what does "after I tack it out" mean at 1:17? Do you cook it till it's not tacky and stop there?
@BransonCerakote7 жыл бұрын
Yes. You put it in the oven at 180 for around 8 minutes. If you hard bake cerakote, other layers won't stick. You want it to get to the point where it's no longer sticky/tacky.

@@BransonCerakote Hey man, great video. I see it's a while since you posted, but I'll try anyway: I have problems with getting to the right point where its tack free, and I can put on stencils, without the stencils tearing off the first layer.. I have 180f, and more than 10 mins. Any advice appreciated.
@BransonCerakote4 жыл бұрын
@@SalamanderTac If your base coat is peeling off, it could be a few things. The normal culprit is the surface not being sandblasted correctly. Another possible cause is it being too thin. Another thought, are you air curing before putting it in the oven?
@SalamanderTac4 жыл бұрын
@@BransonCerakote Hi man, thanks for answering. Ordering stencils from your shop! I do have a pretty good blasted surface with aluminum oxide. I do think the layer may be a bit thin, yeah.. To be honest I think I may have skipped air curing befor putting it in the oven.. What do you recommend?
@BransonCerakote4 жыл бұрын
@@SalamanderTac Spray, then hang it on a rack for 8-10 minutes to air cure. That allows the solvent to evaporate and the coating to level into the etching. Pop it into the oven at 180 until tack free, but take it out without going more than a couple of minutes past that point. Let it cool, repeat until done. Hard bake.

Went online to find the Deadpool stencil and the only one I could find was the magazine one. Are they the same? Just put it on the pistol vs the mag?

Is there a reason you don't use airbrushes for smaller details and stencils ? It would seem that you would get better control and cleaner details.

Personal preference. I can adjust the LPH80 to do everything I can do with an airbrush.

I have a customer who wants me to do a 4 color logo on a pistol slide for his fiancée for Christmas. Do you have any suggestions or tips for doing that many colors? It will be a small stencil and I'm worried about taking pieces of the stencil off and putting them back on again but I'm going to give it a shot. Great video and thanks for all your advice.
@BransonCerakote6 жыл бұрын
If that doesn't work, just cut small pieces of high heat tape and mask off what you don't need.

do you know if cerakote can be applied to leather. I had somebody ask about a leather rifle sling. which made me wonder about a hard leather holster. do you know if either these can be done, have you ever done it before? thank you so much for all your videos. Also I wouldn't mind seeing a little bit more of how you apply your stencils. even if it's in a separate video.

I've never done leather, but I have done nylon slings at low heat. I can do that. I have a project I'm going to try to do in a couple of weeks, my ACR with laser and ACOG, a high cut Kevlar helmet, a Tac Vest, a Pelican case, and a knife. I'm going to do them all with a combination of Elite, C, and H, with a new stencil pattern we call Table Rock Camouflage (after the lake nearby). It will honestly be about 6-7 parts. I'm going to do everything from tear down to reassembly. Should be a cool project.
@jsjc4587 жыл бұрын
According to NIC the Elite series cannot be used in a pattern over or under H series or the C series coatings. The Elite series has more lubricity and was designed to be a one color coat for items that require tighter tolerances. When they sent me my sample pack of the Elite series from Shot Show I contacted them and asked and this is what they told me.
@BransonCerakote7 жыл бұрын
That's interesting. I do a lot of R&D. I'll test it out on a sample sheet before I do the project. I wasn't planning on recording the test, but now I think I will. If the H won't cure over the elite, I'll just use H and C for the project. It will be interesting to find out.
@davidlake48107 жыл бұрын
jsjc458 so can the Elite Series cerakote be applied on top of itself, like the H series can for stenciling purposes
@jsjc4587 жыл бұрын
David Lake When I talked to NIC they said no it is a one coat design and cannot be used with a pattern at all. They said you can do a slide in one color and the frame in another color but cannot use multiple colors on one piece. I have never tried and am very interested in John's testing but again I have concerns about long term wear if the Elite Series was used with H series in a pattern.

I tried the 157 matte clear like you recommend. It went on really glossy, does the sheen change as it dries?
@BransonCerakote6 жыл бұрын
Nope. You have to mix the matte goo into the rest of the clear. The milky crap at the bottom of the bottle. However, you don't want to shake it because then you end up with bubbles in your clear once it dries. The best way to mix it is to gently roll it back and forth on a flat surface for about 5 minutes. It should come out of the bottle with a milky look.

that sounds like an exciting series. I look forward to it. so do you think it would be safe to do a leather sling or holster. Do you have any tips or suggestions...
@BransonCerakote7 жыл бұрын
No clue. If you call NIC, they may be able to give you some direction. I've just never tried it. If I had to make a guess, I'd say it wouldn't work. The surface would have to be roughed up in the sandblaster, and I'd imagine it would then give it a coarse texture. My best advice would be to buy a cheap belt from Walmart, and give it a try. Let me know if it works.
