Russia has been killing the civilians of Ukraine by the tens of thousands, it's understandable why they would feel less sympathy for the civilians on the other side. It's not really a reasonable response, but an emotional one. Alas, to insinuate that this is proof for the strike being intentional is a blatant fallacy.

An indicator that the cluster rocket was flying to the beach is that there was an exit of clusters. Charges of this type are designed so that they do not release clusters when damaged. All technologies are not perfect, the rocket may be damaged and not fly far from the launcher. In this case, the release of clusters will kill the soldiers of the army that launched the rocket. Some reason for the operation of a cluster missile over the beach may be electronic warfare. The missile could have been "deceived" that it was already over the target. But what kind of coincidence should it be that the rocket was deceived over the beach? The purpose is the use of an expensive missile over the Crimean beach. One of the declared goals of the West was to create unrest against Putin in Russia. Attacks on military installations do not have much public resonance. Military facilities are closed, and what is happening there is not obvious to the population. The impact on the beach will be noticed. It's pretty dumb. And the intimidation strategy has the opposite effect. But the goal here is not to achieve a quick effect. The goal is to gradually accustom society to the fact that bombing Russian cities and civilians is a fairly common thing. The goal is dehumanization and further escalation. About war crimes, attacks on power plants, and the Kerch Bridge. Long before the start of the SVO, the Ukrainian authorities blocked the flow of fresh water to Crimea. How would you characterize this action? About the provocation with the International Court of Justice. There are many internationally accepted diplomatic norms. Including the conditions for the outbreak of war. One of these conditions is the capture of the ruler of another state, or important persons of that state. I do not know how, the International Court of Justice has placed itself above international norms. But a country that tried to arrest Putin would automatically find itself at war with Russia. By the way, even if it were a NATO country, the collective security treaty would not enter into force. Since this treaty comes into force if a NATO member is subjected to aggression, and not if he himself is the aggressor. The United States often threatens exactly what it does not intend to do. I am more than sure that the United States would have sent much more aid to Ukraine if their interests had allowed such sacrifices. But the further the conflict develops, the less the US is in the mood to invest in it. The promised rapid defeat of Russia has not come, further investment in the bankrupt project may lead to losses for the United States itself.

If the warhead is damaged, say by an intercept from AD, it's highly likely the bomblets will be "dispensed". The bomblets will arm themselves after reaching a high enough spin and work as intended. M74 bomblets are pretty low tech (mechanical fusing) the bomblets do not "care" if they are dispensed by accident as long as they reach correct rpm. "designed not to release" unintentionally does not mean it can't release bomblets accidentally if intercepted. Its actually the most likely outcome of an interception. So dont base your conclusions on the fact they were released. I have a little bit of knowledge on munitions and not just speaking out of my ass.

I have always been very anti-communist, anti-soviet, anti-fascist. My research gave me the opinion that Ukraine has always been a failed artificial state. Russia has a moral right to defend and protect the people of Russian heritage within the borders of Ukraine. I could go on and on but I think anyone who has done the research likely has the same conclusions I have made. This conflict is largely a civil war within Ukraine, with regions of Russian heritage freeing themselves from oppression from regions of central european heritage.

Cluster munitions are anti-personel and so it depends when military personal is more active and clustered. Which can be during the day, for example with training facilities. Both Russian and Ukrain have never signed the CCM (Convention on Cluster Munitions) being producers of such weapons. Both know the risks of using them with civilians in range. One example at the other side was in Odessa on April 29 at 6:30 pm near a beach as well. If this is terrorism, we have two terrorist nation duking it out, it seems.

The frontlines were complaining about having just 6 shells per day but the Azovites squirreled away enough shells for such high value targets as Donezk City's market places, Kindergardens and highstreets. And sorry, your rhetoric about them not deliberately attacking civilian targets is preposterous, go and ask people in the Donbass for the last 9 years. And yes, the targeting and programming was done by US personal as explained perfectly by Scott Rittter. Very flawed logic chain for a military man with so many 'contacts'. This would be my line of questioning: 1. What would be the 'legitimate' target of CLUSTER munitions (not 'a missile') - in that area, that would warrant the use of such an expensive weapon as you say. 2. Can cluster munitions create that 'area of spread' - absolutely 100% without question. There is zero credibility to speculate that this is unlikely. They can be programmed to eject at any altitude, and the comparison used in this video was very similar in area, ironically. 3. Can cluster munitions disperse perfectly and detonate like this - if the rocket was intercepted / destroyed mid flight?? I doubt it, but maybe.. 4. Is there any evidence of a mid air explosion / interception of the munition by Russia - yet to be seen. 5. Could this attack have come from a rogue element in Ukraine?? Also judging by the detonation pattern in the water and beach id say its very likely the munition was at the very least, in the final / terminal phase of descent or correct altitude for bomblet deployment, otherwise you would see a FAR wider dispersal of bomblets.

Watching the video, it looks like civilians weren't targeted, but that it may have still been a terror attack. The strike was out in the water but a couple stray subs hit the beach. It would be pretty unheard of for one to miss that badly on its own. So, either they did this to terrorize civilians with a fireworks show, or what I suspect is it was spoofed off target. Russia isnt actually jamming these GPS weapons, they're spoofing them. Jamming knocks out the GPS link, but they still have high accuracy inertial guidance. Spoofing deceives them into thinking they're in a different location and the GPS corrects the inertial unit. Jamming only makes them a little less precise, spoofing is what makes them miss. Of course theres some venning of the possibilities, like that the beach was targeted but was jammed; thats the level of error youd expect to see from midcourse jamming. Either way, the first thing that happened after the US lifted target restrictions, was Ukraine clusterbombed civilians on a beach. If I give someone a gun for self-defense and they shoot a bunch of bystanders, thats still on me.

The Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM) is an international treaty that prohibits all use, transfer, production, and stockpiling of cluster munitions, a type of explosive weapon which scatters submunitions ("bomblets") over an area. Additionally, the convention establishes a framework to support victim assistance, clearance of contaminated sites, risk reduction education, and stockpile destruction

Firing from Odessa to the military base wit the beach being 5 km south seems strange. Even with a potentially partial intercept. The big question is. How many times does Ukraine carry out attack during the middle of the day? Is it standard practice? Is it rare? Or was this the first time?

there's been a variously few times when ukraine used munitions during the middle of the day on random locations, even though the attack where the munitions landed is sort of obviously intended due to the ATACM's being a laser guided system, it's a massive waste on using it on a random beach other than the airfield a single or double km away

The ICC placed no arrest warrant for Ukrainian leaders or officers, and none for Hamas untill they could place one for the Israel goverment. And some of the ICC (European, the UK amongst them) member countries are known hosts for Hamas leaders. They placed no arrests against those. Willy, prior to the ICC arrest warrant for Netanyahu & co, it was already obvious what the ICC's purpose or value is. No major power is going to listen to them when they are so clearly politically driven, and its such a clear political ''flavor'' at that. In my view the US reaction is nothing more then doublespeak, an attempt to paint themselves (Biden's administration) as not being as anti-Israel or anti-Netanyahu's kabinet as they in actuality are.

What really tells the story, is how fast the US distanced themselves and threw Ukraine on the tracks. That said... Russia has shot down a few of these missiles and several were shot down and or malfunctioned in Iraq (both times). This would be the first recorded incident of an intercept or malfunction resulting in deployment of the submunitions. They are fail-safe. Thats a chronically overused term that has lost meaning to most people. It means that a failure of proper function, renders them safe. *If* the racks were hit and dispersed the submunitions, they would not detonate. This missile definitely deployed the payload. Its entirely possible it was jammed off target, as weve seen a few times now, but the intended target would still have been pretty close to the impact area. Whats most notable though, is no one has denied it happened, only that according to the US 'Ukraine chooses the targets 🤷🏽‍♀️' and according to Ukraine 'civilian occupiers'. Rather it seems everyone is tacitly admitting civilians were targeted. Which seems pretty unthinkable, because some rando missile unit doing that would be totally believable, but these are their best most reliable crews. So, if it was intentional, the order came from far up the chain. Either way, our fault, their fault, nobody's fault, the fact is that after being given permission for unrestricted use, the first thing they did was clusterbomb families on a beach. That *has* to have some accountability.

Western ukraine thinks the 1990s borders are official but the eastern side of Ukraine has chosen to join back with Russia. Western Ukrainian's probably need to accept that the New South Western Russian regions are the new reality and accept those parts are Russian again. The ethnic Russian people that were living in Ukraine could move to those new regions and problem is solved. Just Ukraine will now be a bit smaller but will still exist.

The vast majority of the inhabitants of Crimea identify with Russia, just like the inhabitants of Donetsk or Mariupol. For the Ukrainian Army, they are hostile people and those from Western Ukraine therefore have no scruples in shooting civilian objects. This has been happening in Donetsk since 2014. You yourself were warned in Kharkov about the unfriendly attitude of the inhabitants. And as for not taking into account the costs of missiles? Well, Ukrainians don't pay for them...

Hey Legend, thanks once more for the update. While I'm not very invested in Trump as the next US president(ancient duplicitous mummy vs used car salesman, what a choice!), his base plan for starting peace talks sounds the most reasonable so far. After all the blood spilled for that land, any demand for removal of troops before talks start is a non starter, unless one side is in complete collapse. If any side gained so much land as a result of exploiting any talks breakdown, it would be hell for the other party. According to Preston, who is more on the pro Ukrainian(or counter Russian) side of things but tries to be as honest as he can in his reporting, the munition was probably targeting an airbase only 5km north of the beach where the incident took place and veered off, then exploded or burst above the area, resulting in the peculiar dispersion patterns of the bomblets. About the ICC, I have no idea what they think they are doing, other than pouring oil to fire. Judging international criminals and terrorists is all fine and good, but this is an ongoing war between states; unless the ICC has an arresting army, they are simply out of their league. In the event of a peace treaty, I imagine full amnesty for both sides will be part of it, especially if Russia begins economical interactions with the West again. However, it remains a fact that the ICC has taken a big hit in its validity as an institution with its attempts to procedure people way beyond it's capability to do so.

You know, about 3 times lower amount than the civilian casualties in the war in Gaza which is both raging for less than a year and the total civilian population is orders of magnitude lower than in Ukraine. In fact Putin is commonly criticized in Russia for acting with "silk gloves" in Ukraine, and call for the complete annihilation of everything that stands opposite of them.

@@willyOAM Thank you, however I'm not convinced. I'll continue to research the topic. Heres why I'm still skeptical... The article says "to the front lines". That means the bridge might be supplying the rear as opposed to the front. You know how people can parse words to mislead others. The article also says "An analysis of satellite imagery by Molfar, shared with The Independent, shows that over a three-month period this year, only one military freight train carrying around 55 fuel cars crossed the bridge." So the conclusion is based on a three month period and during that time a military train did use the bridge. I admit, they said it was just one, during the three months. Why just the three months though? I also admit that according to the article Vasyl Maliuk indicates that the Russian military hadn't been using the bridge, at the time of his quoted statement. Maybe it was true and maybe it still is. As you said, maybe they'll go back to using the bridge. Time will tell. In the meantime I'll see what I can find on the issue and see what makes sense to me.
