Ran into Greg in Macon, Ga at a convenient store off exit 6. Amazingly, no one else was there except for a couple of Huddle House customers. Greg was filling his Harley and was saying he needed to ride with me as a joke because I bought a 12 pack. I walked over to the pump and shook his hand. I never acknowledged that he was a superstar and after a couple of laughs we went separate ways. Just a humble and kind man that was larger than life who felt like a friend to everyone.

I meet Greg at a Circle K in semi valley back in 1987. He was coming out of the store and had an entire box of slim Jims with him that he was munching down one after the other. I waved and asked if he wanted one of my beers but he just shook his head. I screamed "I'm no angel!" He gave me a thumbs up and road off on a 10 speed bike. Wild times

Southern gent, massive talent. I am ever thankful for recordings and videos to relish over and over. You were quoted as saying " l am a famous guitar player in the band, but l am not the best" referring to Dickie Bett. Dickie Betts, and now Dickie's son. Big love and beautiful music makes my heart keep beating and my lips keep smiling.

Weve lost a lot of the greats in rock the past few years but Greggs death cut me deeply. Its still hard to believe hes gone, along with Tom Petty, Eddie Van Halen, Glen Frey,Tina Turner, Aretha, Prince, so many others. Thank God we have the legacies of their music that will live forever. @@oldpanamacitybeach It was obviously planned. Paul knew to launch into the S&S theme; and Gregg's attitude was like, "there you are!" I know Gregg wasn't especially shy, but with the Allmans it was always about the jam, so I can't see him caring about a little chat. When you're jamming, you hang loose, and Redd Foxx could hang loose, so it was cool. On the other hand, you'd never catch a guest with a cigar nowadays....

My very favorite interview of Gregg Allmans was the most recently on the show, "The Big Interview with Dan Rather". Each season airs different musicians every Tues night on AXS TV (24/7 music channel). Which BTW is a great channel. I think there's been 4 seasons so far with maybe 5 or 6 interviews in each season. He looked great, his thoughts clear, he spoke of the projects he was working on. He had found a new zest for life without the alcohol and drugs, had a women he loved and that loved him, he seemed happy and excited to do new music and then suddenly not long afterward, I hear the news of his passing. Dan interviewed him in Greggs home. I I'm sure he feels grateful to of had the chance to interview him just before he passed. If you haven't seen this interview, its a must see. Only Dan Rather and his true interviewing skill would ever find the right questions to ask people to get them to express thing they would of never thought to share. One thing was for sure, he definitely got rid of that terrible dentistry in his mouth seen on this YT video. Things looked much more natural in interview with Dan; day and night. Such a big loss for all of us music fans.

Pretty much my favorite show on TV now is The Big Interview. Dan Rather is such a master interviewer that he makes me sit and listen to people who I thought I didn't like, but found out I was wrong.

@@harrywinslow3946 Been following Dan Rathers Big Interviews since the beginning. Like you mentioned, there's people you would have set them aside but suddenly with Dan's interviewing skills, he discloses a part of that person you would have never known, and it's usually a very positive part of that person. Amazing! Here's the line up as of April 2020 for this latest run of interviews: April 15: Huey Lewis April 22: Debbie Harry of Blondie April 29: Don Felder formerly of the Eagles May 6: The Band’s Robbie Robertson May 13: Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson May 20: Don McLlean

It's fun to watch Paul's reaction as they start, he's smiling and nodding with the intro, then Gregg starts in the right key, Paul looks at Gregg's hands, then at Sid as Sid corrects and Paul kind of shakes his head at Sid and kind of sighs at the audience - all in the space of 5 seconds. Fabulous correction and performance! Thanks for the upload.

Fun to see Redd Foxx and Allman,...but the thing I take away from every clip I see these days of Letterman's old show is just how damn good Will Lee is a bass player. Next day my dad purchased a Epiphone black Les Paul custom bass with case and 4x10 Randall amp from the local music store. I was 13 and discovered RockNRoll 🎸 I’ve been to Rosehill Cemetery more times than remember & the Big House backyard shows. Love love love Macon, Ga. It’s 2 1/2 hours east of me. Thx for uploading the video. It means something to us old brothers of the road. 🍄
