Personally, I'm inclined towards the theory that the other two voices are the result of his constant and virulent cancers only kept at bay due to his regenerative factor. In other words: I think he's got two huge cancerous growths in his heads, cancerous brain tissues forming their own personas. Which can communicate with each other. Which means that the voices would be silenced if the tumors were removed. Of course, he'd probably then cuddle the things tearfully while sobbing, "don't worry, guys! We'll get you back inside me where you belong!"

Hey there, man--great video! Jordan D. White here, editor of the Deadpool comics for the last 5 years or so. Sorry our Madcap retcon played a little heck with the Freud of it all. Behind the scenes-wise, since the voices had been a Daniel Way creation rather than an original part of Deadpool, when Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn took over the writing duties with the Marvel Now! Deadpool series, I let them decide if they wanted to continue using the voices or not. Since they chose NOT to, when it came time to do an annual I suggested to Ben Acker & Ben Blacker that we tell the tale of where they came from and where they went. My pitch for them had been that all narrative captions in all comic books are actually symbiotic psychic creatures, and that having more than one would be deadly for a normal character, but Deadpool had been surviving it with his healing factor. Ben and Ben came back with the Madcap pitch instead, and I am glad they did. If you haven't seen, Madcap comes back in a big way in Gerry Duggan's newest Deadpool relaunch, as he's one of the obscure Marvel characters Deadpool hires to be in his new Mercenary group. Some fun stuff happens with him that relates back to their time together. Anyway, keep up the great work! This was a fun video.

+NerdSync Scott is obviously the Id, because of how in the crew he's kinda the leader and pretty much the initiator of things like in the podcast. And usually the guy who said, yeah since when are we ever coordinated lets just go with that. Chris would be the Super Ego due to his position as the oldest and seemingly holds things together as a compromiser because his life experience usually helps him see from different perspective Bryce and Scott have gone through and knows whats right and wrong. Bryce would in the end be the Ego, the neutral party with being the youngest and would have the sense of understanding what is acceptable being a moderator with his plans to be a counselor. And the fact that he seems to be the most extrovert with having a job that interacts with ppl on a regular basis giving him knowledge of whats acceptable in society than Chris in his cubicle and Scott staying in his house editing videos. Also imo I think u should've asked Bryce to do the Yellow Box voices because he has a lighter voice and more youthful energy, while Chris has a lower tone for the boring white voices. I'm not a big fan of the other voices.

It's hard enough to translate one Deadpool into a live action role, imagine having to write, develop, cast and preform 3 Deadpools all contained within the same single actors physicality and interpretation of the character. It would've been fun and pretty cool to hear the voices and stuff, but maybe it's better left so the audience can't hear what deadpools thinking. Story could get overcrowded very easily with three main characters who are completely inseparable.

+NerdSync As a note Scott, there is a follow-up comic where Madcap starts to hunt down & murder Deadpool's friends and family after being haunted by Deadpool's memories - in this comic Deadpool uses his own daughter as bait to catch Madcap giving further credence to the fact that Deadpool may have lost his conscience when Macap was removed from his personality. Secondly, I was recently listening to a BBC Podcast on the nature or reality which delved into the human perception of reality & it indeed stated that each person have their own living model of reality & that our sight basically only provides enough information to check against the model our minds have already constructed... meaning that what we actually see is already heavily influenced by our prior experiences. An example of how our brains edit our experiences is in how we perceive people's lips *sync*ing to their mouths... how do we see this when light is so much faster than sound??? Our brain plays pop-DJ and mixes the sound and vision together live!! I think that means we must be running i7 hardware at least! Bringing up perception & how it's made by our past experiences, maybe you could look up the Einstein mask experiment which shows how our brains take shortcuts in how we perceive depth? It's a little creepy & a lot astonishing!

i posted this comment on Mike's video but wanted to make sure you'd see it too: I always thought Deadpool knew he was a comic book character because of his constantly shifting/healing brain structure. It's addressed in the comics that the reason Deadpool is unaffected by telepaths is that his brain is basically goo because it's constantly healing and changing its structure. This has also been used to explain some of his other mental issues and memory problems. This would mean that, like a baby, his brain is constantly forming and reforming it's neural connections, reforming how his brain (and therefore how he) perceives the world around him. Put it this way, when a baby is making all these neural connections for the first time, it couldn't possibly comprehend the notion that everything around it is the construction of a comic book/the writers, so it's brain basically becomes hard-wired to think of the world as being real. This is why the vast majority of marvel characters don't know they're in a comic book - and it's why wade wilson (prior to being deadpool) presumably didn't know he was a comic character. But once his bizarre version of wolverine's healing factor kicked in and his brain reformed all those neural pathways, deadpool (now an adult) could fully comprehend the truth of his world - that it is a comic book. Now he didn't always fully comprehend it after becoming Deadpool, as is evidenced by his very serious and non-meta first appearances, but a revelation like this would take a lot of time to process and come to terms with, and he didn't quite fully embrace it until around the end of Kelly's run. This also explains why (in the DP Kills the Marvel Universe story) Xavier basically becomes a vegetable/brain-dead after Deadpool finally lets him in to read his mind. Xavier is confronted with something that so opposed everything his brain is wired to believe, and his brain broke itself trying to comprehend the truth of their world.

Deadpool's personality is completely unpredictable. That's why the Taskmaster can't copy him or telepaths can't read his mind. I like to think that he goes crazy all the time and then he heals, so the voices could also be representative of different mental illnesses. I think Wade has gone through the complete catalog more than once. For example in a bipolar state, one voice is manic and another depressive. In a paranoid state one voice is afraid and the other confident. In a schizophrenic state one voice is him and the other an imaginary creation, and in the case of multiple personality disorder, well... that's pretty obvious. As he heals he can have moments of lucidity and reflection which are genuine, but soon are mocked by his own new disorder leaving us guessing whether or not that was a true lucid moment or inner sarcasm.
@bsabruzzo8 жыл бұрын
The fact that the white boxes and the yellow boxes switched roles of Id and Super Ego means that each voice could be used as either. And the only reason the yellow boxes (Deadpool's inner thoughts) stayed representing solely one or the other was because there was an opposing view already being voiced via Madcap, who could chose to be either Id or Super Ego based on how much confusion he wanted to cause (really making him neither Id nor Super Ego). Once Madcap was removed, Deadpool's inner voice has to return to what everybody's voice is (conscience and instinct).

Not to spoil the movie, but it doesn't include the boxes, which for the longest time I thought was a staple of the character and disappointed me when I left not seeing that. To see this video and know now that it isn't necessarily the case, makes me less sad that they didn't include it, but more sad because some of my favourite Deadpool moments are with his three-way inner monologues. That said, I think the game, gave the best version of those personalities, mostly because they are all his(supposedly). Maybe they'll be included in the sequel? :)

Ray medamiedo Deadpool is a relatively "complex" character. He's always a mix of humor and very dark drama. The movie is a really good example of this. It's all handled in a dark comedy sort of way. Because with Deadpool (at least the earlier versions), it was always pretty clear that his humor was always there to cover up his broken personal struggles and his tragic past that brought him to his shitty current situation. At least I always sort of felt that way, y'know. Daniel Way decided to focus a lot more on the comedic aspect, just turning it into a straight up comedy book. And the further he got into it, the more over the top it was. It felt a lot more crass and a lot more childish to me. Every time Way had the opportunity to explore the depths and complexity of the character, he wouldn't do it and instead would put dick jokes or something. And then there's the fact he added the 2 inside personalities. Before Deadpool had to bounce off of other characters, now it was all in his head. IDK, that's personal preference a 100%, but the fact he made him more shallow and took away the depth and dark dramatic edge, that's the main reason people really don't like it.
@Dman39818 жыл бұрын
Daniels Way's Deadpool is often referred to as Memepool because he was purely comedic. If you read the older stuff of Joe Kelly or even the new stuff done by Duggan there's a much darker and engaging story on top of the humor. Deadpool is actually quite a complex character but people who don't know too much about him just think he's a joke because most people only know of Daniel Way's deadpool. Now don't get me wrong, his run can be fun at times but personally for me only in small doses.
@aarondiver49378 жыл бұрын
I have always enjoyed Deadpool when he has played the classic sad clown character. He deals with the immense pain he feels through wise cracking, and then that added in with his fourth wall insight, with him knowing that his life is all just some kind of sick pantomime, or his suffering is just for our entertainment, I think makes him unique.

The Madcap reveal is a rare "perfect retcon": the reveal makes sense, it brings back an interesting character who has a reason to still exist, no one has to die (in the present anyway) to pull it off, and it gives new story options for Deadpool. Again...Another excellent video!!! (I feel that I absolutely MUST say something about it, since I have my MA in psychology, obtaining my degree from the Humanistic, Existential, Phenomenological, & Transpersonal program at University of West GA.) Your understanding & application of psychodynamic principles was superb, IMO. It makes perfect sense that, if the 2nd inner voice is indeed Madcap (another complete personality), then it would not be a consistent superego (as was seen later in the comics). Theorizing is fun, though! = Perhaps Madcap became more of Deadpool's voice of reason as something of a conscience was awakened in him by the merger - to make amends for his own past injustices. Lol. Who knows!

this is a really good explanation... my friend often complain why the movie didn't have his inner voices and now I got a solid proof... thanks :)

i really wish they kept the voices in his head. it was hilarious and insightful. without madcap there he'll never quite be the same...

So...no one else wants to call Scott out for being overly harsh on Freud? Not only is neuroscience starting to support Freud's theories, his ideas influenced some of the most powerful elements of modern psychology. For instance, his theories around the unconscious yielded not only the id/ego/superego, but also ideas around the importance of dreaming, the origins of cognitive science, and social theories around implicit biases and prejudices. Freud's models of development led to modern psychodynamic theory and Erickson's modern model of development - as well as every model of human development since then. Not only that, but it led to the environmental theory of psychology (Brofenbrenner), family systems theory, and attachment theory all within development psychology.

It would be really interesting to see both a character’s superid, superego, and ego all act as one single mindset

I really hope the 2nd Deadpool movie has inner thought dialog boxes like the Deadpool video game. I ESPECIALLY want Deadpool's first initial reaction to them to belong the lines of "Well hello their little yellow floating box in the air" or something to that effect.

+richmyster84 Well, they did pay a little homage to his two voices during the second taxi scene when Deadpool found out Dopinder kidnapped his cousin. You didn't get the dialog boxes but you did get the two voices.

I see it more like this in terms of the thought boxes to be Deadpool's want and fear. The white boxes is the hero Deadpool wants to be and has tried to be in the early 1997 issues for Siryn. However, the yellow boxes is the Deadpool that is afraid to get hurt if he fails and always seeks the more brutal response to any situation to avoid any emotional pain that will get to him again. Such as when he was trying to get help from Siryn so he can be a hero hooking in issue 12 1997 and when they hook up at the end of the Issue Siryn was actually Typhoid Mary and that hurt him. The Deadpool that is presented to the world is the way he is on the outside due to his experiences that he has gone through.
