This is not politically correct!!!! It should be... This song is everything, right York?
@sp4cehouse9 жыл бұрын
there's a certain part near the end of the game where it seems the investigation hits a dead end and York decides to chase an illusion of the first victim through the pouring rain, on foot, in circles, seeing her disappear into the distance several times. Then having this unexplained fever dream lead you to the next step in the investigation. That moment for me encapsulates why I respect this game so much. You the player are constantly questioning whether this game takes place in York's mental fantasy world or in reality (a la Twin Peaks). The mystifying tone that permeates through the entire game gets to the point where it captures that feeling of childlike wonder at discovering the world for the first time.

Same thing happens with me with Twin Peaks 1&2. Nothing else captures lighting in a bottle quite like that for me. This game really managed to immerse me in the stinky shoes of a quirky detective in a lumber town in the middle of rural Washington. And actually made me do the leg work. Made sleep and drink coffee and eat doughnuts and cherry pie, go out for a smoke to pass the time and have lunch with the rest of the sheriff's department. Or just chat in the car on a way to our latest lead. It actually managed to made me care for its people and their struggles. It made me laugh and made me feel despair, disgust, intrigue, joy, and it was all hilariously buggy and low budgets as all hell and I wouldn't change it for anything. It managed to capture that TP1&2 quality for sure. It has a lot of silly design choices but some of the others work so well together as a Dale Cooper simulator that it's astounding. And the story and characters were just different enough from TP where I was wondering at each turn what they were going to reference it again, and how, since it was a long while since the game has done nothing but to show me its own stuff, and it's got a TON of charm and style. It kept me engaged throughout. Glad more people are learning about this game..

It'd just be a more Japanese film adaptation of the first season and middle of season 2 of Twin Peaks. I don't think it would be as good as a movie or something. Twin Peaks has more depth where DP has more quirkiness that holds interest in a game but wouldn't still do so with something like a movie.

While my husband and I played it I kept saying 'holy shit this is Twin Peaks' but he'd never seen it. After we finished the game I showed him some of the parts from the show that made it into the game like the appearance of Laura, the red room, the saxophone in the dreams, the coffee ect and he couldn't believe how much the show inspired the game. I never felt it was a rip off exactly, more a loving homage? I think it had enough originality to distinguish it.
