I wonder if Phil is coming back. A couple days ago someone on Twitter asked him "What's happening with Frettedamericana? Will you be back?" and his reply was "That's up in the air right now".

I'm really digging the episodes with Jared. Such a well-rounded player and informative too... and he lets the guitar talk too without trying to force it into whatever style he's most comfortable with. Give that man a raise!

Jared, I'm a pretty big Phil fan and didn't think anyone could fit here but you're incredible and I enjoy watching these videos as much as when Phil did them. I know you hear it all the time (like Phil did with his belt buckle) but are those buttons a concern? Anyway, keep up the fantastic job man. I think these old semi hollows are some of the best rock tones. My favorite guitarist Alex Lifeson used a few semi hollows and it's some of my favorite driven tones. I have a PRS HBII and a 339 I think because I love the sound. Almost like the guitar is breathing and speaking not just the pickups. I'm rambling, great job JJN and Fretted Americana and team.

Hi Jared. I have been seeing more players lately using their thumb like you do.I was wondering about your thumb lol! Are you hitting the strings with a callous you have built up on your thumb or have you grown your thumb nail at the edge to use of plucking?

Hey Jared: like your style man !! What did the 64' neck profile have in particular, compared to other ones ? \m/
@user-up1us9jf1o7 жыл бұрын
So as a general guide that is borderline useless in the real world where things were made by individuals by hand the mid to later part of the 50's had the bigger necks you would associate with a stereotypical les paul of that time evolving slightly over time hence the "holy grail" '59 profile. Around early-mid 60 the necks lost some depth. 1961-1963ish were the very thin necks you would typically associate with the first few SG's. '64-'65ish the necks got some meat/depth back. This is why some people (such as ed King/mick Taylor) prefer sg's/335 from this time period instead of the very early 60's ones. All of the above had 1 11/16" nut width. Late '65 early '66ish the nut width began to change into 1 9/16"-1 5/8". All that being said it's hard to generalize, they didn't go in the factory on New Year's Day and throw away parts and have dealers send guitars back. As an interesting side note I did have a chance to play a '53 les paul that had a neck that was not a "baseball" bat with a slight V most would associate with fenders. Other than that I have no experience with electric Gibson necks before 1956.
@frantisca7 жыл бұрын
Thank you "T", whoever you are, for this detailed response :) I am not at ease with slim tapers, nor with baseball bats. I favor a reasonable nut width and a rounded back profile neck. I play a few guitars that have these characteristics, looks like this 335 has it all ! Cheers \m/
@user-up1us9jf1o7 жыл бұрын
Anytime man. I'm just a fanboy/player like everyone else. Outside old Gibsons I don't know much in the vintage world. If your looking to pick up something like that an sg or 345 that's been refinished or had a pickup rewound isn't outrageously expensive as far as the vintage world is concerned. The only reason I know about the '64 specifically is because my pops has a 335/sg/firebird 3 all from that year. He is convinced the same guy made the necks on the ones he has. He noticed in the early 70's that the new guitars weren't the same as the ones even from as little as 5-10 years before. I guess once the Beatles and the Stones went on Ed Sullivan demand skyrocketed and corporate America got involved and did their best to make a dollar and ruin a craft. He is still in touch with the drummer in his old high school band. They said the day he bought the sg they all told him he was an idiot because he could have gotten a new one for $50 less.
@frantisca7 жыл бұрын
"the day he bought the sg they all told him he was an idiot because he could have gotten a new one for $50 less." ha ha ! I guess it's worth 3x as much now :-)) I feel a guitar has to be "played in" before it can give its full potential. I always favored pre-owned ones. One has to be selective, but if you pick the right one... \m/
@user-up1us9jf1o7 жыл бұрын
Honestly I don't think the value matters. Those are his only guitars these days and he plays all 3 regularly. I see them staying in the family for quite some time.
