Ambush vipers have some of the most beautifully patterened and coloured scales. Natures beautiful tell tale sign of danger and at the same a way to disappear from the gazing eyes of potential enemies and potential dinner alike. As a little boy I always wanted to see this snake moving on the forest floor and not just look at it's stills in a book or magazine, as a man I can say that little boy never left after seeing this snake. You and staff have created a herpetologist's feast for the eyes with these videos. Good job!

Pretty yet not as vibrant and rewarding when in a pseudo habitat setting no matter how natural you think you have made them feel.... There is a certain instinct animals including ourselves have that kicks in when in a naturally exposed free ranged and wild world. Their habitat is what instinctively had them become the amazing animals they are as with any living organism niching to survive. Humans can morphologically alter characteristics but nothing compares to evolution.

@Jack Niehopper fossils and genetics don't lie or show bias... If you have the time and patience to caretake captive wildlife then you madam/sir are exercising scientific work that leads to the knowledge of these great organisms that have existed well beyond our more immediate ancestry.

This is Bitis rhinoc. not a gabino. There is a Gaboon viper, very similar species minus some of the yellow and purple, and just a bit of different design on the back, doesent have the "butterfly" shape but the rectangles. There are hybrids done in the captivity between Gaboon and Rhino viper, and they are called "Gabino" as you called it. But this aint a natural species, its a hybridn done in captivity, same as ligers, mules, etc
@LivingZoology4 жыл бұрын
@@igorsvacic217 @KayDee was really speaking about gabino because it is shown at the end of this video. And gabinos also occur naturally, we never saw one in captivity, but one in rainforest of Africa! :) B. gabonica and B. nasicornis are evolutionary close enough to produce hybrids and they live in sympatry in many places.
@igorsvacic2174 жыл бұрын
@@LivingZoology Yep, I answered before I saw the end of the video and the part where gabino is shown. I know they occur naturally also, I cant believe you managed to stumble upon one considering how rare those hybrids are. And on top of that I can see it "took" much more from rhino side of family :) which is even more beautyfull since it has so much of that vibrant yellow. All sspecimens I saw wer4e NOT EVEN CLOSE in beauty to this specimen. There are quite a few on KZbin videos, but it seems that somehow Gaboon genes are more dominant and it shows more in those hybrids. Altrough it would be interesting to know which parent was which species, and if that plays a role, if Gaboon was father or mother and vice versa
@LivingZoology4 жыл бұрын
@@igorsvacic217 You are right, we incredible lucky, we could not believe it. And also as you say, this individual inherited a lot from rhino viper. It would be super interesting to know if and how it differs when male is Gaboon and opposite!
