Thank you for listening!! Porcupine Tree’s my favorite band and it’s great to see other people enjoy and interpret their stuff in their own ways :) I hate to disappoint but this album actually came out in 2005, they did release an album in 2009 though called “The Incident” and it’s my favorite album of theirs, like Deadwing it also reminds me of late 2000s nostalgia. Hopefully someday you’ll have the chance to check it out, and I hope things go well for you friend, you deserve to be happy :)

I'm going to be honest you're the first person I've seen whose favorite PT album is The Incident, for me it has its moments (Time Flies is a nostalgic gem) but from start to finish the 3 albums before it just did way more for me. What do you think of their latest album? Personally besides Harridan (it was an instant hit but it came out first and close to my birthday so I might be biased on that one) it was one that had to grow on me but overall I love it and it gives me hope that more stuff might come out in the future.

Steven Wilson is a genius! I had the honor of watching Porcupine Tree live at the Hollywood Bowl front, center stage when I was about 23 years old… many many years ago 😅

PS: A Mellotron was a keyboard that had tapes inside it and as the keys played different tapes moved... It was basically intended to be an instrument that gave things an orchestral feel. It had all sorts of different tapes that could be fitted, flutes etc... A typical example being Strawberry Fields Forever.. Right from the very beginning of the track. And the Moody Blues and Genesis and Yes used it at various times.... Keep on Rocking man and keep on remembering we all love the music too. And I know, i'm the old git who is enjoying you discovering all this stuff.

Regarding the mellotron, for literally decades when I would hear a Yes album (with Rick Wakeman on that keyboard), I always thought that they recorded/toured with an orchestra and choir 😆. Turns out it was the mellotron…..

In regards to the Mellotron: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mellotron SW has used it pretty regularly during his career, especially on the album "The Raven that Refused to Sing (And Other Stories)".

I didnt remeber you already did "Open Car".. But "Start of something beautiful" was only the live version right? I think this is one of the few cases where I like the album version more, which is very rare for PPT

You were asking about Steven's childhood. He didn't have a bad one at all. It was very supportive and his dad even helped him with his recording as a teenager.. He was an elrctoncs engineer and he made various electronic things for him to use during his recording including a four track recording machine.. Very grounded and supported.

Mellotron I think was first used on STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER by THE BEATLES who opened things up for all those who followed.

First use of mellotron was Beatles with Strawberry Fields Forever. Moody Blues featured it heavily to achieve that ethereal sound as did Yes.

18:55 My admittedly hopeful guess is Opeth and Ne Obliviscaris but while this band and Opeth kind of go hand in hand I know in my heart Ne Obliviscaris is out there.

A melotron is an early synthesizer like Wakeman brought out when he invented stacked keyboards....listen deeper into prog my man.
