to be the ones who suffer the most, even though they have contributed in next to no way to the actual causes of the problem of global warming,compared to the wealthier post industrial countries. Very interesting documentary ty for sharing When I was a child in the 1980's My family prayed every nite for rain to come back to Ethiopia and end the drought My family and church we all saved all our coins up for years when the water jugs were full of coins 3-6 months then we would send it to Africa food relief to help feed and clothe all the families in Ethiopia. I still donate and volunteer because of this childhood experience What's so frustrating is the world has enough to provide at least two meals a day to everyone in the world. Nobody needs to starve and yet people are starving. Our world has too many billionaires

The singer Michael Jackson and so on in early 80 sang 'We are the world' as a reaction to hunger crisis in Ethiopia. In Ethiopia lies the African Union, created in May 1963. It has food security as one of her core objectives. Somalia that is in the corner, is famous for her tragedies of hunger crisis. They know drought can engender hunger where the thousands who were already among the poorest will be affected. But war has been the option in the Tigray's region. A young mum persecuted by the conflict has ended up in refugees camp with her kids and said when she was a child her parents brought her in this refugees camp. Today, it her who brought her kids to the same refugees camp. Thousands in this camp have now been kicked out by the conflict in Sudan. Thousands of refugees are in Uganda, thousands in Chad.
