Very good candidate. I also the line he had about theres no jury conceived by man that will convict George Hearst, and then When asked if the sheriff wanted to pursue the issue, bullock waved his hand like “cys 1000% correct”. Rhetoric is the art of persuasion.

"Pour my friend a bourbon. And tell him it's from Kentucky." He delivers it with the perfect level of sarcasm and warmth. I used to run clubs and managed a lot of hospitality related businesses. Cy was a beast. He was WAY better than Al in terms of running a great spot. Al just had that "All or nothing" mentality and the name recognition in Deadwood.

Goes to show the fear the "bosses", i.e. the robber barons, instilled back then. Probably an accurate representation of how people felt. Cy was so shaken up just by Hearst's name that after he genuflected, he then calls over an idiot and drug addict to meet the guy. These days the "bosses" are just as bad, but everyone thinks they're our friends and heroes. They don't flat out murder us using Pinkertons, etc. anymore; they just continuously increase how much we have to work to survive and lower our standard of living, while they convince the modern-day hoopleheads that the only avenue we should all have to advance or have a good standard of living is to all start our own businesses. Otherwise you deserve whatever you get and you're a communist for wanting organized labor or to use your own government to defend yourself.

@@Alan_Page Unless that government you speak of is slowly pushing us into WW3 and spending billions of our tax money to do so while lining their pockets with kickbacks and rising stocks from special interest military weapons dealers.

they did an early bonanza first season when the show was about the pre civil war comstock lode and the building of virginia city.ben and the boys are horrified by the new town.people are starving and turning to crime due to the absurd prices for meat.ben is amazed as he has thousands of cattle to be bought cheaply.the problem is the mine owner an unnamed hearst has sent a woolcot type guy to run the town and food can only be bought from him so miners are working for nothing as their wages go on the high priced grub the company provides.ben of course sorts it out.in fact al in deadwood is the most prescient of hearsts motives having been in every strike there was.he knows once hearst takes over buys every claim and has complete control of every aspect from the chinese to the saloons and brothels via cy the town is over.as you see with the cornish miners and as ellwood knows from past experience with the man it will continue but as a slave town with the company owning the store the paper and everything else.company scrip will be paid not real money redeemable at only the places owned by him.happened in virginia city west virginia pennsylvania and of course colarado where it prompted armed insurrection.al is a thief and a murderer but believes in the camp.hearst one of the first robber barons isnt content with the gold he wants total control of their lives.sad thing is in many places thats exactly what happened.rule by the rich enforced by the pinkertons or baldwin feltz agencies.

Besides the fact that Garrett Dillahunt is a really good actor, I liked it as an homage to the old school Westernslike ''Gunsmoke'' or ''Have gun, will travel.'' They used various actors multiple times in multiple roles throughout their runs.

Mr. Wolcott was the same guy who shot Wild Bill. You could tell Deadwood producers were tight on money, casting previous actors of previous characters to play new characters in later seasons.
