See this is what is annoying about the culture of house music right now.. Everyone talks down on progressive house and techno because all the mainstream build up & drop songs are what people expect. Ugh, I fucking hate "EDM Culture" nowadays. Everyone wants the same cookie cutter slop. It was fine when people were starting out doing it but when everybody makes not only the same structure but the same sounds, the same buildups, the same everything (but does it amateurily) it just blends into a mix of mediocrity. There are exceptions to that rule (Kygo is great) but uggghhhhhh. You're either getting hours of beats from someone who doesn't know that there are more creative ways to increase tension in songs; or you get the same one note, empty percussion tracks that are boring af to listen to, by someone who doesn't understand how to balance volume levels. No one appreciates a good melody and sound design these days.

I think there are generally two groups of Deadmau5 fans. There are the long time followers from way back when he was primarily a progressive house producer and there are the new fans that jumped on the electro-house bandwagon and its those who are hating on this.
