Yes rude Buddha it was a shame and it was too many drugs and by the time he came back, he just did not have it anymore. I'm not proud but I was one of the biggest drug dealers in New Orleans in the 70s and I was shooting speedballs also also. Looking at life + 50, already played 12 years of Catholic religion so no religion no churches but I went in the woods for 4 months with the Bible and weather in terre haute ask God to reveal Himself and through the scriptures and desperate prayer it all added up to Jesus and the Bible said come as you are with no rules. Churches and religion did that and that's what killed Christ. That was 41 years ago and I tried churches but had home Bible studies and helped young men get off of drugs. Being a skeptic I tested the Bible and Jesus and His prophets have never been wrong about anything down to every detail. Please don't just believe me investigate for yourselves buy honestly asking Jesus to make himself real and reading the gospels and his words will help,. You are still free to listen to quality music that's a gift from God as long as the lyrics aren't nasty and foul. So I still listen to my old blues and clean rock and roll sometimes. It's all about eternity and he died so we could have eternal life. Just admit you are a sinner as we all are and he will do the rest little by little like a baby growing. This life is by the breath and Eternity is a very long time. Please give Jesus in the Bible a chance... IT'S EASY TO SWALLOW YOUR PRIDE AND ADMIT YOU NEED A SAVIOR. PLEASE DON'T LET PRIDE GET IN YOUR WAY FOR ETERNITY. GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND YOUR FAMILIES WITH THE TRUTH

He was an absolute beast of a musician. When he went to Muscle Shoals he basically camped out in the parking lot of the studio and worked his way into their business. My ex brother in law knew him and Greg. His parents saw Duane just seconds before he was killed. They waved at him and he waved back before going around a bend in the road. They didn't know he had wrecked until the next day. Everytime my brother in law told that story he would always say what a great guy and how much he missed him.

And, I couldn't be ANY prouder to say that I'm a life-long resident of the great state of GA, the very place he, Gregg and the band have meant SO much!!! 😊

I was there last July. We got there about 8PM and could not find the site, then it started a hot rain, and we found them. It was getting dark and my two boys and I were able to pay respects, then went to Duane's and then Berry's crash sites, then The Big House, but it was closed. We jammed some Midnight Rider then headed east to August.....RIP to them.

When Duane Allman and Dickey Betts collaborated on "One Way Out," they created a work of art that still fills my heart with joy and admiration, and my eyes with tears of sorrow to know that such sublime talent could be torn away in seconds. If there is one song that embodies all that is great about Southern Rock, it is that June, 1971 recording of "One Way Out." Duane and Dickey worked a pure-D, Southern-fried miracle.

Living in New Orleans, I was fortunate to see so many great bands. We had The Warehouse. It was in the warehouse district and one of the big warehouses was turned into a place to hear great music. You could probably find it on the internet because it was well known. Weren't we blessed to have witnessed some of the greatest rock legends in person. Some kids I talk to wish they would have grown up during the time we did. We had a lot of fun. So good talking to you. Stay well and safe too.

Was recruited by the University of Tennessee and took a college visit with a state champion swimmer from my high school.. My classmate told me that the swimmers had tickets for a concert that night and we were invited to join them. This was winter of 1970-71 and the headliner was B.J.Thomas and the backup band was the Allman Brothers. B.J. had a top 40 hit in "Raindrops keep falling on my Head" so I was familiar with him but had never heard of the Allman Brothers. The concert was in the basketball arena and we had first row seats. The Allman Brothers were literally ten feet away without anyone in front of us. They were incredible and I was amazed. After the set I got a elbow in the ribs and told we were walking out on Thomas. B.J. came out and starting singing his hit Raindrops and I got into the song when one swimmer walked past me and then another.until I was the last one sitting. As I got up I made eye contact with him and I could tell he was puzzled that the front row was walking out on him. The expression in his eyes I still remember as much as the amazing performance of Dwayne and the other members of the band.

What a great loss to southern blues rock! I was able to stop by their old home in Macon which is now a museum. After that, I headed over to the cemetery to see where they all were laid to rest after Greg passed, and they really couldn't have picked a more perfect place, which was up on a shaded hill side beneath some old oak trees, overlooking the train tracks down below, listening to those train whistles as they slowly passed by. I was really touched by it all. RIP Guys!

I visited the “Big House” in Macon, Georgia where the band lived when 1st starting out with their wives, girlfriends, roadies, kids. It’s a treasure trove of cool memorabilia and supposedly haunted. Had a “coming to Gregg moment” while asking which cemetery Duane, Berry & Gregg are buried in, had passed one on the way into town. It wasn’t “Rosehill” where I want to visit next time / but when I inquired with a lady who worked there the front door slowly creaked open & no one was there!? She brought “it” to my attention and the strange goings on there. The guy who sells t-shirts said he hears voices and footsteps all the time when he’s there - alone! I’ve experienced many things like this before so it wasn’t frightening at all - just a possible sign. Loved Duane’s fabulous slide playing with his glass Coricidin bottle, my favorite song of theirs is “Little Martha.”

Dreams. One summer day in 1974, I was driving West on I-20. We were in a convoy to Ft. Polk for a field exercise. Just before an exit to Rolling Fork there was a tribute to this excellent musician I'll never forget. Carved into an 18-20 foot, vertical, red clay embankment, were block letters a foot wide, about 8 to 10 inches deep, and ~10 ft tall, which read: REMEMBER DUANE ALLMAN

I can't imagine how much more he would have done. I don't think anyone can come close to his playing a guitar. I remember exactly where I was when I heard of his passing. I was lucky to see him play, was such a humble guy. Still hurts to think about this tragic loss, then Berry Oakley died on a motorcycle almost the same spot and time R.I.P BROTHERS!!!

I remember buying their 1st album when it came out. I was into blues and he was an amazing blues/rock guitarist. I listened to that album every day. They were so effing good and are still relevent in the rock/blues genre today. They had such a unique sound. He and Dickey Betts were amazing together. I was so bummed when I heard he was gone like so many others from that era. It was such an amazing time and I am so glad I was part of it.
