when I was young, renting games was new. my dad and I rented this because it looked cool. we were surprised just how hard and bad it was. it became a joke in our house. we referred to horrible shit at the time as deadly towers bad.

Absolutely the most underrated nes game. Imo. I had this game in 1989 and I didnt get anywhere in this game. Not even close. Made to the top of a few towers but I had no idea what my goal was. The instructions were vague and Nintendo power magazine never did any type of exclusive or anything for this game. No cheats or tricks of the trade.

Yeah I think this game is nearly unsolvable without some kind of guide or prior knowledge. Once you know what you're doing, though, it's way better than people give it credit for.

Thank you for this. You don't realize how many hundreds of hours of gameplay you probably saved us all the old retro gamers who remember this game & wanted to beat it, but failed no matter how hard we tried through the masochism. We can now die in peace. BTW: there were so rather close calls there.

Took us forever to figure this one out back in the day. Sadly, it was the only corrupted ROM I got for my nes classic. Edit: finally found an emulator that worked! Messed around with this one for hours lol. Having save points makes it a ton of fun!

I remember this game. I beat it a few times as a kid. I recall laughing as hard then as I do now at those boss names! Death Bear, Great Wings, Beat Plant, etc. LOL Well done as usual Feasel

Has anyone ever done an all rooms run of this?

I've never seen one. Someone might have done an all-items run though. Maybe DragondarchSDA. There are actually rooms in the labyrinths that are not reachable by doors. The only way to reach these rooms is to teleport into them randomly using the random-teleport item. You'd have to buy a bunch of those items and hope you eventually landed in each of those isolated rooms.

The most difficult part of this game is...hearing this atrociously bad game music. Whoever composed this music should have been fired, along with their supervisor, for torturing every NES player who regrettably bough this garbage fire of a game. When I was a kid, and played this, I quit after trying to play this game two or three times and not being able to figure out what the fuck to do and wandering around the same rooms for hours. The only cool part about this game was the fire that gave you all of your life back...but was it a genius game design that had never been done? The rest of this game you felt like Frodo in the Lord of The Rings, where he is exhausted and swatting imaginary flies in his face. After watching this speed run, now the game seems...comically easy? But, now you have the internet and grinding concepts, and all the stuff to help you. I mean, how the fuck is a 10 year old supposed to find all those secret rooms in the towers without some game guide? Truly an incredibly poor design. I don't think this games ranks as high as E.T. for Atari as the worst games ever made, but it certainly has to be in the top 50 worst games of all time. Cheers to the speed runner for actually beating this game. Your ears must be permanently damaged as a result, but at least you made it!
