Deadly Early Summer Walleye Lure

Todays video is all about trolling spinner rigs by hand for early summer walleyes. There are endless lure options for walleyes during the summer period. I like to think of lures as a tool. Do you need a lure to cover water? Do you need a lure to be aggressive? Do you need a lure to be stationary yet incredibly enticing? These are all things to think about when selecting a lure for walleye fishing. When fish are spread out over large weed edges during the early summer periods one of my go to lures is a spinner rig with a leech on it. In this video I talk about how I rig up my spinners and what I look for on my side imaging! Thanks for watching this quick little tips and tricks walleye video.

Hey Tom - I threw out a similar comment in another video but it was a day or two after you originally posted it so I don't know if you saw it or not. If so, I apologize for making a repeat request. I think it would be beneficial if you could include side-imaging screenshots off all the fish you tried to fish for on a given day and whether or not you caught fish. For myself, and I'm sure many others, the most difficult part of using side imaging is identifying what is fish vs what might be rocks, weeds, other strange crap in the water. I think I pass up a lot of fish because I'm not sure that what I'm seeing is fish. Knowing what you're looking for and what you fish would be a huge benefit in helping us with recognizing what we are looking at. I appreciate the screenshots you do include already. Thanks for all the time and hard work you put into creating these videos for us!

If this guy keeps posting walleye videos they’ll be on the endangered species within 6 months... In all seriousness though, my walleye game saw a noticeable improvement this spring and I’m pretty sure it had something to do with all the videos I’ve been watching from this channel. Thanks Tom!

Tom- thanks for all your info! I have a question regarding line. You talk about the uni knot with braid to fluoro. Prior to my last time out last year, I was always running straight braid but you intrigued me to try it. That day I lost 2 lures on hooking a lily pad which I don't think should have broke the fluoro with a little yank. Needless to say I went back to straight braid for the rest of the day.... This weekend I'm heading to a clear lake and would like to try it again. This morning I tested the uni knot and palomar knot to a snap and hooked it on a nail to test the strength. I consistently had the fluoro break at the knot near the snap with not a ton of pulling. I watched multiple videos on how to do both of these knots with fluoro correctly. Im running 6 lbs braid to 8 lbs fluoro. The fluoro is "spider wire" and though its still on the packaged spool its probably 2-3 years old. Any advice? If your line breaks is it usually on the fluoro or braid? What brands do you use? Etc. I hate to go out and buy new fluoro when I have 150 yards left but if you think a different line is better I would be willing....Sorry I don't want this to turn into a "ford vs chevy" debate on line brands. Thanks in advance!

I always tie to a swivel. I find tying a double uni out on the water, especially in the wind, to be a bit of a pain. I use 10# floro and never had it break at the knot.

Great vid here Tom. Also excellent name you have there sir. My challenge in doing this is figuring out how much line to let out. I have tough making/feeling bottom and weed contact without letting out 100+ feet of line in 12-18 feet of water. Any advice?

Tom, great video. One thing you forgot to mention is your trolling speed. How fast are you pulling those spinners? Also, would like to see an example of your trolling path, to get an idea of how you steer the boat thru these weedy areas. I assume you are using a "lazy S" type of pattern, but seeing it on the Humminbird screen would give me the visual clue I'm looking for. Lastly, are those jumbo leeches you're using?

I love your videos, I've been watching a ton for the last few months :) As I am new to "warm water" fishing, I would really appreciate you taking just a little more time going over the specifics of rigging; how you are tying on (everything from lure to knots, leader length and line size etc) trolling speed, lure action etc.. You are VERY knowledgeable, but you go over a lot of stuff SO fast that us "beginners" don't fully understand what you are describing... explaining the "whys" of details, and repetition, keys to teaching ;)
